You’ll find real satisfaction in provid-ing lasting support for the programs andgroups you choose, while passing alongyour philanthropic values to your childrenand grandchildren, bringing our heritage tothe future.
Charitable gift annuities let you make a giftnow, enjoy key tax advantages and receiveincome for the rest of your life, guaranteed. It’s a sensible way to support the causesthat are important to you.
Gain Tax Benefits
A charitable gift annuity also delivers key taxadvantages. Most donors qualify for animmediate tax deduction when the gift ismade. The assets you donate won’t be sub-ject to estate taxes or probate, and you mayreduce capital gains taxes. Part of every pay-ment you receive is “return of principal,” soyou will not owe income tax on that portion.
The Charitable Gift Annuityat Work
Meet Mrs. Donor. Mrs. Donor, 75, has alwaysdreamed of supporting Jewish education. She’s held stock for years that is now worth$25,000. She is receiving dividends of only2% and would like more income. If she sellsthe stock, she will owe a significant capitalgains tax.
Instead, Mrs. Donor gives her stock to theJewish Community Foundation to create acharitable gift annuity. She takes a taxdeduction for the gift in the year it is made.
The Foundation agrees to pay Mrs. Donor$1,775 a year for the rest of her life – a 7.1%return. After her death, the Foundation willuse the remainder to support Mrs. Donor’sdream.

NCharitable Gift Annuities
A charitable gift annuity is a straightforwardagreement between you and the Foundation. You make a gift of $10,000 or more, and weagree to pay you a fixed income for the restof your life. When the annuity ends, the prin-cipal passes to the Foundation to support ourgrants program, the Milwaukee JewishFederation’s annual campaign or the endow-ment fund of one of your favorite agencies.
Here’s how it works:
1. You make a gift of $10,000 or more in cash or appreciated stock.
2. Depending on your tax status, you take an immediate charitable deduction to reduce your income tax.
3. The Foundation gives you an annuity contract, agreeing to pay you a fixed amount for the rest of your life, or the lives of you and your spouse starting at age 65.
4. The income you earn is based on your age at the time of your gift, and it’s typically a very competitive rate of return.
5. After your death, the principal passes to theFoundation to support our grants program orthe endowment fund you’ve specified.
