Representatives from the Holmen Area Community Center building
campaign will present a fundraising approach to the Holmen Business
Association at the Association’s July 14th meeting. Several area businesses
have recently offered promotions to help fund the Community Center.
These welcomed initiatives led to conversations about how other
businesses might participate in one or more special initiatives. While
participation by individual businesses (and their customers) would be
voluntary in any case, a coordinated approach could be most productive
and efficient for businesses and their patrons. Here are a few examples
for your consideration prior to the discussion on July 14:
Add 1% to the sales ticket – customer would authorize adding 1% to their
purchase, a function typically completed at a register or by other
electronic means at the time of purchase.
Customer chooses to add $1 to $5 – this a common promotion offered by
retailers. Customers would be asked: “Would you like to add a dollar as a
contribution to the Community Center?” During the holiday season,
Salvation Army utilizes small slips marked in either $1 or $5
denominations, rung up and thus added to the purchase. The business
would then transfer a cumulative amount to community center building
fund.
Counter-top container for “loose change” – small, attractive clear
plastic containers could be produced for placement near the register to
encourage donations.
One-time or annual business contribution – in the event that these
(above) or other options prove impractical for certain businesses and/or
professional offices, a direct business contribution may prove to be the
most productive way to participate.
Those who have been working on the Holmen Area Community Center are
anxious to hear from area business leaders. We welcome this opportunity
for input on July 14. Your cooperation and good counsel are essential as
we work together to create attractive, accessible facilities for our rapidly-
growing hometown region.

We exist to help individuals and families in the Coulee Region
experience full life in Christ.
Coulee Life Church is a new church in the Holmen/Onalaska area that is focused on serving the community through programs such as hosting The Parenting Place’s Monday Morning Play Shoppe for parents and children and helping to provide free summer lunches for children through Holmen’s Hope. This past Easter was our first annual Community Easter Egg Hunt which hosted over 75 children searching for 2,000 filled Easter eggs. Over the past few months, our Parents Night Out events have provided free childcare for children ages 18 months -5th grade while parents have an evening away. These events and more will continue as we look for more ways to serve individuals and families here in the Coulee Region.

In May, Mike Herro from Xcel Energy provided us with information regarding a pilot program called “Community Shared Solar Gardens.” They are centrally located solar PV arrays that provide electricity to participating subscribers. The partner-developer plans to break ground on two new solar gardens in 2016. One field will be in the Rockland area. Solar gardens make solar energy a possibility for everyone – home owners, renters and businesses. This program allows anyone to “go solar” without having to install and maintain panels. For more information, contact Mike at 800-895-4999 or [email protected] or visit the website at www.xcelenergy.com/SolarConnectCommunity or [email protected].
The Holmen Area Foundation had a wonderful meeting in May hosted by the students at the Academy on the Prairie. The students received cameras through the Viking Fund for Education Excellence Grant, and they highlighted their experience through photos. It was a great morning!
