Basic information……

Rehearsal rooms / times:

Wind Orchestra – Friedberg Concert Hall – 4:15-6:00 PM

Wind Band - JOE BYRD HALL – 4:15-6:00PM

All students enrolled in a Wind Ensemble are expected to attend ALL rehearsals for that

ensemble.

Rehearsal for all ensembles BEGINS at 4:15 PM sharp! Please arrive at least 10 minutes

prior to rehearsal time, so that you are seated and ready to play at 4:15 PM.

Please use the restroom BEFORE or AFTER rehearsal (or during a rehearsal break).

At every rehearsal you should have:

1. Your instrument (in working condition!!!) This includes all accessories for

your instrument.

2. Your music (in your folder)

3. A sharpened pencil

Students are responsible for practicing the music OUTSIDE of rehearsal. It is YOUR

responsibility to know your music (notes, rhythms, etc…) BEFORE the next rehearsal.

No food or drink should enter the rehearsal room. Water is acceptable.

There is Fluidity in the placement of students. Students may be moved up to the next

level of ensemble if the need arises or students may be moved down a level if not meeting

the expectations of their current placement.

We will practice “GOOD REHEARSAL ETIQUETTE!”

Minding your musical manners in rehearsal is very important! We will work as a team

and respect each individual in the rehearsal. Below are some reminders for how to respect your

bandmates, director, and yourself:

1. No talking during rehearsal. Important reminders and directions are given when

you are not playing. It is our job to make sure everyone hears the directions.

2. We will play TOGETHER! Please do not practice your music “out loud” while

other students are working or while directions are being given.

3. Every time we play – we will give 100% focus. Re-playing things due to silly

mistakes wastes rehearsal time! Using good playing posture all of the time is also

important!!!

4. Take every moment of rehearsal to learn something. If another section is working

on music with the director – quietly finger/think through your music and stay

focused so that you are ready when it’s your turn to play.

5. NO FOOD OR DRINK IN REHEARSAL ROOMS!!!! (Water is acceptable)

6. Write important things in your music!!! “Good musicians remember – GREAT

MUSICIANS WRITE IT IN!” Be a great musician.

Attendance

Attendance at all rehearsals is expected, however, emergencies arise and schedules can

conflict. It is our policy (and good etiquette) to notify the director of an absence as soon as

possible.

Email is the preferred method of communication. Use the contact

information on the front of this handbook to contact your director.

Please note:

If the director is not notified of the emergency absence prior to the start of

class/rehearsal, it will be counted as an unexcused absence. Unexcused

absences may result in your dismissal from the program.

School conflicts do not arise the day of a rehearsal. They are not

considered “emergency absences.” Please go through your calendar

ahead of time. These absences should be shared with the director as soon

as you know about them.
