PARISH FINANCIAL UPDATENEXT WEEKEND – AUGUST 24-25An update on the financial status of the parish will be presented by Fr. Mike at all Masses next weekend. Fr. Mike will address the current funding level of parish ministries and operations and our outstanding liabilities related to Phase 1 of our master plan (McGowan Hall) and the priests’ residence. In addi-tion, you will hear up to date information on the “For Christ Forever” diocesan campaign and what it means for Our Lady of Fatima. Many of you have made inquiries over the past few months concerning our status and this presentation is intended to respond to you with clear and comprehensive information. Members of the pastoral staff and parish finance council will also be on hand to answer questions.

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,/Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,I am away this week at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico to close the Catholic Chaplaincy for the summer. Chaplains also drive out to the backcoun-try to bring back to headquarters the summer employees (most of whom are young adults) so that they can return to school. Each summer I have to have my “Philmont fix” and I am happy that I can be there for at least ten days to end of the season.

Father David McNamara departs on Tuesday, August 27 for Ireland. I am very grateful for Father David and his generosity in coming to San Clemente for the past 19 years to be with us. It allows me to be away a little bit, and his presence allows our parishioners who have grown attached to Father David to reconnect with him.

Next Sunday the parish will have the Blessing of the Backpacks after the Masses. Catholic schools begin the fall semester on August 25 and public schools on September 6 so we invite all young people to bring their backpacks to church so the priests can bless them at Mass.

After the 9am and 11am Masses on August 25, all parishioners are invited to visit Our Lady of Fatima School. This is a great opportunity to visit the various classrooms as well as the new Transitional Kindergarten classroom and playground area. Come visit the school and meet the new principal, Mrs. Joanne Williams!

Esta semana estaré en el Rancho Scout Philmont en Cimarron, Nuevo México para cerrar la Capellanía Católica para el verano. Los Capellanes también van para ty traen de vuelta a la oficina central a los empleados de verano (en su mayoría son jóvenes adultos para que regresen a la escuela). Cada verano tengo que tener mi "ajuste de Philmont" y estoy feliz de que puedo estar ahí durante al menos diez días a fin de la temporada.

El Padre David McNamara sale el martes, 27 de agosto para Irlanda. Su último fin de semana en la parroquia es el 24 y 25 de agosto. Estoy agradecido con el Padre David y su generosidad por los últimos 19 años que está con nosotros. Me permite estar ausente un poco más con su presencia y permite a nuestros feligreses que han creado una conexión con el Padre David a conectarse con él.

El domingo 25 de agosto la parroquia tendrá la Bendición de las Mochilas después de las Misas. Escuelas católicas comienzan el 25 de agosto y las escuelas públicas el 6 de septiembre, así que invitamos a todos los jóvenes a traer sus mochilas a la iglesia para que los sacerdotes las bendiga en la misa.

Después de las Misas de las 9:00 AM y 11:00 AM el próximo domingo (25 de agosto) todos los feligreses están invitados a visitar la escuela de Nuestra Señora de Fátima. Este es una gran oportunidad para visitar los diferentes salones, así como el nuevo salón de Kindergarten y su patio de recreo que fue remodelado. Venga a visitar la escuela y a conocer la nueva Directora la Sra. Joanne Williams!

Elder Abuse Prevention TrainingAll people are invited to help make a safer environment for our elders. However, this training is required for those who take Com-munion to the sick or homebound. Any person that takes Com-munion outside of the church must comply with the new diocesan regulations by September 30. An online version is available for your convenience. Stocking the pantryOur parish’s monthly food collection is a vital and consistent source of food for the local pantry operated by our ministry partner Family Assistance Ministries (FAM.) The food collection takes place on the 4th Sunday of each month and is delivered to FAM’s pantry by parish volunteers. Empty grocery bags are available this weekend with a list of needed items. Pick one up and return it next week. All are invited to assist with the food collection, including families and teens. For more information, contact Dixie Gillivan at 361-0792.

Blessing of BackpacksAUGUST 24 & 25We will bless our students, and their backpacks, at all of the Masses on the weekend of August 24-25. Students can bring their backpacks with them to Mass and receive the blessing, which will be given after Communion.

Updated Information for High School Confirmation CandidatesIf you are interested in being confirmed and have not yet enrolled in the program, please plan to attend an orientation session with one of your parents on September 9 or 12 in church at 7pm. The September 12 meeting will be in Spanish and English. During this session you will learn what will be expected of you as you prepare for the celebration of the sacrament. Attendance at one of these sessions is the first step in the process.

Second year candidates, it is not necessary for you to come to an orientation session. Simply watch for an e-mail that directs you to go to the website and complete your registration and pay your fee. When your registration is submitted, you’ll receive a schedule that will allow you to select your classes for the coming year.
