Welcoming Guest Pastor, Dr. Tommy Green

~ Announcements for January 08, 2017 ~

As Dr. Sheila Bookout and the Staff Parish Relations (SPR) chair, David Brackett, communicated in December, Sheila will be taking a 90 day renewal leave. Sheila’s leave began January 1st and will provide a time for Sheila to rest, reflect, and renew. We are excited for Sheila to have this opportunity. We have had a lot of great things happening at Haygood under Sheila's leadership, including a steady stream of new members, baby baptisms, consistent giving and church-wide enthusiasm. As a congregation, we will need to work to continue this success. We will look forward to Sheila's return following this short time of renewal leave.

While Sheila is away, Dr. Tommy Green will step in to support Haygood UMC. Tommy recently retired from the North Georgia Conference of the UMC. Tommy served for the past 46 years and most recently served his last 10 years at Duluth First United Methodist Church, in Duluth, Georgia. Tommy is married to his wife Patty, they have three children, and reside in the Berkley Lake community just north of Atlanta. Let’s give Tommy and his family a warm Haygood welcome!

Covenant Bible Study Resumes January 22nd

~ Announcements for January 08, 2017 ~

The Bible speaks in more than one voice. It contains many conversations and perspectives inviting us to join a discussion that began with creation in Genesis and extends to our coffee shops, offices, schools and dinner tables. Covenant Bible Study is one way to connect with the deepest realities of our faith. Its goal is to cultivate a lifelong trust in God and help us discover the Bible as a friend for life. Covenant is based on the simple idea that we live well when we love well. When we read the Bible together, we remember and retell the deepest story we know. This is the story of who we are, where we come from, and where we go wrong. It is a study in which you are invited to read and discuss the Bible together, learning how to love God - and each other - better. Covenant represents a relationship - a living, breathing conversation. And, we invite you to join in it. Groups are invited to meet weekly for 8 weeks. What Is It? The material is reflective of the Disciple program, but addresses some of the barriers to participation. The program offers 3 8-week segments, the segments can be done in one hour, and the Bible work is not as massive or intense. Its focus is on our Biblical story and as people of that story, how do we fit in and order our lives. How Much Work Is Involved? There is a daily Scripture reading and a paragraph offering up ways to reflect and engage the reading. You are invited to go deeper with access to more videos.

When Do The Groups Meet?

6:00 Saturday Night - Sheila Bookout 9:45 Sunday Morning - Danny Morris, Wally Rice, Harrison Kohler

6:00 Sunday Night - Wally Rice 10:00 Tuesday Morning - Sheila Bookout 10:00 Tuesday Morning - Connie Morris

If you are not already signed up for a Covenant Class and would like to participate, please see one

of the group leaders for the day/time you wish to attend. We look forward to seeing you!

Worship Readiness

Beginning January 22nd through March 5th we will have Worship Readiness class for our children who are in first grade. This is a great way for first graders to learn why we sit still in worship and what all of the things we do mean. They will play games, sing songs, have a snack, and learn how cool church is. The kids will be excused to go to the chapel with Ms. Virginia, one of our children’s interns, after the children’s message during the Sunday service. You may pick your child up from the parlor after service.
