TEMPORARY LODGING

While you are staying in temporary housing, there are designated schools for your child until your family

receives permanent housing. Choose your home wisely; your child will be assigned to a school based on the

street you live on. If you move to a house that is located in a different district than your temporary lodging,

your child will be assigned to a different school. The temporary schools do not have space to accommodate

temporary students all year long. Geographic Exceptions (G.E’s) to attend a different school are rarely granted.

For children staying at the Schofield Inn, the following have been designated as temporary schools:

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

You can go directly to the school office to register your child. They are open

Monday - Fridays, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and are closed on State holidays. The ideal

registration hours for most schools are 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. After all paperwork is submitted,

your child will be able to start in about two days. You do not need to wait for permanent

housing for your child to start school, they can attend a temporary school in the meantime.

However, if housing can provide you with the name of the community that you will be

living in and you can provide written documentation, your child can start at their assigned

school prior to moving into permanent quarters.

Children registering in Hawaii for the first time need:

1. Birth certificate (baptismal, medical records, passport or visa is accepted).

2. Report card/records from the previous school.

- Contact info for the previous school is sufficient if records were not released

3. Medical records, including:

- Physical examination by a licensed physician within 12 months of date

entering school. Students without a current physical may start school with a

documented appointment date. Contact the Central Appointments office at

(808) 433-2778 to schedule an appointment and for additional information.

- A tuberculosis test with a negative reading performed within 12 months of

date entering school. The Schofield Barracks Allergy and Immunization

Walk-in Clinic can be reached at (808) 433-8145. Call the clinic for their

hours of operation. Tripler Army Medical Center does not have a Walk-in

Clinic for children. Please call Tripler at 433-9226 for more information. If

you are new to Hawaii, please register first with Tricare. For questions

regarding Tricare, you may call (888) 874-9378.

4. Proof of residency (housing papers, utility bill, etc.).

5. Special needs students and Gifted and Talented students should bring in all

prior documentation.

6. 7th

grade students will need to show proof of the varicella immunization or

documentation of having the chicken pox.
