The Offertory Prayer Mrs. Brookins

The Offertory “What a Fellowship” The Chancel Choir Arr. G. Martin

*Bringing Forth our Gifts to God Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. *The Reading of the Scripture Matthew 26:26-29 (NRSV) Mrs. Sarah Fedota

26 While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will never again drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Reader: The Word of God for the people of God,

Congregation: Thanks be to God.

The Sermon “Bring Your Fears to the Table” Dr. Green

The Great Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you. Mrs. Brookins And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise…

…And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven

we will praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Page 3: Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church The Order for the ...

On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, Dr. Green

gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

"Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

When the supper was over he took the cup,

gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:

"Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant,

poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,

we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice,

in union with Christ's offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, Mr. Taylor Kaiser

and on these gifts of bread and wine.

Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ,

that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.

Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, strengthen us to run Mr. Wally Rice

with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus,

the Pioneer and Perfecter of our faith.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ,

one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,

until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet.

Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,

all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.

Upcoming Special Service and Children and Family Ministry Events

Blessing of the Backpacks—Mark Your Calendar for Next Sunday, August 13th!

Third Grade Bible Celebration and Presentation - Sunday, August 20th

Screenagers Family Event - Sunday, August 27th!

On Sunday, August 20th, we will present our third grade students with a Bible. This is a tradition not only at Haygood, but throughout the Methodist denomination. Be sure to come out and support the kids when they receive their Bibles. This will be an important day in their lives, and we pray the Bibles will be a blessing to them and support them on their faith journeys. For more information please contact Ashley Brookins, [email protected]

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the

average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. In SCREENAGERS, as with her a ward-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she

probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny

stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and offers solutions on how

adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

We look forward to this educational evening, which will be in partnership with the Weekday Children's Ministry (WCM). For more information, please contact Ashley Brookins.

Friends, to celebrate the start of a new school year, we want to “Bless the Backpacks” of all the children that will be going back to school. So, during next week’s worship service, be sure to have the kids bring their backpacks and we will invite them to bring them forward to be blessed.

We look forward to a successful and fun-filled school year for all the children and youth in the church; and we hope this blessing will kick-off the school year on a special note for all that participate.

Your old shoes can still provide miles of smiles for someone who doesn’t need a Fitbit to indicate they’ve walked enough each day. This is the 7th year Haygood has collected new and used shoes for Soles4Souls, which distributes new shoes to those in need in the US and abroad and recycles used shoes thru micro-enterprises in developing countries. Last year we collected over 1000 shoes, let’s see if we can beat that this year!

You can still bring your shoes to Haygood or simply leave them on the Lawn. It’s a neighbor-hood event! And we have our lawn back this year to catch the attention of our neighbors. So, dig deep in your closet corners and find those shoes you’ll never use. They’ll help someone whose way is probably less paved than yours. On August 9th, after our first Wednesday Night Supper since May – we will pair, sort and bag shoes for delivery to the Soles4Souls warehouse!
