We live in a message

If the human body has once been affected by two or morebodies at the same time, then when the mind subequentlyimagines one of them, it will immediately recollect the

others also.Benedictus de Spinoza

The interior is only a selected exterior and the exterior aprojected interior.

Gilles Deleuze

The soul is the prison of the body.Michel Foucault

• Spuybroek: architectuur als een responsive prothesis into our motor system

Virilio over Globalisering

• Global Village (McLuhan)= the end of space, end of geography• “The continents have lost their geographical foundations and been

supplanted by the tele-continents of a global communication system whichhas become quasi-instantaneous”

• Geostrategy is turning the globe inside out like a glove (see Saskia Sassen)• Real city gives way to the virtual city, als opgenomen in het cluster van de

world meta-city: temporal compression and tele-surveillance.

Dromosphere= the acceleration of speed

• Met McLuhan: Then, Just as the European Renaissanceis unimaginable without the invention of the perspectiveof real space and of Galileo’s telescope, so geopoliticalglobalization will be inseperable from the unification of this real-time perspective and this new spatio-temporalrelief that is a product of the electromagnetic radiation of telecommunications.”(p.198)

• The light of speed supplants the light of the sun and thealternation of day and night

• Virilio onderzoekt de schaduwkanten van de technologie

Cache in Buiten : Wat is geografie?

•“This outside is not relative to a given inside; it exceeds any attempt atinteriority”

Mandelbrot

“Geographical objects have become the privilegedmodels of fractal objects”

Voorbeeld: “How Long Isthe Coast of Britain? Statistical Self-Similarity andFractional Dimension”

Cachefractal logic:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_GBwuYuOOs&feature=related

“It is therefore not only the power of continuity that allows a virtual

infinity to emerge between two points, contiguous as they may be. Itis that between any points there is an interval, a zone of indeterminacy or availability that can always give rise, in an aleatorymanner, to another fold. … If we draw surfaces with variablecurvatures within an architectural framework, we can say that weare introducing an outside on the inside.”

Stuctuur en Huid

Twee architectonische principes, structuur en huid (skin):

• Gropius en Corbusier prefereren

structuur

• Michel Serres: Life has evolved from animal forms, where what is soft lies on the inside and is covered by ahard outside, to other forms, such as ours, where what ishad becomes interior: bones, cartilage, skeleton, whilethe soft is pressed out: flesh, mucous, skin…

• By the end of this evolution we might drop the bonesaltogeter.

Spuybroek/ NOX: Liquid Architecture

“Every change of muscle tone in the motor system hasits topological effect, because outside and body arenetworked into one object with its own particular

coherence, where seeing and walking and acting areinterconnected in one feeking skin, without top or bottombut with an all around orientation.” (p.2)
