Health and Wellness means a lot of things to different people. To the young it may not mean that much – it can be taken for granted – but as I age I certainly care more about it. About half my life ago I competed in triath-lons. I was always dieting and working out and missed a lot of life.

In the past, we’ve done Health and Wellness special sections on nutrition, exercising and medical issues. But this year our focus is on recreation. People can be healthier just by getting out and about. Recreational activities help people stay active, and can help with peace of mind, which is another aspect of being healthy.

Marysville and Arlington are full of recreational opportunities, such as:

•Boating or fishing on the sound, lakes and rivers.

•Skateboarding or playing golf.•Walking or bicycling on the many

trails, with more on the way.

•Bowling, skating, swimming or racquetball if the weather is bad.

There is so much to do, we can’t list it all in this publication. So we focused on what the cities have to offer. Both cities partner with private businesses

so they can offer more.

The cities are a great place to start because they can introduce you to something new at a fraction of the cost. Then, if you get hooked on a hobby, pastime or exercise,

you can always join another organiza-tion to get into it at a deeper level.

We hope you find something here that you might want to try. Keeping your body and mind healthy through recreation can enhance your lives.

MARYSVILLE – A per-son’s health and wellness often depends on how active they are.

Before some of you stop reading, realize active does not have to mean killing yourself lifting weights in a gym. Nor does it half to mean riding your bike to Darrington every day. It doesn’t even have to mean doing sit-ups at home.

Being active can mean taking a walk around one of the city’s many parks or throwing a ball around with a friend or loved one.

Staying active with any kind of recreational activity can be good for you. And the city of Marysville offers

dozens of activities for chil-dren, youths, teens, young adults, adults and seniors.

Many of their offerings stay the same, whether it’s spring, summer, fall or winter, because they are so popular. But others change depending on the time of year and interest in the classes. Fees are kept affordable so pay for the buildings and teachers.

YOUTHIn the summer, there

are all types of camps for kids, including: volleyball, track, soccer, basketball, baseball, cheerleading, jump rope, Kung Fu, sci-ence, Lego superheroes, robotics, band, dance and golf. Tennis and gymnas-

tics classes also have been available.

Soccer: Children are divided up into age groups: 2-3 1/2; 3 1/2-4; 4-5; 5-6; and 7-10. There is also seven-a-side soccer for kids 7-14.

Kung Fu: Also divided in age groups: 3-4; 4-12; and 13-16. There is also a camp during spring break for 5-13 year olds.

Bowling: For beginners 6-17.

Dancing: Ballet and tap, 3-5 year olds; Mommy and Me 1-3.

Tumbling: Mommy and Me, 1-3. Intermediate 6-8 and 9-12.

Kindermusik: Ages new-
