Dates to Remember for Term 4
Principal’s Report
securing 3rd place out of about sixty students. Well done to Taylah, Ruby, Dante, Krystos and Hudson.
Buddy Kinder Visits
One of this week’s highlights has been our Grade 4 students visiting the local Kindergartens to meet their new prep buddy for 2019. Whilst our new buddies were only able to spend a short time together, it is the beginning of a very important relationship between our new students and their new advocates. I have always highlighted the importance of good relationships as being pivotal for educational success.
5/6 Milo Cricket
Many of our 5/6 students represented our school at the Black Ranges Cricket Tournament on Monday. Our boys team came away as victors! This year we have seen some great successes in a range of sports including football, basketball and now, cricket. The boys’ will be competing at the Greater Western Regional level next week. Good luck, boys!
Inter School Moderation
Many of the staff from Ararat West Primary School joined us on Monday night to build on our collective ability in writing. Staff were given the opportunity to share and reflect on current writing practice and assessment. Our school staff were happy to host the event, which proved to be a valuable use of time. I would like to thank Mr. Terry Keilar and his staff for giving up their time to work with us.
Have a fantastic weekend:)
Ryan
Dear Parents,
We’ve had another busy, yet productive week here at Ararat Primary School.
Arts Extravaganza
What a fantastic event! Thank you so very much to the parents and community members who took the time to come along to our Arts Extravaganza last week. The event kicked off with an opening of our revamped Kitchen Garden, which included a showcase of our pizza oven. It was a great opportunity to honour our student Earthlings group, who do a fantastic job of advocating for sustainability across our school. Our Junior and Senior Choirs performed a number of different songs whilst proud parents either viewed different artworks produced by our students over the course of the year, or just enjoyed the music. Our wonderful school band, 800 Decibels, then treated us to a mixture of modern and classic tunes. The event culminated in a series of performances from Bamboozle; many of which were choreographed by the children themselves. A huge thank you, once again, to Ms. Fiscalini, Mr. Collins, Mr. Haddow and Miss Sharp for coordinating the evening.
Remembrance Service
On Friday our School Leaders led our annual Remembrance Service. Adding to the importance of the service was the fact that this year marks the Centenary of Armistice. I was immensely proud of how many staff members and parents commented on just how well our School Leaders spoke during the service. It is reassuring to know that the importance of days like Remembrance Day is held in the hearts and minds of our young leaders.
Chess Excursion
On Friday I had the pleasure of taking five students to Beaufort Primary School to participate in the Inaugural Chess Tournament for Ararat/Pyrenees Schools. Whilst the primary purpose of the tournament was to have fun, it is worth mentioning that two of our students came very close to

Head lice . . .
It has become evident over the last two weeks that the “dreaded” head lice are starting to become quite active within the school.
Please take the time to check your child’s hair, to ensure that they are not carrying live lice or eggs, and treat if required.
If your child has lice, they need to have their hair treated before they can return to school.
For more information on how to treat your child’s hair please go to the following web site https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/head-lice

Last week we went on a little excursion to the local Ararat Library. It was great to visit a different library and
have a look through some of their animal books. We are beginning to research our chosen animal for our
Term 4 Discoveries project. When we returned, we wrote a recount about our excursion. Here are some of
our recounts…
“I went to the Library and my partner was Leroy. I liked it because it was fun.” – Kayla
“I went to the Library with Mrs D. I held hands and I was happy. I enjoyed the books about
sharks.” - Aussie
“I looked at the books and I read with Chloe.” – Layla
“I liked my book. I read to Mackenzie and I felt happy.” - Elijah
“I went to the Library and I saw a sign on the door, it said it was closed.
I walked with Max. It was fun.” – Daniella
We are half-way through the term, and the Senior School is still moving
full steam ahead. Now that topics have been finalised for the ‘Pick My
Project’ investigation in Mappen, students are busy researching and
preparing a proposal to present at the expo in Week 10.
The 5/6 classes are well into assessments at the moment, preparing to be able to review growth of all the
students, to inform our reports. The students have shown an incredible attitude and growth mindset in
completing assessments, as they are not everybody’s favourite thing to do at school.
At this time of year, we often see the students, Grade 6s in particular, become a little
restless. Our Grade 6s will soon be preparing for graduation and their transition into
Secondary School. It’d be great if you could discuss some of these potential changes
with your child, to help them transition smoothly and stay the course for the remainder
of the term.
This week in 3/4B our learning intention for reading is to make inferences. I like how you can use every part
of the book to make them.
In writing we learnt about expositions. I love the fact that you can argue
your point of view.
In maths we are learning to multiply numbers and understand fact families.
My group in Mappen are learning about the Solomon Islands. Now I know
that the Solomon Islands have over 900 islands
in it.

Grade 1 and 2 are very busy hard at work with Discoveries and preparing for our Expo on Thursday 6th December. This terms topic is ‘Animals’ and the students have been busy researching about all kinds of different animals. They are creating posters and making their creations. It will be exciting to see the finished product at the Expo! Some animals include African Wild Dogs, Orang-Utans, Snow Leopards, Arctic Foxes, Alpacas, Pygmy Marmoset, Tigers, Lions, Walrus, Honey-badger and Poison Dart frog. Hope to see you in the Learning Centre.

Awards . . . Water Week Poster Competition
In Term 3 several students had their Water Week posters entered in the GMW water week competition. We have had one very lucky student whose poster has won the Prep section of the competition. Congratulations to Leroy O’Neill who designed a fantastic poster featuring a rainbow, trees and of course rain. He made his poster stand out by outlining his writing and pictures. It looks amazing and he has done a brilliant job. Leroy’s poster was chosen for 1st place out of over 500 entries across 20 schools in the region. Well done, Leroy!
