Happy Christmas to all the pupils and parents of Rugby...
Transcript of Happy Christmas to all the pupils and parents of Rugby...
Last term all students wrote a text with the title
Footprints and gave them to Miss Ross. Out of
all the students three were chosen to be sent
into a competition in London. The winners were
Rida Ahmed, Jack Pearson and Abigail Faulk-
ner. Their work appears later in the Newsletter.
Well done guys.
Happy Christmas to all the pupils
and parents of Rugby Free Second-
ary School. I am already looking
forward to seeing you all in January
and continuing our journey. You
are all amazing!
On Thursday December 8th RFSS held its first Christmas
Disco in the school hall.
The hall was decorated with hanging snowflakes, pa-
per chains and other pretty decorations and they sep-
arated the dance floor from the seating area.
In the foyer there were refreshments that you could
buy like crisps, sweets and drinks
There was a DJ who was great because he played
the songs that we like.
“I liked it when the DJ played shout out to my ex” -
Helena Ball
“I liked the boys and girls dance off the best.” Iwan
Harrison.
“I thought it was funny when the teachers danced
with us” Julia Zak.
Overall it was great and we look forward to other
nights like this.
Let Me See
Slow down and let me see
I have so many things to
Learn from you
So teach me
Every child needs parents’ foot prints to
guide them as they grow
So give me your guidance, walk along
With me let me see
As I grow up I
Will pass on to my children
What you teach me
So slow down
And let me
See.

Footprints by Jack Pearson
I want to walk
with you,
I want our footprints
along the ocean shore.
I want you to
look at me the way I look at you.
Except that just like those footprints
your love for me has disappeared.
The Cruel Sea
Every night at the same time
Memories are lost
Where her parents lie.
The ocean seems so beautiful
Glistening like an amethyst in the moonlight,
But it is a force to be reckoned with…
A little girl with memories
That are broken and fragmented
Leaves footprints in the sand.
She is searching for her loved ones
Who were lost underneath
The Iron Sea.
She looks out with hope
That they will return
But,
The footprints have faded and are no more.

The fantastic prizes on offer are:
An Arvon creative writing residential
course for the winners and three of their
friends plus the teacher.
Publication in a professional anthology.
A special awards ceremony for all shortlist-
ed writers, their schools and the public at
a prestigious London venue.
We wish all three students good luck.
On Tuesday evening the students at RFSS held a con-
cert to showcase their talent. There were a range of
different musical skills varying from vocal solos to
7SM’s amazing take on a samba parade! From choirs
to drama we had it all in store to entertain the par-
ents.
It all kicked off with 7SM’s Samba. As they paraded
around the hall, they bought a new side to school
life. They used lots of different instruments including:
Shaker, Repinicay, Sudo, Ago-go bells and tambou-
rines. They started in the main reception area and
paraded through the hall and onto the stage where
they then had some solo moments for the students to
show what they have learnt throughout their music
curriculum lessons.
The choir performed twice in the concert. They sang
Winter Wonderland, Rockin’ around the Christmas
Tree, Titanium, True Colours, Have Yourself A Merry
Little Christmas and Heroes. They absolutely killed it
with their amazing voices. I think everyone in the au-
dience would agree with that as well.
After that a group from 7EH performed ad they also
did amazing with a drumming piece that they had
been practising in lessons. All of you that know Taylor
Adams, you will know that she can sing like an angel
and that is exactly what she did and stunned all of us
from the audience.
We also had a mix of instruments that played in the
Orchestra, Woodwind and the String Ensemble. We
had the guitar, violin, saxophone, clarinet, xylophone
they did amazingly well.
The Drama Club performed the most amazing ver-
sion of The Nutcracker that I have ever seen.
If you were not able to come you really should try
and come next time because it was the best way to
welcome Christmas at RFSS that we could have
done!!!!
We asked Charlotte Bowers a bunch of questions and
these were her answers
When you are older which of the teachers that work
at our school do you think you will be most like and
why?
“Miss Ross because she is a really down to earth per-
son and she is very expressive and even when you
are doing essays she still makes it fun.”
If all the teachers left and put you in charge for the
day what would be the first thing you would do?
“Order pizza for everyone and make a swimming
pool and a Jacuzzi.”
If someone came up to you and asked you move
school would you and why?
No I wouldn’t move school because it is exciting to
be a part of something new.
If you could change anything about the school
lunches, what would it be?
I would make them bigger.
If the school said they needed one more subject to
be added to the curriculum, what would it be and
who would teach it?
It would be vets and taking care of animals and eve-
ryone would teach it
If you could change one thing about how the school
decorated for Christmas what would be?
I would get fake snow and put it every where!

Fun things we have done in the past two weeks
We have interviewed Romans in 7EH and he said
that he liked playing in the orchestra. He also
said that he liked doing PE. He also liked learning
in all curriculum lessons. Then he also said that he
enjoyed playing the guitar.
After that we interviewed Timothy Robson from
7MS/WW. He said that he liked the disco be-
cause it was cool. He also said that he liked
Maths and algebra was a jam. He also said that
music was fun because he was with Iwan Harri-
son and they apparently did the opposite things.
He also said that he liked doing paper chains
during the English period.
After that we also interviewed Mrs Green (our
head teacher) and she told us that she liked see-
ing people creating new friendships with others.
She also said that it feels like being a family forev-
er instead of being a family for 10 weeks. She also
said that students and teachers are different in
many ways (which was a good thing according
to her). She also said that we have systems not
detentions.
Finally, we had interviewed Max from class 7SM
and he said he is enjoying all areas of school, es-
pecially PE. He also likes preparing for football
matches and doing general school stuff. He also
said that the teachers were all nice and the dis-
co was the best part.

On the 6th December 2016, the school netball team
had a match against Harris. Harris won 7-2 and it was
an unlucky loss. One of the netball league.
We asked Maya Taylor in 7SM what her thoughts on
the game were, ‘‘It was hard and challenging, we
had to be really focused. There was one point in the
game we knew it was over, but we did our best and
that’s all that matters.’’
On the 8th December 2016, the football team had a
tournament at Rugby town Butline Road. The team was :
Danny, Craig, Owen, Josh, Joe, Cameron, Godwin,
Max, Ekijah and the manager, Mr Clancy. There were 9
teams in the tournament (including our team) and the
end results were dreadful, 1 win and 8 losses.
We interviewed Craig Muranganwa in 7EH and these
were his words, ‘Our team played well, but not well
enough, we need to work on our shooting and pass-
ing.’’
On Friday 9th December, chosen stu-
dents did a sky sports activity. Former
world indoor 400m champion. Daniel
Caines a two, time Olympic athlete
performed in Athens and Sydney.
Pupils completed lots of challenges
and listened to Daniel’s stories. Mr
Clancy said “Amazing day with an
amazing athlete! Daniel inspired stu-
dents and told lots of funny stories.”
Taylor Adams said “He was really inspir-
ing,” and Max Hart said “He was amaz-
ing when he told us that he got ran
over by a lorry and he inspired me be-
cause he still carried on.”
In the swimming team we came 3rd in the

and everybody said how well they did. Mr
Clancy said how proud he was (very proud).
Member of the team Ella Parkin said “It was
really exciting and I’d love to do it again.”
Anna Kessel said “It was really fun and I’d like
to do it again.” Julia Ignaczewska said “It
was a fantastic experience and although we
didn't get first it was a pleasure to be there.”
