How To Fit ChapsWell fitting riding gear is essential for acomfortable ride, and that includes howchaps fit. For the most accurate fit, youshould wear the jeans and boots you plan towear while riding. Chaps fit best over snugfitting jeans. To reduce gaps, bunching orpinching, chaps should also fit somewhatsnug. They should not be loose or baggy inthe thigh area, but still be comfortable andallow for easy movement.

When worn properly, the waistband of thechaps should sit approximately 1 inch belowthe waistband of the rider’s pant. To fit thelength, be sure you are wearing ridingboots. Chaps should be long enough to justreach the boot heel when sitting. Mark thechaps at the correct length; then, using asharp scissors, cut to length. Since leatherdoes not fray, they do not need to behemmed.

Choosing the Correct Chap LengthChap inseams run about 2" shorter thanstandard pant inseams. Plus, chaps are alsocuttable up to 6" for a truly custom fit. So,a 34" pant inseam would require a Regularlength chap with ability to furthercustomize the length by cutting the hem.
