1. Inspection Interval Requirements

A. Refer to the Airworthiness Limitations Chapter of this manual for information on life limitedcomponentsandmandatoryinspections.

2. Inspection Requirements

A. Wear Items

(1) Inspectallwearingpartstodetermineiftheymeetthespecificationsinthischapter.

(2) Anyserial-numberedpartfoundunairworthymustberetiredinaccordancewiththePartRetirementProcedureschapterintheHartzellStandardPracticesManual 202A (61-01-02).

B. Visual Inspection

(1) Visuallyexamineallcomponentsforevidenceofdamage,separationofmaterial,de-bond,foreignobjectdamage,erosion,corrosion,looseormissinghardware,andanyobviousdefects.

C. Dimensional Inspection

(1) Whenmeasuringthediameterofapartwithatwopointmeasuringinstrument,takeatleasttwomeasurements,unlessotherwisespecified.Obtainingameasurementoutsidethespecifiedtoleranceatanypointofmeasurementiscause for retirement of the part when a minimum of two measurements are taken.

(2) Alternately,takeeightevenlyspacedmeasurements,unlessotherwisespecified.Obtainingameasurementoutsidethespecifiedtoleranceonthree or more measurements is cause for retirement of the part when eight measurementsaretaken(twoofeightmeasurementsmaybeoutofspecifiedtolerance).Thisalternatemethodmaynotbeusedtoacceptadiameterthathasobviousdamagebeyondtheserviceablelimitsspecifiedinthe 100 hour/12 month Inspection tables in this chapter.

(3) Whenmeasuringthediameterofapartwithathreepointmeasuringinstrument,takeonemeasurement.Ameasurementoutsidethespecifiedtolerance is cause for retirement of the part.

(4) Inspectthepartfeaturestothenumberofdecimalplacesspecified.Ifthreedecimalplacesarespecified,inspecttheparttothreedecimalplacesonly.

3. Replacement Requirements

A. Refer to the 100 hour/12 month Inspection tables in this chapter. Replace all parts thathavecracks,wear,corrosion,pitting,orobviousdefectsordamagethatcouldadverselyaffectthefitorfunctionofthepartorthatdonotmeettheserviceablelimitsasspecifiedintheCheckchapterofthismanual.

B. Ifthecomponenthascorrosion,pitting,wear,ordamagelessthantheserviceablelimitsasspecifiedintheCheckchapterofthismanual,componentreplacementisnotrequired.

4. Repair

A. Ifthecomponenthascorrosion,pitting,wear,ordamagethatdoesnotmeetserviceablelimitsasspecifiedintheCheckchapterofthismanual,thecomponentmayberepairedinaccordancewiththeCorrectiveActionintheDe-iceSystem 100Hour/12MonthInspection,andtheAnti-iceSystem100Hour/12MonthInspectiontablesinthischapter.IfthecomponentcannotberepairedtomeettheservicelimitsasspecifiedintheCheckchapterofthismanual,thecomponentmustbereplaced.

B. Repairablepartfeaturesarenotedintheinspectioncriteriainthischapter.AdditionalrepairproceduresarefoundintheRepair/Modificationchapterofthismanual,unlessotherwisestated.

5. SpecificInspectionProcedures

A. PeriodicInspections

(1) An airframe or manufacturer's maintenance program may specify time intervals forinspectionandmaintenancethatdonotcoincidewiththeinspectiontimeintervalsspecifiedbyHartzellPropellerInc.Inthissituation,theairframemanufacturer’sschedulemaybeappliediftheinspectiontimeintervalsarelessthantheintervalsspecifiedbyHartzellPropellerInc.withtheexceptionthatthecalendarlimitfortheinspectionintervalmaynotexceedtwelve(12)months.Iftheairframemanufacturer'sscheduledintervalisgreaterthantheintervalsspecifiedbyHartzellPropellerInc.,theinspectionintervalmaynotexceedthosespecifiedbyHartzellPropellerInc.

(2) RefertoInspectionProceduresinthischapterortheRepairchapterinthismanualforadditionalpossiblecorrectiveactions,and/orpermittedrepairstoanydiscrepanciesdiscoveredasaresultofthePeriodicInspections.

De-ice System 100 Hour/12 Month InspectionTable 5-1

Inspect Serviceable Limits Corrective Action

A. Slip Ring Assembly (1140)

(1) Visually examine for fuel or oil leakage contamination on the slip ring. Contamination may cause excess wear of the rings.

Excessive fuel or oil leak is notpermitted.Wearacrossthe wear path less than 0.007 inch (0.178 mm) in depthispermitted.

Correct the fuel or oil leakage.Fordamagelessthanserviceablelimits,clean as necessary with cleaning solvent CM106 orCM128andanabrasivepad,CM47.Followbywiping with cleaning solvent CM106 or CM128.

(2) Visually examine for corrodedhardware.

Corrodedhardwareisnotpermitted.

Replaceanycorrodedhardware.

(3) Visually examine for damageandlooseormissinghardware.

Minordamage,suchas,nicksandscratches,ispermitted.Looseormissinghardwareortubingisnotpermitted.Minorcorrosionof the slip ring plate is permitted.

Replaceanydamagedormissinghardwareortubing.Tightenanyloosehardwareandsafetyasrequired.

(4) Visually examine the slip ring plate for corrosion.

Minordamage,suchas,nicksandscratches,arepermitted.

UsinganabrasivepadCM47orequivalent,removecorrosionandapplya chemical conversion coatinginaccordance withHartzellStandardPractices Manual 202A (61-00-02). If corrosion exceedsserviceablelimits replace the slip ring assembly.

(5) Visually examine the slipringfordamageorexcessive wear.

Ifdamageispresent,damageacrossthewearpath less than 0.007 inch (0.178mm)indepthispermitted.

Fordamagelessthanserviceablelimits,cleanusinganabrasivepadCM47 or equivalent. Ifdamageexceedsserviceable limits replace the slip ring assembly.

(6) Visually examine the slip ringplatefordamage.

Minordamageoftheslipringplateispermitted.

Ifdamageisgreaterthantheserviceablelimits,resurface the slip ring in accordancewiththe Repair/Modificationchapterof this manual.

Acrackorstructuraldamageisnotpermitted.

Iftheslipringiscrackedordamagedstructurally,replace the slip ring assembly.

(7) Visually examine the slip ring for wobble.

Ifwobbleisobserved,perform the slip ring run-out check in this chapter.

If there is wobble that adjustmentofthesliprunoutcannotcorrect,replacethe slip ring assembly.

(8) Visually examine the insulatingcompound.

Gouges,chips,orcracksintheinsulatingcompoundarenotpermitted

Iftherearegouges,chips,or cracks in the insulating compound,replacetheslipring assembly.

Morethansixexposedpits of missing insulating compoundarenotpermitted.Pits must be less than 0.060inch(1.52mm)wide.Pits must be no more than0.020inch(0.50mm)deep.Pits must be at least 0.30 inch (7.6 mm) apart.

Ifexposedpitsofmissinginsulatingcompoundaregreater than the serviceablelimits,replacetheslipringassembly.

Separation of the copperrings from the insulatingcompoundisnotpermitted.

If the copper rings haveseparatedfromtheinsulatingcompound,replace the slip ringassembly.

(4) Visually examine the cadmiumplatingforcoverage,ifapplicable.

Minorwearoncornersandrandomlightscratchesarepermitted;otherwise,complete coverage is required.

If the coverage is less than thepermittedserviceablelimits,cadmiumreplatethe slinger ring assembly inaccordancewiththeCadmiumRe-Platingchapter of the Hartzell PropellerInc.StandardPractices Manual 202A (61-01-02).

(5) For a slinger ring that is notbondedtoaspinner bulkhead:Magneticparticleinspect the slinger ring assemblyinaccordancewith the Magnetic Particle Inspection chapter of Hartzell StandardPracticesManual202A(61-01-02).Cadmiumplatingdoesnotneedtoberemoved.

Arelevantindicationisnotpermitted.

If there is a relevant indication,replacetheslinger ring assembly.

(6) Foraspinnerbulkheadthathasaslingerringbondedtothespinnerbulkhead:Visually examine the spinner bulkheadandtheslingerringfor corrosion or pitting.

Corrosionisnotpermitted.

Themaximumpermitteddepthofpittingis0.003inch (0.08 mm).

(5) Align the mounting holes in the anti-ice bracket 106107 with the mounting holes in the bulkhead.

WARNING: ADHESIVES AND SOLVENTS ARE FLAMMABLE AND TOXIC TO THE SKIN, EYES, AND RESPIRATORY TRACT. SKIN AND EYE PROTECTION ARE REQUIRED. AVOID PROLONGED CONTACT AND BREATHING OF VAPORS. USE SOLVENT RESISTANT GLOVES TO MINIMIZE SKIN CONTACT AND WEAR SAFETY GLASSES FOR EYE PROTECTIOIN. USE IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA AWAY FROM SPARKS AND FLAME. READ AND OBSERVE ALL WARNING LABELS.

(6) Apply Loctite 222 CM21 to the threads of two hex head bolts B-3384-4 and one screw 104789.

(7) Install the two hex head bolts B-3384-4 and two washers B-3837-0432 through the two outer mounting holes in the anti-ice bracket 106107.

(a) Torque the two hex head bolts B-3384-4 to 96 - 120 In-Lbs (10.8 - 13.5 N•m).

(9) Install the screw 104789 from the aft-side of the bulkhead through the inner mounting hole of the anti-ice bracket 106107, then install the washer 106118 and the hex nut B-3808-4.

(a) Torque the hex nut B-3808-4 to 70 - 85 In-Lbs (8.0 - 9.6 N•m).

L. Slinger Ring Replacement for Bulkhead Unit 104744

(1) Remove the travel tube weldment (5020) in accordance with the section, "Travel Tube Weldment Replacement for Anti-Ice Kit 105014 used with Bulkhead Unit 104744" in this manual.

(2) Remove the bracket weldment (10) in accordance with the section, "Bracket Weldment Replacement for Bulkhead Unit 104744" in this manual.

(3) Remove three hex head bolts (20) and three washers (30) from the bulkhead. Refer to Figure 6-8.

CAUTION: DO NOT DAMAGE THE BULKHEAD WHEN REMOVING THE SLINGER RING (5000).

(4) There are multiple methods to separate the slinger ring (5000) from the bulkhead. Hartzell Propeller Inc. recommends the use of a plastic wedge(s) and a rubber mallet.

(b) Using cleaning solvent, CM106 MEK, CM11 Acetone, CM41 Toulene, or CM219 MPK, clean the mounting surface of the new slinger ring assembly (5000).

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE SEALANT CM161 DOES NOT CAUSE A BLOCKAGE TO THE FLUID FLOW HOLES IN THE BULKHEAD FOR THE FOUR SPECIAL STUDS (8) DURING ASSEMBLY. FLUID HOLES MAY BE CLEANED WITH A SOLVENT SOAKED COTTON SWAB OR SIMILAR DEVICE AS NEEDED.

(c) Usingmaskingmaterial,maskthefluidflowholesinthenewslingerringassembly(5000)wherethespecialstudswillbeinstalled.Referto Figure 6-11.

(d) MixthesealantCM161inaccordancewithmanufacturer'sinstructions.

(e) Apply the sealant CM161 to the groove in the new slinger ring assembly(5000).Thesealantshouldslightlyover-fillthegroove.Referto Figure 6-11.

NOTE: Usingasyringeistheeasiestmethodtofillthegrooveinthenew slinger ring assembly (5000).

(f) Puttheslingerringassembly(5000)onthespinnerbulkhead,aligningtheholes in the new slinger ring assembly (5000) with the applicable holes in thespinnerbulkhead.

(g) Apply sealant CM161 to four screws (5240).

(h) Usingscrews(5240)andwashers(5250),attachthenewslingerringassembly(5000)tothespinnerbulkhead.Handtightenbutdonottorqueat this time. Refer to Figure 6-10.

(i) Removethemaskingmaterialfromtheholesforthespecialstud(5100)inthe slinger ring assembly (5000).

(j) Installthewasher(5080)oneachofthefourspecialstuds(5100).RefertoFigure 6-10.

(k) ApplysealantCM161tothethreadsofthefourspecialstuds(5100).Referto Figure 6-10.

(l) Installthefourspecialstuds(5100)withthewashers(5080)throughthethreadedholesinthespinnerbulkheadandintotheslingerring assembly (5000). Refer to Figure 6-10.

(m) Usinganalternatingsequence,torqueeachspecialstud(5100)to 81-99 In-Lbs (9.1-11.2 N•m).

(n) Usinganalternatingsequence,torqueeachscrew(5240)to15-20In-Lbs (1.7-2.2 N•m).

(p) Usingaglovedfingeroraclothdampenedwithanapprovedsolvent,cleanandsmoothanyexcesssealantthatsqueezedoutfromaroundthescrews(5240),specialstuds(5100),orbetweenIDorODoftheslingerringassembly(5000)andthespinnerbulkhead.

(q) Removethemaskingmaterialfromthefluidflowholesintheslingerringassembly (5000).

(r) Inspectthefluidholesandifrequired,useacottonswabdampenedwithsolventtocleanremoveexcesssealantthatmayblocktheflowofthe anti-icingfluid.

(s) Permitthesealanttodryfor6to8hours.Thespinnerbulkhead/slingerringassemblymaybehandledwithcareafter2hours.

(3) Installandalignthefeedtube(5020)inaccordancewithHartzellPropellerInc.Propeller Ice Protection System Manual 180 (30-61-80).

N. Replacement of Rivets

CAUTION 1: DO NOT MAKE THE HOLE OVERSIZE WHEN DRILLING OUT THE RIVET.

CAUTION 2: WHEN REPLACING RIVETS IN THE 106107 ANTI-ICE BRACKET, DO NOT DRILL OUT BOTH RIVETS AT THE SAME TIME. REPLACE ONE RIVET AT A TIME TO PREVENT DEFORMATION OF THE BRACKET.

O. SlipRingModificationandInterchangeability

(1) A slip ring assembly that is used on an application with synchrophasing requirements requires holes for installation of a synchrophaser target. Refer to Table6-2fortheoriginalconfigurationofaslipringassembly.

(2) Except for the synchrophaser target and/or the hole(s) for installation of a synchrophaser target, one slip ring of the same base part number may be identical to another slip ring assembly.

(3) A slip ring assembly with holes for a synchrophaser target may be used on an application without synchrophasing requirements when the synchrophaser target is removed.

(4) A slip ring assembly without holes for a synchrophaser target or with a different holepatternforsynchrophasertarget(s)maybemodifiedinaccordancewithTable 6-3.

(a) Modifytheslipringassemblyinaccordancewiththeinstructionsspecifiedin Table 6-3.

(b) Aslipringassemblymodifiedinaccordancewiththeinstructionsin Table6-3isanalternateforslipringassembliesasspecifiedin Table 6-4.

(5) SlipRingModification

(a) Refer to Table 6-3 to determine the applicable Slip Ring Assembly ModificationInstruction.

CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT THE DRILLED HOLE TO CONTACT THE COPPER SLIP RING.

(b) Drillasynchrophasertargetholeinthelocation(s)specified:

1 Using a #50 drill bit, drill a hole 0.070 inch (1.77 mm) in diameter to a maximum depth of 0.166 inch (4.22 mm).

2 Using a 2-56 UNC-2B tap, tap the hole to a maximum depth of 0.135 inch (3.43 mm) with a minimum full thread depth of 0.100 inch (2.54 mm).

(c) Chamferthehole45+/-5degreestoadiameterof0.093-0.113inch(2.36 - 2.87 mm).

(d) If copper from the copper ring is exposed in a hole, a synchrophaser target may not be installed in that hole.

1 If copper from the copper ring is exposed and another hole can be used for installation of the synchrophaser target, plug the unused holethathasexposedcopperusingadhesiveCM93-1RTV123orequivalent.

2 If copper from the copper ring is exposed and another hole cannot be used for installation of the synchrophaser target, replace the slip ring assembly. The slip ring assembly is not serviceable.

(e) Afterslipringmodification,useanohmmetertomeasurethecontinuityin accordance with the De-ice Slip Ring Assembly Insulation Resistance Checks in the Check chapter of this manual.

(6) Stampingof"MOD"ontheModifiedSlipRingAssembly

(a) Usingaroundbottomimpressionstamp,stamptheapplicablemodificationconfigurationimmediatelyfollowingtheslipringpartnumberinaccordancewithSlipRingAssemblyModificationInstructions.

Example:A4H1964-3slipringassemblyisrequired.A4H1964-2isavailable.The4H1964-2ismodifiedinaccordancewiththeinstructionsspecifiedinTable6-3.Installationofthesynchrophaser target and stamping MOD at the end of the aprt number,4H1964-2MOD,permitstheslipringassemblytobeusedasanalternateforthe4H1964-3.

(b) Stamping "MOD" on a slip ring assembly when the synchrophaser target is removed is not required. Refer to Table 6-4 for the slip ring assembly alternates.

P. Installation of a Synchrophaser Target

(1) Install a synchrophaser target.

(a) Location for installation of the synchrophaser target

1 Refer to Figure 6-15 for the location of the synchrophaser target for Hartzell Propeller Inc. slip ring assemblies 4(E,H)1555-(2,3).

2 The location of the synchrophaser target(s) for other Hartzell PropellerInc.slipringassembliesisspecifiedintheaircraftTCorSTC holder's ICA.

(b) For Hartzell Propeller Inc. slip ring assemblies use the synchrophaser target 2H1377.

WARNING: ADHESIVES AND SOLVENTS ARE FLAMMABLE AND TOXIC TO THESKIN,EYES,ANDRESPIRATORYTRACT.SKINANDEYEPROTECTION ARE REQUIRED. AVOID PROLONGED CONTACT AND BREATHING OF VAPORS. USE SOLVENT RESISTANT GLOVESTOMINIMIZESKINCONTACTANDWEARSAFETYGLASSES FOR EYE PROTECTION. USE IN A WELL VENTILATED AREAAWAYFROMSPARKSANDFLAME.READANDOBSERVEALL WARNING LABELS.

(c) Apply adhesive CM74 on the threads of the synchrophaser target.

(d) Install the synchrophaser target in the slip ring assembly. The synchrophasertargetmustsitfirmlyagainsttheslipringassemblyafterinstallation.

(e) Tighten the synchrophaser target until snug.

(f) PermitadhesiveCM74todrybeforeflight.
