It is a software program, like Microsoft Word, which allows organists to play virtual replicas of historic and contemporary instruments, complete with the acoustics of the room, blower noise, stop and key action noises in the comfort of their own homes.

Hauptwerk is available in three editions.

Free: play some smaller organs with limitations.

Basic: play moderate sized instruments, but no voicing.

Advanced: play any instrument in up to 512 channels of audio and be able to voice each note according to several parameters.
