Could the 13th year be the unlucky one that brings the company to its knees? Luckily for us here at the Alameda Sun, our 12th year was so smartly done, trisdekaphobia has little hold over our newsroom. It has been our distinct pleasure for nearly a year now, to have a healthy asso- ciation with our sister paper, the MacArthur Metro. Clearly, we should have told you about this by now, so we’ve unveilled information about it in this very edition. Indeed, our company now boasts a combined print circulation of up to 30,500 cop- ies in the East Bay with the help of the Metro. Delivered in beloved neighborhoods of Oakland: The Laurel, Dimond, Fruitvale and more, the Metro has a strong tradi- tion of community activism and getting things done in that big, big city across the Estuary. That little paper packs a lot of punch, and that’s what we like about it. Also big this year for the Alameda Sun was our adjudication. This apparently simple (but expensive) process finally unfolded this past year with the help of Diana Redding at the Law Offices of Lance Russum. Our publication can now accept announcements regarding any and all legal proceedings in Alameda County. I was told it couldn’t be done ... for years. Certainly none of this could be done without my intrepid co-publisher, Dennis Evanosky, the indefatigueably positive Carrie Beavers, Journalist Extraordinaire Ekene Ikeme, and, with me, the longest-standing staff person at the Sun, Calendar Editor, Laurel Yeates. Others will remain nameless at this time, but suffice it to say, there are too many to list. I’d like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Sun’s advertisers, the businesspeo- ple whose storefronts give our town character, the non-profits who save lives and develop our Island culture, our respected professional servicepeople, our restau- rants that offer an incredibly diverse and quality selection. In honor of the Sun’s anniver- sary, enjoy this section that fea- tures some of Alameda’s history along with some of your own. Sincerely, — Eric J. Happy Anniversary, Alameda Sun

Celebrating a dozen years of Alameda news

Completing your 12th year of business is a celebration that comes with a sense of impending doom. Could the 13th year be the unlucky one that brings the company to its knees? Luckily for us here at the Alameda Sun, our 12th year

was so smartly done, trisdekaphobia has little hold over our newsroom.

It has been our distinct pleasure for nearly a year now, to have a healthy asso-ciation with our sister paper, the MacArthur Metro. Clearly, we should have told you about this by now, so we’ve unveilled information about it in this very edition. Indeed, our company now boasts a combined print circulation of up to 30,500 cop-ies in the East Bay with the help of the Metro. Delivered in beloved neighborhoods of Oakland: The Laurel, Dimond, Fruitvale and more, the Metro has a strong tradi-tion of community activism and getting things done in that big, big city across the Estuary.

I’d like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Sun’s advertisers, the businesspeo-ple whose storefronts give our town character, the non-profits who save lives and develop our Island culture, our respected professional servicepeople, our restau-rants that offer an incredibly diverse and quality selection.

In honor of the Sun’s anniver-sary, enjoy this section that fea-tures some of Alameda’s history along with some of your own.

Sincerely,
