Educational aims and objectives

This course is designed to impart the knowledge and skills required to pass the hand surgery section of the FRCS Orth exam. This will include a comprehensive lecture programme covering the core components and key topics of the exam. Mock clinical exams with invited patients will provide an opportunity to refine examination skills under the guidance of experienced hand surgeons. The viva component will prepare delegates for exam conditions with an opportunity for teaching and feedback.

By the end of the course, delegates will be familiar with:• Key elements of functional anatomy• Degenerative conditions of the hand and wrist• Carpal instability including SLAC and SNAC• Contemporary management of scaphoid and distal radius fractures• Key papers in hand surgery• Common radiological abnormalities seen on x-ray, CT and MRI• Management of soft tissue injuries• Peripheral nerve injury and entrapment
