Youth Action Day 2014. The Confirmation Group and older youth offer their energy and muscle to older parishioners on Youth Action Day, Thursday 10th April 2014. This is a day of service: free of charge they will clear weeds, mow lawns, prune shrubs, paint fences, and do any other odd jobs that may be too heavy or difficult for you to do alone. They come with energy and enthusiasm, they will be well briefed for the day, and all you need to do to book them is fill in the blue Youth Action Day form available after all Masses.

Celebrating our wonderful schools CONGRATULATIONS to the staff and pupils of St Anne Line Junior School. The recent Ofsted inspection graded the school as Good, with many, many Outstanding Features. Comments included, “Behaviour is outstanding.” “Pupils make rapid progress, and have very positive attitudes to learning.” “All pupils are encouraged to be aspirational.” “Pupils are interested and involved.” “There is close liaison with parents.” “Spiritual, moral, social & cultural development is a strength of the school.”

The De La Salle School Chapel was recently blessed, with the sanctuary area now covered with a wonderful mosaic created by the pupils with expert guidance from a mosaic artist. It looks magnificent, and weekly Masses will begin in the school after Easter.

St Teresa’s School are creating a school orchestra … with a little help from a professional! James Rhodes, a superb classical musician, is leading a project which will mean every child in Year 5 has tuition and support to learn an instrument, with a legacy to continue this in future years. Backed by Channel 4, some of the work is being filmed and a documentary is planned for the autumn. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our children to get first class musical tuition and our school was chosen from hundreds nationally who applied to be part of this project. We look forward to hearing the results … St Anne Line Infant School recently completed the “Section 48” inspection, which looks at RE provision in the school. The inspector said she “could find nothing at all to improve” and the school is “Outstanding.” This is the highest possible praise, and well deserved by staff and pupils alike – congratulations.

Continuing on Fridays throughout Lent, there are the following highlights:

6.45am, Holy Trinity, Commuters’ and Students’ Mass.

9.30am, St Basil’s, Stations of the Cross.

9.30am, St Therese of Lisieux, Mass followed by Stations of the Cross (10am).

7.00pm, Holy Trinity, Reflective Stations of the Cross. On Friday 4th April, led by Adam O’Brien and our young adults, on Friday 11th April led by Sr Margaret and the prayer group. Come and be inspired by reflective and insightful interpretations of the Stations of the Cross.

Fourth and Fifth week in Lent – prayerful highlights

On TUESDAYS the short season of films continues, with “The Help” on Tuesday 1st April. This is a very powerful film exploring issues of dignity, justice, race, and tremendous courage. It is funny, deeply moving, and is based on a New York Times bestselling novel. On 8th April “The King’s Speech” is a poignant comedy starring Colin Firth, which won four academy awards and seven BAFTAs. It tackles themes of confidence, self-belief, and hope. We hope that watching these films in Lent gives new insights into the Gospels, and Lenten themes. On Tuesdays there is Mass at 6.45pm and the film begins at 7.30pm. On 15th April, the Tuesday of Holy Week, our final film is the extraordinary & gripping account of faith, “Of Gods and Men.”

Mass with Anointing (“Healing Mass”) and Buffet Lunch – NEXT Saturday, 5th April, in Holy Trinity. Mass will begin at 12.15pm and will include the Sacrament of anointing, open to all. A special effort is made to bring those who find it hard to travel to Mass. If you need transport or can offer transport please either speak to your PA or telephone John Bourke on 01268 729865. After Mass a buffet lunch will be provided in the hall.

Reconciliation Services: THIS Wednesday, 2nd April, 7.00pm St Basil’s and NEXT Wednesday, 9th April, 7.00pm Holy Trinity. Following the new format that Fr Brett and Fr Dominic preached about last weekend, we encourage you to come and experience God’s wonderful grace and mercy in a gentle, peaceful and prayerful way. “All our faults are like a single grain of sand compared to the vast mountain of God’s mercy.” (St John Vianney).
