Based on the site of an old sand quarry, Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre is a fantastic facility for outdoor enthusiasts and novices alike.

Located just 15 minutes from Doncaster town centre, Hatfield offers a whole host of water and land-based activities including climbing, canoeing, sailing and high and low ropes, as well as a 49-pitch camp site.

Taster sessions, private tuition and group activities are all on offer to allow people

to try the activities which they are interested in. Following that, we have a whole host of beginner, intermediate and advanced courses to give you the skills to master your chosen activity.

Our TeamThe activities which we offer, are of the highest possible quality, and are taught by fully qualified National Governing Body (NGB) coaches. Our experienced and enthusiastic team is here to ensure that all activities are taught in a safe and controlled environment, allowing participants to simply enjoy their chosen activity.

All activities are delivered by experienced activity leaders and all courses are taught by fully qualified instructors’.

Safety StandardsThe Centre holds an Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA) license allowing us to provide adventurous activities for people under the age of 18. In achieving this license we have undergone regular annual inspections which ensure standards of safety

provision, suitability and condition of equipment and qualifications of instructional and safety staff.

Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) recognised teaching establishment. The RYA is the National Governing Body responsible for sailing, windsurfing and powerboating activities in Great Britain. In gaining this status the Centre must satisfy a number of annual inspections covering all aspects of our provision of these activities.

Kayaking and canoeing (Paddlesport) activities are run by British Canoe Union (BCU) qualified coaches. All of our kayaking and canoeing activities are run in line with BCU guidelines and recommendations and within the scope of our AALA license where appropriate.

Specially designed to give a brief introduction to your chosen sport or activity. Ideal for small groups of up to 8 people, providing the opportunity to learn basic techniques and get a feel for your chosen vessel.

Sessions will last 2 hours and will be led by a fully qualified instructor. Allnecessary equipment hire & safety equipment is provided. Sessions are available throughout the day, but must be booked in advance.

Private tuition available on a 1:1 basis

Holiday Activity SessionsOffering a selection of water & land based activities, these sessions are a fantastic way to try your hand at many different activities. Taking place throughout school holidays, these sessions are great for keeping even the most active of kids entertained. Recommendations are within the scope of our AALA license where appropriate.

This dynamic sport involves using a windsurf board to get afloat which is a cheap but exhilarating way of getting on the water. Sessions start on the shore, but will soon move onto the water as once the basics are mastered.onto the water as once the basics are mastered.

Utilising either a Canoe or a Kayak, this sport is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get on the water safely. After a short period on shore learning the basics, you will soon be progressing onto the water.

Overview

The emphasis of the 2* and Discovery courses is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desired movement of the boat(s) and developing anunderstanding of how the paddle, boat and water interact. Aspects of theory covered include equipment, access, safety and group awareness. The award is obtained by taking the assessment in both kayak and canoe.

Water Freedom The session starts with a safety briefing on all the craft available that day from a list of sit-on-top kayaks, canoes and windsurf boards. The instructor then positions himself in a rescue boat while the group aregiventhefreedomtoexplorethelake/play games however they choose, always in the knowledge an instructor is on hand if they need them.

Land Based Activities

Climbing

Ascend the tower and not only gain a sense of achievement but also develop teamwork and responsibility for each other by learning the belaying technique.

High RopesDesigned to develop self-confidence and communication skills, all challenges takepartonourpurposebuilttower.Weadopt a challenge by choice principle were every individual will be encouraged to set their own goals then motivated to achieve them.

There are five different sessions available, Gladiator Challenge, Balance Beam and WireCrossing,LeapofFaith,HighAll-Aboard and Crate Stack. Please get in touch to discuss which session will best suittheneeds/abilitiesofyourgroup.

Low RopesA challenge activity similar to an assault course based low down amongst the trees where the emphasis is on teamwork.

ArcheryLearn the basic skills of archery and develop a high degree of responsibility towards others.

Problem SolvingWorkingtogetherasateamtoovercomethe challenges and solve the problems.

Alien Invasion A combination of orienteering and problem solving where the group has to complete challenges to help stop the planet being invaded by aliens.

Low Level WalkThis activity takes you offsite. It is 2.8 Miles/4.5KilometreslongFollowing the footpaths and bridleways from the centre you will be taken on flat, peaceful walk where the group can experience map reading, a nature hunt, relax or possibly find a field to play some games.

Accommodation AvailableTo compliment our Group Activity, we have a fully furnished accommodation block. Consisting of 20 accessible en-suite rooms as well as a classroom and common room, the accommodation is a fantastic facility for all groups wishing to spend a night or more here.

Designed to actively promote development of essential skills and qualities, such as communication, teamwork & leadership. Water Based ActivitiesKayakingSingle person sit-on-top kayaks are used to master the basics whilst still having fun, and playing games

Canoeing A craft for 2 or 3 people - you will learn the basics to get you around the lake and to play games. Teamwork and communication is essential.

Canoe Treasure Hunt Workingasateamusethecanoesandyour map reading skills to find the clues and work out the secret location of your team’s treasure box.

Raft Building

Worktogethertofirstdesignaraft,thenbuild it using the materials provided and finally test it on the water.

Watersports An instructor led wet session, playing games in and around the water using windsurf boards and the odd canoe. Based close to shore.

Private LaunchThe public are welcome to launch their own vessel on the lake. The lake is suitable for sailing dinghies, windsurf boards, kayaks and canoes.

Access permits can be purchased from the centre throughout normal casual use opening times and will allow access for a minimum of 2 hours.

Equipment HireA wide range of boats and equipment are available for hire from the centre, depending on your qualifications and experience. Hire boats are available during normal opening hours, subject to availability and weather conditions. Booking is essential.Hire period: 1 hour unless otherwise stated
