Narration of a student’s pastexperience about her health
Several years ago, I didn’t feel so well. I was very
stressed for personal problems. I was eating the wrong
kind of food.
I often had headaches. I wasn’t doing any exercise. I used
to have high blood pressure, diabetes and I was
overweight.
One day I decided to put an end to that routine and made
an appointment with my family doctor to have a checkup.
First, he told me I needed to do some clinical tests. When
the doctor had the results he said that I had to make a
radical change to have a healthy life.

Narración de la experiencia de una alumna sobre su salud.
Hace varios años, no me sentía bien. Estaba estresada por
problemas personales. Estaba comiendo el tipo de comida
equivocada. A menudo tenía dolores de cabeza. No estaba
haciendo ningún ejercicio. Solía tener alta presión arterial,
diabetes y sobrepeso.
Un día decidí terminar con aquella rutina y sacar un turno
con el médico de mi familia para hacerme un control.
Primero me dijo que tenía que hacerme análisis. Cuando el
doctor tuvo los resultados me dijo que debía hacer uncambio radical para tener una vida más saludable.

1. Do the exercise you can, but DO IT.
2. Reduce the fat food in your diet.
3. Eat more vegetables like spinach, chard, carrots,
broccoli, cabbage, etc.
4. Eat food which contains vitamins and minerals like
lentils, beans, soya.
5. You should eat all kinds of raw fruit because they
have natural sugar and vitamins.
6. You shouldn’t drink too much caffeine but instead
you should drink two o three litres of water per day.
Then, he gave me ten pieces of advice:

1. Haz el ejercicio que puedas pero HAZLO.
2. Reduce la grasa en tu dieta.
3. Come más vegetales como espinaca, acelga,
zanahoria, brócoli, repollo, etc.
4. Come comida que contenga vitaminas y minerales
como lentejas, chauchas, soja.
5. Debería comer todo tipo de frutas crudas porque
tienen azúcar natural y vitaminas.
6. No debería beber demasiada cafeína, en su lugar,
beba 2 o 3 litros de agua por día.
Luego, me dió 10 consejos:

7. Eat less sugar and salt.
8. Breakfast is the main meal of the day. Include
wholemeal bread with white cheese and cereal with
yoghurt.
9. On the other hand reduce sweets. Eat less cakes,
chocolates and biscuits.
10. You are wrong about the myth that pasta puts you
on weight. Pasta is a good source of energy for the
body.
At the end of the appointment the doctor told me,
“just do it”. And your life shall win on health. And
that was true. Now I feel much better thanks to the
advice of my doctor.Susana

9. Reduzca los dulces. Coma menos tortas, chocolates y
bizcochos.
10. Usted está equivocada sobre el mito que la pasta
engorda. La pasta es una buena fuente de energía
para el cuerpo.
Finalmente el doctor me dijo: “Hazlo” y su vida
ganará en salud. Y fue cierto. Ahora me siento mucho
mejor gracias a los consejos de mi doctor.

Water: facts.
We all know that our bodies need water. About 70% of
our body is water.
We often read that we need to drink at least eight
glasses of water a day (about two litres).
In fact, how much water we need depends an the
weather and on what we’re doing. When we are hot,
or if we do sport or exercise we need to drink more.
Some experts say that, in normal conditions, we only
really need about one litre a day. Also we get water
from food specially fruit and vegetables (an apple is
85% water, an onion is 87%).
We can also get water from other drinks like: fruit
juice, coffee, and tea.

El aguaTodos nosotros sabemos que nuestros cuerpos necesitan
agua. Alrededor del 70% de nuestro cuerpo es agua.
A menudo leemos que necesitamos beber al menos ocho
vasos de agua al día (alrededor de dos litros).
De hecho, cuanta agua necesitamos depende del clima y
de lo que estemos haciendo. Cuando hace calor o si
realizamos deporte o ejercicio necesitamos tomar más.
Algunos expertos dicen que en normales condiciones
realmente necesitamos alrededor de un litro de agua por
día.
Podemos conseguir agua de las comidas, especialmente
de frutas y vegetales (una manzana es 85% agua, una
cebolla es 87%).
También obtenemos agua de otras bebidas como en jugo
de frutas, café y bebidas cola.

We should always drink water.
In winter we wear a lot of clothes and we lose a lot of water.
In summer because the weather ishot and we also sweat a lot.
We should drink natural vegetable or fruit juice, tea or ice tea instead
of coffee and colas.

vez de café y bebidas cola.

If you are a smoker and you can´t give
up smoking… how about fewer
cigarettes? Why don’t you try mint-
candies instead? And… walk, walk, walk
along the streets or around squares and
forget about smoking!

• Choose a balanced, healthy diet. Eat a lot offruit, vegetables, fish and chicken. Cut downsaturated fats and reduce the amount ofsugar in tea or coffee.
• Don’t add too much salt to food.
• You should have at least three meals a day.Eat little portions more frecuently. Rememberyour body needs a steady flow of energy.
