Our island inspired event was truly a

tropical bash. Dressing up in colorful

Hawaiian printed clothing was only

half the fun. Staff were able to sit

back, relax, listen to lively tunes, and

eat delicious food. Grass skirts and

reggae music added to the tropical vibe.

Employees expressed it was an escape

CONGRATULATIONSBRENDA!

Munster Med-Inn has proudly been participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s for many years now. Last year the facility was able to earn first place for the most walkers and third place in Lake County for the most money raised. This year, however, the families of the facility along with the staff have decided they did not want to be third place. With this year’s theme “Stepping to the Heart of the Matter,” they have set their goal at $11,000, reaching for first place. Currently we have raised so far $7,725.39. They have more than thirteen families registered to represent Munster Med-Inn’s Memory Care Unit at the walk totaling nearly forty walkers participating this year. The families and staff from the Memory Care Unit have worked hard throughout the year doing several fundraisers including selling T-shirts, walking tacos, hot dogs and nachos, popcorn, two bake sales, and reaching out to the community for support from local businesses. Because of these activities and others, they are getting close to reaching their goal.

The Memory Care Unit has a family support group that meets monthly. This month, however, the families came together, making the decision to work as a team to box over 500 individual baked goods of brownies, cookies, cupcakes, peanut butter bars, and cakes of all kinds instead of having the usual meeting. They raised a jaw-dropping $1,200. There were eighteen families that participated in the event whether it was baking or working the event. The families volunteered their time to work the event throughout the entire day on Friday. They also hosted a family night out having hot dogs, popcorn, nachos and baked goods while enjoying a free petting zoo. The residents and their families, as well as families invited from the community, had the opportunity to pet unusual animals such as a hedgehog, snakes, and a chinchilla, but the animal that stole the show was the sloth.

The Memory Care Unit has one more bake sale taking place at the end of August for the final push towards their goal. Wish them luck as they walk on September 23, 2018, to bring awareness for Alzheimer’s and to achieve their goal.

Soon to be mother Shea Rudolph and Beecher Manor staff celebrating the newest addition to our work family. Shea

(Social Services Assistant), has been with the company for 8 years and is not only a hard working woman but a soon to be

phenomenal mother. Our best wishes to you and your growing family.

“Being a mother means that your heart is no longer yours; it wanders wherever your children do.”

Wheaton Care Center is proud to call attention to our wonderful Activity Director, Brenda Carrasco! Brenda started her career at our facility in November 2014 as a part-time receptionist. Brenda began to take on more responsibility when she became an Activity Aide and has excelled in that department due to her creativity and passion for helping people. She continues to advance her career here at Wheaton Care Center. Brenda has just completed her Activity Director Certification and was recently promoted to Director of Activities. We are lucky to have such a dedicated and loyal employee. Thanks for all you do for our residents Brenda!
