- A sub heading is a heading given to a subsection of a piece of writing.

- A conjunction is a word which is used to join two sentences together.

- A fact is information which can be proved to be true.- Technical vocabulary is formal and subject specific to the

topic of the text. E.g. A text about light would include: transparent, opaque, reflective.

Controlled Practice

**Similar to the previous examples subheadings are commonly questions. For the second half of the Stonehenge information text write 4 possible subheadings (One for each section).

Make sure you read the text first. As the subheading should tell the reader what that section will be about.

Can you collect technical vocabulary which you could use in your text about Ancient Egypt?

Technical Vocabulary

You are planning a fact file all about Ancient Egypt! Remind yourself of all of the work that we did about Ancient Egypt. What facts can you remember? Your fact file will have a heading, 5 subheadings and a paragraph of information under each heading.

Have a look back at the features you found in the first lesson and try to include features you identified to help you make your fact file effective.

Below are many facts about Ancient Egypt. Your job is to select the facts you would like to use in your fact file.

The 5 sections of your fact file will be about:

- What they wore- Where they lived- What they ate and drank- The jobs they had- The pyramids in Ancient Egypt

You need to think of a heading for your fact file. You could use ‘All about Ancient Egypt’. Then you must think of 5 subheadings which relates to the section. For example, the section about their clothing could be called ‘What did they wear?’ *The facts in your plan only need to be bullet points.

Today you are going to write a fact file about Ancient Egypt.

Re-read the examples from the first lesson to remind yourself what a good one looks like, use your work from the word class lesson, gathering language lesson and your plan yesterday.

Start by writing out your checklist so that you have something to tick at the end to check you’ve included everything that you thought would make your writing effective.
