Greenwich Peninsula, formerly Europe’s largest town gasworks, is the

single largest brownfield development site in London and of major

strategic importance.

We provided the complete spectrum of specialist consultancy beginning

with assessment and remediation of ground contamination. We have

also been prime consultants with responsibility for procurement and

project management, including design and implementation of new

infrastructure, landscaping and riverside reconstruction across the whole

120 hectare site.

Parks have been designed to create a natural forested area where

buildings and urban space appear to be carved out of their setting.

Two central elements of the Southern Park are an ecology park, created

around two lakes and the village green at the heart of the proposed

Millennium Village.

At Allford Hall Monaghan Morris we make buildings that are satisfying to use and beautiful to look at; an architecture that is defined by the experience of users who should be able to understand and use each building with ease and enjoyment.

We are part of a team where each member has a vital role, but most importantly we enjoy working with anybody who shares our belief that architecture can make a positive, inspirational but never overbearing contribution to the world around

Major Projects include:

• Barking Central• Adelaide Wharf• East Croydon Masterplan• Nine Elms• Kentish Town Health Centre• Sunshine House• Westminster Academy at The

Naim Dangoor Centre• Chobham Academy• The Angel Building• Yellow Building & Notting

We design very different buildings, for very different people to use in very different ways and, since our early days in the late 1980s, we have grown from four to over one hundred & fifty people and our budgets from a few thousand to tens of millions of pounds

Through our wide range of projects we search for the opportunities in every site, budget and programme We pursue a pragmatic, analytical and collaborative working method to produce responsive, intelligent and delightful architecture This clarity with which we work facilitates discussion between all parties: clients, stakeholders, architects, collaborators, constructors and users

Our aesthetic approach is shaped by our working method With clear and logical design concepts, our buildings are easy to recognise and enjoyable to use We innovate because we know that innovation is as much about finding simpler ways of doing things better as it is about finding new things to do

Over the last twenty-two years this way of seeing the world has allowed us to make architecture which resonates with our clients, some critics and changing constructional techniques Our success is reflected in the winning of many competitions and numerous design awards for houses, apartments, schools, sports and exhibition buildings, healthcare facilities, offices and the odd bus station, art gallery and now, interestingly, hybrids of many of the above

Masterplanning fuses the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and planning to develop visions for successful places, most commonly in the form of design frameworks. It is about the process as well as the product of placemaking. How a vision is developed and subsequently delivered is critical to the successful creation of attractive and sustainable cities, towns and villages, and fundamental to their realisation.

Austin-Smith:Lord’s back catalogue contains numerous masterplans and frameworks which have subsequently been delivered in partnership with others Our approach to masterplanning is proactive and adaptable, always seeking to maximise the value of place

By proactive we mean taking the initiative with both process and product Generous and creative with ideas and suggestions; and leading the way in terms of consulting and involving stakeholders when it comes to process

Proactive in our understanding of the power of an intelligent masterplan or design framework in terms of the product: we know how effective they can be as tools for further investment and promotion on our clients’ behalf

By adaptable we mean looking to incorporate inevitable long-term economic and social change into our plans from the outset – fundamental when operating within long-term timeframes We ensure that the key elements of a plan do not hang on a single solution, instead balancing strong and robust direction to ensure delivery on the one hand with inbuilt flexibility in the design in order to accommodate new ideas and needs as they emerge on the other As a consequence the results are inevitably stronger and more relevant

Our masterplanning team includes leading practitioners in the field who are also involved in championing design quality, investing their expertise to improve skills through teaching and mentoring and by conducting research relevant to practice Our urban design / masterplanning work has won several prestigious awards, including: British Urban Regeneration Awards, RIBA, RTPI and RIAS Awards, Civic Trust Awards, and Roses Awards

A40 Transport for London Redevelopment Sitesa masterplan for 13 sites owned by Transport for London (TFL), fronting the A40 in West London, and then to generate development briefs and outline designs to RIBA Stage C for each site

Roscoe Street Redevelopment, LiverpoolA redevelopment for mainly 1 and 2 bedroom apartments Town houses, studio or office accommodation form new frontages to the existing streets to retain and reinstate the urban form

Redevelopment of Bakery Works, Berry StreetProposals for a mixed use development of this conservation area site in central Liverpool are on going and in discussion with the client and the planning authority

Passive House Design CompetitionThe proposed design uses Passive House strategies of compact form and insulation, southern orientation, energy efficient glazing, air tightness, passive preheating of fresh air, heat recovery from a heat exchanger and energy saving appliances, all to minimise the energy load for the house The strategy to simplify the construction of the house utilising innovative ‘self-build’ type technology is demonstrated - using a ‘Larsen Truss’ lightweight timber rame

Ecorys (previously ECOTEC Research & Consulting) is one of Europe’s foremost providers of independent economic research and policy advice to the public and private sectors.

We work at the local, regional, national and international level, and possess an extensive client base encompassing UK Government Departments, RDAs, the European Commission, Local Authorities, the corporate sector and industry organisations In the UK we operate from offices in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Keele We also have a network of home-based workers throughout the country and currently employ about 150 staff The Ecorys Group employs about 600 people across Europe

Experience and Specialisms

Regeneration and Economic Development

We take a different view on regeneration, and we can help you form the policies that make a difference too. At Ecorys we believe in moving the focus of regeneration to tackling the underlying causes of decline. We look to bring together issues of economy and issues of place…strongly recognising and appreciating that all spatial development takes place in an economic context…and that all economic development impacts on location and space. We have been involved with all major regeneration programmes in the UK over the past three decades.

Social Policy

Our social policy business unit has extensive experience in social policy research, evaluation and consultancy work at local, regional and national levels within the UK and across Europe We can help you to understand the policy context in which you operate, work

with partners, and understand your beneficiaries’ needs We can implement practical research and evaluation solutions which provide advice and support to help you plan for the future Key areas of expertise include: social inclusion, health, crime, worklessness, third sector, education, skills and training

Low Carbon, Energy and Climate Change

Climate change is arguably the largest problem facing the world – now and into the future We know how difficult it can be achieving sustainable development, and our track record in policy development and advice relating to climate change, environmental technologies and energy policy can help you find a way to understand and face these challenges From policy advice and evaluation of Europe-wide programmes to advice to individual local authorities, our expertise includes research, statistical analysis skills and project and programme evaluation at a European, national, regional and sub regional scale

Housing

Bricks and mortar are only part of the answer Housing market instabillty and a lack of affordable homes provide a major challenge for the housing policymaker - and the picture on the ground is even more complex when you add poor quality neighbourhoods plagued by low employment and incomes, limited aspirations and a decaying infrastructure Our analysis supports approaches to meet the needs of local communities; this is the only way to ensure that the benefits of intervention are long term and factor

in the full range of social, economic and environmental issues essential to meet the objective of creating sustainable communities

Economic Analysis

Fluid works at the threshold between architecture, participation and traditional planning. Our work has shaped a new attitude to neighbourhood planning and urban design and we have led a number of key regeneration projects across the UK and in London.

Perfectly Situated for Localism

Our work on Kings Cross Framework for Regeneration (KXC) set the benchmark for public and stakeholder involvement Over the last 10 years we have developed a unique approach to community involvement linked to the ideas of ‘dynamic masterplanning’ and ‘interstitial urbanism’ - these often use strategic urban concepts to prepare the ground, introduce new economic potentials or simply redraw the mental map of an area leading to our production of robust and sustainable masterplans

Fluid has worked on some of the most complex masterplans over the past decade including KXC, The Olympic and legacy masterplans, High Street 2012, Sheffield Neighbourhood Development Plans, HMR projects and many mixed-use and housing-led regeneration and development projects

We work with design teams, developers, housing providers, local authorities, agencies and communities in a collaborative way to ensure shared ownership, support and a distinct identity for every project We operate at the large, medium and small scale and can bring the vision for a place through into the expression, form, detail and delivery of the architecture

URBED (Urbanism, Environment and Design) does what our name suggests we specialise in urban design and sustainability in an urban context We work across the UK from our base in Manchester and for public and private sector clients

Recent work has ranged from town centre strategies to outline planning applications for large commercial masterplans, from University estate strategies to urban design guidance This work is united by our core values of urbanism, community, environmental sustainability and design

Who we are

URBED (Urbanism, Environment and Design) is an employee-owned co-operative of 16 staff and associates, including planners, architects a sustainability expert and a highway engineer We work in three broad overlapping areas:

1 . Public sector consultancy, including visioning, strategy development, consultation, masterplanning and sustainability strategies

2 . Masterplanning for developers including developer competitions, scheme development, sustainability and renewable energy systems, outline planning and design coordination

3 . Research, writing and advocacy including policy reports for government, research for think tanks and our in-house, publication and event programmes such as the Urban Scrawl

What we believe

All of this work is united by a foundation of four core principles:

Urbanism: Our work is rooted in the principles of the urban renaissance as set out by the Urban Task Force, with whom we worked We believe in the importance of creating and sustaining lively, prosperous towns and cities by focusing new development within existing settlements and creating attractive, mixed-use, walkable and socially mixed urban neighbourhoods

Community: URBED grew out of the redevelopment of Hulme and the Homes for Change Housing Co-operative A belief in the importance of communities informs all of our work We run masterplanning training community groups and most of our work includes round-table workshops, Design for Change charettes or the URBED Routemaster bus that is fitted out as a consultation venue

Sustainability: Since 1996 we have been running the SUN (Sustainable Urban Neighbourhood) Initiative, exploring how the principles of environmental sustainability can be applied to urban areas This has combined research for organisations such as the Building Research Establishment with practical work for developers seeking to incorporate sustainable technologies into schemes

Design: URBED prides itself in combining these principles with a strong design ethos In recent years we have won seven masterplanning/ design competitions against some of the country¹s leading architectural practices

West + Machell are a medium sized, Leeds based architectural practice We work throughout the country, with a commitment to design, delivery and listening to our clients

West + Machel l

Formed 21 years ago, we successfully focus on four major areas of design and delivery and have received a variety of architectural awards refl ecting our ability in these fields

• RESIDENTIAL - in particular social, extracare and supported housing

• HEALTH CARE - with a special focus on the emerging importance of conglomerate service groups for clinical and mental care through the LIFT programme

• REGENERATION + MASTERPLANNING - transforming failing inner city areas

• COMMERCIAL - focusing on multi service and mixed provision within major towns and cities

By focusing on a limited number of areas we have built our expertise in these fi elds and so can input at all design stages to create a successful project

Working with both Public and Private Partners our approach has to embrace the varied expectations and operational styles of these often disparate organisations Current projects range from masterplanners for a housing PFI through to the preparation of proposals for renewing a failing district centre for a local authority and a major retailer These projects involve both a community led approach to the planning and design issues and a longer term strategic and economic overview

Within the practice we have a CABE Enabler, a member of the HCA Regional Design Review Panel and ALMO Board Member We are therefore able to contribute to the housing debate at a national level

In-house services include 3D visualisation, Code for Sustainable Homes and SAP Assessments
