PARCC/NJSLA-S 2018 (Field Test) In 2015, New Jersey adopted the Partnership for Assessment of

Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) to replace the NJ ASK assessments in elementary and middle school language arts and mathematics

During the first year of PARCC (Spring 2015), students were tested in March/April on the Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) and in April/May on the End-of-Year Assessment (EOY). Scores were aggregated to include both portions of the assessment. Students are now tested once per year.

PARCC Assessments are computer-based

Students took PARCC in English Language Arts and Literacy (ELA/L) in grades 3-8

Students took PARCC Mathematics Assessments in grades 3-8, and an End-of-Course Assessment in Algebra I for those enrolled

A new Science test was developed for Spring 2018, the NJSLA-S. It is a new computer-based assessment focused on the Next Generation Science Standards. Spring 2018 was a “field test” year for the new assessment.

2018 Testing Highlights Hanover Township students scored above State and Cross-State

in all areas

71.8% of all Hanover Township Students in grades 3-8 Met or Exceeded Expectations on the English Language Arts assessment

61.7% of all Hanover Township Students in grades 3-8 Met or Exceeded Expectations on the Math assessment

Five grade levels showed gains in the English Language Arts assessment

Of the twelve tests taken (Math and Language Arts grades 3-8),

the average score on eleven of them was at the Met Expectations level. The one that missed was just one point under Met Expectations

Page 7: HANOVER TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS...A new Science test was developed for Spring 2018, the NJSLA-S. It is a new computer-based assessment focused on the Next Generation Science Standards.

Grade 4 English Language Arts assessment showed an increase

of nearly 25 percentage points of students moving to the

Exceeded Expectations level compared to their third grade

scores

Grade 8:

Math

100% of students taking the Algebra assessment Met or

Nearly double the amount of students achieved Met or

Exceeded Expectations status versus one year ago, as

Grade 7 students

Over the four-year PARCC period, 28% gain in students

who Met or Exceeded Expectations

English Language Arts Literacy

Over four-year PARCC period, 10% gain in students who

Met or Exceeded Expectations

Also during that time, more than 15% gain in students that
