Health Insurance is compulsory for everyone staying or living in Germany. Your university will provide you health

insurance at thddfe time of you enrollment. Please remember that you must have a valid health insurance the moment

you enter in Germany. There is no exception to this. So take a temporary student health insurance policy with

you while traveling to Germany and before enrolling at the university.

There are 2 options which you can choose, one is normal travel health insuranceand the second isstudent health

insurance. The only difference between them is your travel health insurance will void once you enroll at the university

but the latter one will continue until it expires. So the student health insurance is good alternative as it may take some

time to get health insurance from your university.

There are many companies like HDFC ERGO, ICICI Lombard, Bajaj Alliance etc providing student health

insurance. They charge you only Rs.***** for one month of insurance policy worth $******. Please keep in mind your

health insurance should be of over or equivalent to at least 30000 Euros and it should cover all the medical charges.

When you will enroll at your university, u will have an option to choose between private german insurance, public

german insurance and insurance provided by our Indian companies like ICICI lombard. The best option is the second

one, Public German Insurance. The indian insurance are very cheap (from Rs 8500 to 12K/year) but they are notreadily acceptable at most of the places. Similar is the case of private german insurance. Public German Insurance are

most readily acceptable everywhere and charges are around 66 to 80 euros per month.

If you wish, u can take the temporary health insurance of say 2 months before going to your visa interview.

1. Take a Temporary Health Insurance with you for now till you reach the destination.

2. The Aulanderbehrde ( Foreign Office) which extends ur 3 months visa to residence permit will not

accept insurance outside Germany. So, take any German Insurance then.

3. Health Insurance is a must in Germany.
