A Summer Camp as Exceptional as Your Child

Fun and Self-Discovery for AllHarvey Cavalier Camp is situated in an incomparable setting of magnificent vistas which include expansive fields and woods on its 125 acres in the hills of Katonah, New York.

In our camp offerings, children in grades Pre-K through ninth can pursue their passion for the performing and/or fine arts, guided by professional educators and artists. The children develop the confidence that comes from mastering new pursuits and meeting others with similar interests—all in a nurturing, relaxed and beautiful environment.

Your child will experience creative self-discovery in theater, dance, music, fine arts, computer graphics and science while also enjoying the options of playing sports, doing gymnastics, swimming and ice skating! No other area day camp offers such a unique variety of electives! Group productions add dimension and depth to the entire camp experience as well as promote the value of working collaboratively to reach group goals.

The friendships formed will last a lifetime. I’m thrilled that she was able to enjoy such incredible enrichment at Harvey.

Professionals at the HelmAn outstanding staff of professional educators and artists employed by The Harvey School bring out the best in every child. What sets these exceptional people apart are their talent, enthusiasm and unstinting ability to carry out our mission to provide an excellent learning experience for children in a fun, safe, nurturing environment.

As the Director of Harvey’s Cavalier Summer Camp since its inception in 1996, Chris Del Campo is well-known to the Harvey community. After a

35-year career teaching English at both the high school and college levels, Chris currently serves as communications director of The Harvey School. His experience and expertise in education and his long tenure as Harvey camp director help ensure that the staff he hires to teach your child are

talented in their field and have the skills to involve campers in engaging, fun-filled and safe activities.

I love the fact that this gorgeous campus is located in one of the most picturesque corners of Westchester.

Cavalier CampGrades 2 through 9 from 9 a.m.–4 p.m.Requires a six-week tuition commitment

Campers choose 15 electives from the more than 40 courses offered, as well as participate in their group’s production. The camp day is divided into four periods, with time off for lunch and group time activities. Special theme days spark a sense of camp spirit as campers and staff don imaginative outfits for “Crazy Hat Day,” “Decades Day,” or “Lookalike Day.”

We end each week with a Friday assembly in what we call “Variety Show” when campers and staff can choose to perform (sing, dance, do stand-up) to entertain us all, and sometimes a special guest or two appears to perform for the entire camp. A big hit each summer is “Make Your Own Sundae Day.” It creates a mess but such delicious fun!

Our campus features athletic fields, an outdoor pool, an ice rink, a state-of-the-art athletic facility, a magnificent arts center, and facilities with science labs and computers. The Lasdon Theater in The Walker Center for the Arts is the centerpiece of Harvey’s campus. This 22,000-square foot facility is a continuous source of

energy, joy and surprise.

I had a feeling when I dropped him off, he was going to have a wonderful day.

Throughout the six-week program, children experience the joys of exploring various art media and nature and engage in outdoor physical play, including, swimming in our wonderful pool. In addition the children attend indoor air-conditioned workshops with our theater specialists to learn about music, acting and stage-performance. Our resident dance instructor engages the youngsters in creative dance and movement sessions that incorporate a wide range of learning activities. At the end of the summer, we celebrate music, theater, and dance with a special revue, enjoyed by the families of our Little Cavs.

We provide morning snack and lunch for the children every day. The summer menu, prepared and served by The Harvey School’s chef and staff, offers quality food that our campers find delicious and satisfying. There is no extra fee for lunch or snacks.

Special highlights include: “Monday Morning Mayhem,” when the entire camp and staff kick off the week with a spirited and fun-filled activity together, the “Tuesday Special” (an activity period of explorations with crafts, cooking, martial arts, music and games), and “Out and About Thursdays,” a trek across campus to explore nature. Other special features include such activities as a petting zoo and pony rides, circus arts and magicians.

Extended day option (2 p.m. regular camp dismissal): After-camp snacks provided as well as indoor/outdoor activities which range from story time, free-play and organized games.

Swimming and Skating OptionsRecreational swim (vests provided if needed) is a weekly feature. Formal swim instruction and ice skating time for Little Cavs campers may be available through special arrangements with the director. The most popular water event is fun under the sprinklers during recreation time. “Big Camp Experience” is offered to children in the first grade group who opt to stay for extended day in the afternoons. First-graders can join a big camp activity after their 2 p.m. snack. Activities may include swimming, ice skating, playing sports and joining any art or theater classes available for that age group.

The relationships made in camp can have a big impact on a child’s life. It’s important to me that the Harvey staff are such excellent role models.
