Well, I saw them many times while returning from school. I always wondered what sort of people boarded that very van. I peeped inside; trying to capture any new thing that I could not grab the last time and hoping to solve an unusual mystery. The van said 'Self-help Group for Cerebral Palsy' and my immature mind had a w r o n g impress ion t h at t h e people in the v a n a r e m e n t a l l y r e t a r d e d and they might plunge on to you if you disturb them. I saw weird people inside, sitting in an

abnormal position which even more scared me.

But now, after I served 2 months as a volunteer there, all the false perceptions have dissolved. I have not only known about the cerebral disorder but also learnt several facts of life. I have not only passed my leisure time there but also

have used it t o l e a r n s o m e t h i n g worthy. I have n o t o n l y t ra n s l ated stories from N e p a l i to English, but

also have extracted inspirational meaning out of them. I not only taught a 16 year

old ABC but also learnt the true meaning of patience.

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a condition in which there is abnormal brain development or injury to the brain as it develops. A child suffering from CP may show delayed activities than other children of same age, have disabilities in motor skills and other daily activities. Cerebral Palsy cannot be cured as it is the permanent damage of certain part of brain but the difficulties can be lowered through many treatments and therapies.

While working there, I have heard many times that parents cry and weep over their fate for having such baby. It's true that no parent expects to have a child with a disability. But for me, being with them is bliss and I enjoy every bit of it. Playing the kitchen set with a group of children where I was served with all kinds of imaginary food was a fun filled experience. The children celebrate even a small achievement and that's when even a toothless smile becomes worth a million. All that the children crave for is love and

affection. Looking at their smiles, I get to visualize their innocence. They are the core sufferers, they are the ones with the disability, yet they don't bother to care about it. They are happy even with a new step they take with a weak leg. They show a great deal of cheerfulness and joy even in simple conversations that I become compelled to think when was I so happy before?

The wide smile that Umesh bears when he speaks in English with someone, the cheerful welcome that Ashok gives, the warm hug that Prashansha lends and the silent innocence that Jenish conveys are all the cherishable things I shall never forget. The love of Kushal towards teachers that he brought selected 'tika' for the teachers amazed me a lot. Well, each of them bears their own charm and the charm does bring a smile in everyone's face.

Before coming here, I was kind of discontented with my life. I didn't like the way I was. But, looking at these innocent faces, I have understood how lucky I am

to have this, well functioning body and a good brain. I have understood that this existence of mine ought not to be wasted and rather be used in helping those unfortunate ones. I have truly learnt the significance of my whole physique and learnt to be happy and satisfied with the perfectly working hands and legs.

I can certainly guess that some cynics reading this must have shifted their interest towards the negative aspects of the disorder. You must be wondering how hard it must be to raise those children, right! It is true that the children do need a lot of help in dressing, feeding, walking, and even toileting. But though they are incapable at one thing, they might excel in another. Many people diagnosed with cerebral palsy became famous because they were focused on what they are able to do instead of what they are unable. We don't have to travel far to search for the example. Jhamak Ghimire was born with cerebral palsy and she struggled a lot in her childhood. But now, using her left foot, she has become a

noted writer and a columnist in a newspaper. She is the second female writer after Parijat to be awarded with Madan Puraskar for her auto-biography “Jiwan Kanda Ki Phul”.

Stephen Hawking too has a motor neuron disease, is almost completely paralyzed and communicates through a speech generating device. Yet, he is a man with brilliant mathematical minds who is able to make complex calculations and come up with amazing theories about every issue.

There are many such examples of people who have overcome their disabilities; 15 million CP affected people worldwide with more than 80,000 CP cases in Nepal. This huge number should by no means be neglected. Rather, new and innovative ideas must sprout so as to yield the most out of them. Vocational trainings and good marketing of the products can help them gain confidence and respect. Constant guidance, support and encouragement must be provided to the person with CP if s/he shows

interests like art, writing, music, science or computer. It is true that they cannot be physically independent; they will need help in some way or the other. But their mental capabilities must be given wings to fly the heights no one has ever imagined of. Instead of grieving over Cerebral Palsy, it must be accepted as a challenge because when life throws you a lemon, you don't sulk, complain or feel sorry for yourself. Instead, you just make lemonade.

Once I went to a doctor to a hospital for a regular check up. I had an appointment with the doctor at 1:00 pm, but due to some reason the appointment was delayed. During that time, since the doctor hadn't arrived at stipulated time, I was roaming around and then I saw some abstract arts on the walls in the waiting room. As I was feeling a little bored I started to observe the arts and then my eyes fell on an article. I thoroughly read the article and it touched my heart. I was moved by the article which was written by an Old Man. I wanted to share that article and express what the Old Man was trying to tell us about our live through his article.

The article was as follows:-

First I was dying to finish my high school and start college,

And then I was dying to finish my college and start working

Then I was dying to marry and have children

And I was dying for my children to grow old enough

So I could go back to workBut then I was dying to retire

And now I am dying ………….

And suddenly I realized I forgot to live.

Please do not let this happen to you,

Appreciate your current situation and enjoy each day.

To make money we lose our health,

And then to restore our health we lose money…

We live as if are never going to die,

And we die as if we never lived…………

The reason why I like this article is

because most of the people are facing this

situation where they are so concerned for

their near and dear that they forget about

their own health and never enjoy life.

Football is arguably the most famous sport in the world. There is not a single person in the world who doesn't know what football is. If football is a religion then it would be the biggest because it unites people. But it is not a big “thing” in Nepal.

Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Liverpool, Bayern Munich etc are some of the most famous clubs in the world. You do not really hear anyone talking about some Nepali clubs, do you? Its because football in Nepal is not as famous in the world. We have some world

class players which I think can play in the top level. Sagar Thapa once scored one of the best goal which was compared to the great Ronaldinho's goal against England. A Nepali player compared to a legend. We need more moments like that to make football in Nepal famous.

Nepalese people are very passionate about football. In any matches which include the Nepal National Team, the Dasrath Rangashala is never empty. They sing the national anthem with pride.

Football is more than life in some

countries. They skip school, work, lunch and dinners just to watch 90 minutes of football, but they do and it is respected by the players. If there is ever a club match of Nepal at the middle of the night then I don't think anyone will watch, but if there is a match between two big clubs of Europe, then nobody's sleeping. On

April 1, 2013 in the final match of the A division league in Nepal, my local club

Three Star won the league after that match. I felt proud of watching that match in Rangashala because I realized that day that Nepalese people play fantastic football. Both the teams played great and that same day I realized that Nepal will surely develop in football. It's a sure thing. May be not next year or the year after that but they will.

A GPS receiver calculates its position by precisely timing the signals sent by GPS satellites high above the Earth. Each satellite continually transmits messages that include - time the message was transmitted, and satellite position at time of message transmission.

The receiver uses the messages it receives to determine the transit time of each message and computes the distance to each satellite using the speed of light. Each of these distances and satellites' locations define a sphere. The receiver is on the surface of each of these spheres when the distances and the satellites' locations are correct. These distances and satellites' locations are used to compute the location of the receiver using the navigation equations. This location is then displayed, perhaps with a moving map display or latitude and longitude with elevation information. Many GPS units

show derived information such as direction and speed, calculated from position changes. For GPS operation, at least four satellites must be visible to obtain an accurate 3D

position (latitude, longitude, and altitude). The more satellites a GPS receiver can see, the better the accuracy. Although four satellites are required for normal operation, fewer apply in special cases. If one variable is already known, a receiver can determine its position using only three satellites visible.

Our ancestors had to go to pretty extreme measures to keep from getting lost. They erected monumental landmarks, laboriously drafted detailed maps and learned to read the stars in the night sky. Things are much, much easier today. For less than $100, you can get a pocket-sized GPS that will tell you exactly where you are on earth at any moment. As long as you have a GPS receiver and a clear view of the sky, you'll never be lost again. In this modern world, GPS technology has been used in different applications for example, navigation of plane, sailing ship, tracking route, developing GIS map features, collecting information, etc.

What is GPS?

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. The GPS is actually a constellation of 27 Earth-orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three extras in case one fails). The system provides critical capabilities to military, civil and commercial users around the worldThe . GPS project was

developed in 1973 for military purposes by US and it became fully operational in 1994. Apart from US, other satellite systems are also in use or under development by different countries particularly from Russian, European and Chinese. Each of these approximately 1,500 kg solar-powered satellites (about 17 feet) circles the earth making two complete rotations every day (traveling at speeds of approximately 11,000 km an hour) in a very precise orbit and transmit signal to earth. GPS satellites are

powered by solar energy and have backup batteries onboard to keep them running in the event of

a solar eclipse. When there is no solar power, small rocket boosters on each satellite keep them flying in the correct path. Each satellite is built to last about 10 years and replacements are constantly being launched into orbit. The orbits are arranged in a way that at any time, anywhere on Earth, there are at least four satellites "visible" in the sky.

-17

“ To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail.”

—Abraham Maslow

Page 21: Hamra pailaharu 70

A GPS receiver's job is to locate four or more of these satellites, figure out the distance to each, and use this information to deduce its own location. This operation is based on a simple mathematical principle called trilateration. In order to make this calculation, the GPS receiver has to know two things: 1) location of at least four satellites above you, and 2) distance between you and each of those satellites

How Accurate is GPS?

In some cases, the Earth's atmosphere slows down the electromagnetic energy, particularly as it goes through the obstructions. The delay varies depending on where you are on Earth, which means it's difficult to accurately calculate the distance. Problems can also occur when radio signals bounce off large objects, such as mountain, high buildings, gorges, terrain, river beds, dense forest, etc giving a receiver the impression that a satellite is farther away than it actually is. On top of all that, satellites sometimes just send out bad data, misreporting their own position. GPS units typically will not work indoors, underwater or underground. In order to help correct these errors, there is a

technique called differential corrections using differential GPS (DGPS). The basic idea is to gauge GPS inaccuracy at a stationary receiver station with a known location. Since the DGPS hardware at the station already knows its own position, it can easily calculate its receiver's inaccuracy. The station then broadcasts a radio signal to all DGPS-equipped receivers in the area, providing signal correction information for that area. In general, access to this correction information makes DGPS receivers much more accurate than ordinary receivers.

Navigation with GPS

Once the receiver makes positional calculation, it can tell you the coordinates (latitude, longitude) and altitude of its current position. To make the navigation more user-friendly, most GPS receivers plug this raw data into map files stored in memory. A standard GPS receiver will not only place you on a map at any particular location, but will also trace your path across a map as you move. If you leave your receiver on, it can stay in constant communication with GPS

satellites to see how your location is changing. With this information and its built-in clock, the receiver can give you

several pieces of valuable information, for example:· How far you've traveled· How long you've been traveling· Current speed and average speed· Trail showing you exactly where you have traveled on the map· The estimated time of arrival at

your destination if you maintain your current speed

Is it just me or does anybody else feels it's kind of unfair that we are far too privileged? (Although I have to admit, my guts would disagree sometimes…) Not in comparison to some overly wealthy people in cover page of Fords magazine but compared to millions and billions of others who don't have access to healthcare; education; let alone nutritious food, they don't get “any” kind of food which then results in widespread infant mortality seen in many parts of Africa and even Nepal.

Putting aside some of the major third world problems, us year 12s including year 13s set off to a small but beautiful town of Dhading

district; in an attempt to make some changes in their learning environment and hoping to make a difference. Dhading project has been a ritual kind of a thing in TBS for us senior

students who will soon be exposed to the “real world”, away from home and prone to catastrophes. So in mid September of 2012, we set off to a 5-day educational trip to Dhading…

As soon as the bus driver started the bus engine and everyone relaxed to their iPods, my mind quickly jumped 6 hours ahead and started visualizing the school we are about to work with and Dhading as a

whole when suddenly; a cold morning breeze interrupted my stream of thoughts as I struggled to wrap my already infected throat with my scarf. After cuddling fast asleep onto my seat, when we finally reached our hotel, we took our luggage to the

rooms, took some time to settle down and followed by our general meeting; we were soon off to our assigned school.

It was a proper school with stretched compound, a couple of one storied blocks and above all, children with wide smiles on their faces. Soon after our arrival, we organized a meeting with the principal and teachers where we basically told them about our intentions and plans for the school and also asked them to state

their priorities so that we could get on with our work as soon as possible. After a stroll around the school (from little of what budget we had), we decided to fix the water system of the school by constructing a new piping system that would provide water from

― Maya Angelou 23

Page 27: Hamra pailaharu 70

the only tap the school had, all the way to the toilets for improving the school's hygiene. Along with that, we

decided to paint 10 rooms (with some wall arts); lay carpets; hang curtains; modify the empty storage room to a library; provide books, racks and posters for the library; provide dustbins; organize litter pick; brief the children about hygiene and keeping the environment clean and create some clubs such as sports club and eco club.

There was a little story behind every plans and ideas that we implemented, and I think that is what made the project so interesting. Like for example when we started with the paintings, getting the lid out of the paint was tougher than getting those

paintings done. And in course of getting the lid out, I found my fingers stuck between the lid and the heavy paint. So in order to get my fingers out, there was a chaos in the room. While some got axe to cut the paint open so my fingers could get out, some tried to use a pencil as a lever. See, small things like these make your journey so much more fascinating.

Away from home to an unknown but friendly place, I found myself adapting to the environment very well. Getting to know more

people, getting them to know you, interacting and finally, making your voice heard. We did go to Dhading to make things matter to the children but what did make a difference to us,

-“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”

― Mark Twain24

were the positive attitudes and welcoming hearts of people. Beloved Dhading has taught me so many good things: not only to be responsible and independent, but it has also encouraged me to try new things and not shy away, but to take every given opportunity as a challenge. It has inspired me to strive towards my goal no matter how far may it seem and like those cheerful children, to smile every chance we get as it motivates not only ourselves, but the people around us as well.

Little of what changes and help we provided made such a big difference in their learning environment. Looking at cheerful faces of the children has motivated me even further to try and solve some

of the extreme third world problems that we talk about every day.

I share with you one of the most memorable project of mine, not to brag about what we accomplished but to make sure you all know that

journey is much sweeter than the outcome itself. So worry not too much about what you accomplish but be concerned about how you do so.

We had been startled thwith the approach of 25

We felt like 25 years just

approaching date of

anniversary there had been

lot of nervousness and

dilemma within us as to

how we would be

celebrating the anniversary

and at what size. We had

finally decided the date of

celebration of the event

and accordingly few of

friends, relatives including Pasa

were invited. We were quite afraid

about possible wild programmes

PDJS might have. So I

kept forbidding the

members not to have any

such programme except

from enjoying the event

to its fullest.

decided to celebrate it on th

Friends and relatives started

arriving for the event. With bit

nervous mood, all were welcomed.

At this point of time, we had no

specific programme in hand.

People gathered and talked with

each other. For sometimes

situation remained like this. Then

PDJS members started arriving for

the programme. We could clearly

see lot of excitement and zeal

amongst the PDJS members

whether the member be Ena, the

youngest one too.

Upon having present

majority of PDJS members, the

members stepped in and took

control of the situation for almost

one and hour with different

programmes from crowing us to

photo session. Humor was another

contributing factor during the

programme. There had been

different environment altogether

we never thought off. Every invitee

was quite thrilled and enjoyed a

lot. This can be attributed by their

facial expression. We revalidated

this while going through the Video

of the event. Furthermore, we also

received lot of positive comments

about PDJS from other friends and

relatives who were present in the

event. They were actually amazed

with the level of organization and

proactiveness PDJS members have. Sabita & myself would like to

express our sincere Thank You to

for making the event such a big

success and hit. We would like to

wish PDJS keep rocking this way in

many years to come. We value and

With a vision of individual social stewardship in society, The Art of Living is an educational and humanitarian NGO, present in 152 countries and reaching an estimated 300 million people worldwide.

Founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 1981, the organization works in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. The Art of Living formulates and implements lasting solutions to conflicts and issues faced by individuals, communities and nations through various social service and spiritual initiatives. At the core of these unique programs is the Sudarshan Kriya, a powerful revitalizing breathing technique, gifted to the world by Sri Sri. This technique, taught in Art of Living programs, has benefited people of all traditions, religions and walks of life, including slums, schools, universities, churches, governments, businesses, prisons and war zones.

“The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.”

― Oprah Winfrey

Follow Your Dream...

Trouble arrives in measures,

and we stack it up real high,

until we're convinced,

we have no reason to try.

If you feel defeated,

you're absolutely wrong,

for if you follow your dream,

you could never lose for long.

Ignore the minor set-backs

that pile up and trouble you,

or you will build a mountain,

out of the stones hurled at you.

The future holds great promise,

your destiny unknown,

but God is always helping,

and you're never alone.

Soar bravely toward your goal.

Let nothing darken the way.

You can change your tomorrow,

if you seek your dream today.

The first day, when I met Pasa Dhukoo

family in the bus leading to Godavari “GREEN

VILLAGE RESORT”, many were new face to me. It was quite awkward at first because we were out on a picnic where more than half were strangers. But we all got along quite fast and I still remember the moments we enjoyed dancing, playing Bingo and other fun games, laughing and getting to know each other. Time actually flied quickly. I didn’t even notice how we all have become so close like a family. Helping each other, sharing feelings, joking these are the things that I especially admire about PASA DJS.

When I couldn’t attend our regular meeting even once, I feel like I missed something very interesting event that I must be a part of it. Each meet makes a new memory and I always want to be involved in it.

The moment when Ayush Shrestha held

“matka” in Shwet Barahi and started dancing holding it makes everyone laugh out loud. Ashish’s shoes is always famous for flying high in the air, even higher than the ball sometimes and it has also got Raju Baa’s heading. He He !! Watching horror movies has always been our best time pass

and to mention a fact, we watched 4 horror movies back to back in a single night (though I watched with my eyes closed). Playing Dumsaraj (Dumb sarates) has become national game of Pasa Saa and each time we play, we burst out into laughter like we never did before.

Raju Baa, Mala Maa and Padip Uncle, Sabita Aunt’s Marriage Anniversary also were the best events we ever organized and we enjoyed every bit of it. The Chitwan Trip, Pokhara Trip, Water kingdom, Annual AGM, all have made a separate location in my memory that shall never be deleted. There must be hundreds of such memories that can’t be expressed in this article. And I believe many new memories are yet to be created.

This year some Pasa DJS members are going abroad. We will surely feel your absence. But I believe distance never shall be a barrier in flourishing Pasa DJS.

The childhood friendship of our uncles has made it up to today and it will forever.

Thank You Pasa Dhukoo, Jaa and Saa.

My Feelings....

Urja Newa

People do make their headway abroad for further studies after completion of Plus Two. We also followed the same trail by deciding to make our way to Dali University, China for MBBS. We did not know a single thing about Dali when we stepped in to this place. We landed in Dali with much excited mood charged with a clear goal of being a successful doctor in future. We did not know that parting with family and friends is so painful and frustrating. We suffered severe homesick and loneliness in initial three to four months. Lot of tear drained down during the period. Just to keep our crying mind intact we used to spend lot of money in Jumblo Account to call mom and daddy. In addition to this, so-called friends around us were so cunning that we could hardly adjust and cope with the situation. We used to feel that we were yet to learn lot many tricks of the life and at times felt that we had not known life. With the feeling and emotion, we had no choice but to pursue our studies.

We know that life should move on and should not stop at any point. When

one of us fell sick we used to miss warm love from mom and daddy and used to literally weep for hours. Because of these, we could not focus on studies in initial days and thereby our marks were not so good.

After completion of two years' stay in Dali, we felt that we finally settled here with lot of confidence in us. Now, we can visit places alone and get our things done by ourselves. We can cope with the situation and feel that we have finally come out of the shell. We can judge the people around us and adjust our steps accordingly. In summary, we have known life and can drive our l i fe independently. With this achievement in hand, lot of positivity came our way delighting our life. We can clearly feel that our zeal keep multiplying with passing days. All these positivity started reflecting in our academics on year-on-year basis.

In conclusion the experience of studying abroad allowed us to develop a broader perspective and independency within us though we had to pass by lot of ups and downs in initial days. It helped us to become well-rounded, objective thinkers and goal oriented.

Exams are very tiring, for both parents and children but is there a need for the parents to become so tensed? So involved are parents with their children's exams that it seems like it is the parents who rather than the children need psychological help.

There are parents who run from pillar to post arranging for tuitions, borrowing notes, getting previous exam papers, important questions and so on for their children if they cannot personally guide their children in major subjects. Some of these anxieties are justified but are the emotional blackmails, sibling comparisons that parents indulge in justified? Do parents even stop to think of the plight of the children?

If parents could devote more time to their children as a daily habit and not as an annual feature, children could be better off during exams. Sometimes parents have such unreasonable expectations from children that it is beyond their

capacity to fulfill them. After all, not every child can stand first in the class; neither can a single child get the highest marks in every subject. This leaves us thinking if our elders actually realize that so much of pressure both at school and at home can cause a mental breakdown.

Moreover, if the curriculum is a little less text-oriented and if we are taught how to analyze a particular idea for ourselves, maybe we can think for ourselves. But parents think that reading books other than those related to the syllabus is a waste of time. Evan a well-deserved break after hours of pouring into books is unwarranted.

So, this is my plea to parents- We are also humans, we have potentials, we can also be responsible.

Give us a chance!

Ruchee Shrestha

A small incident teaches

you so much about life. One can

get several teachings throughout

their life. One of such incident

happened to me.

A pregnant stray dog came

lurking before our doorstep.

Within some days, it made hole in

the pile of mud and gave birth to

five puppies. During my board

exam, one of the puppies became

extremely sick. The cause was

some fool kept it in the basket of

old scooter. It neither could

stand nor sit in the basket. The

poor puppy balanced its body for

whole day starving. When it was

rescued in the evening, it

couldn't stand on its own feet.

The energy it used for balancing

on the basket knocked it off from

consciousness. With its trembling

feet, it couldn't compete with its

four brothers for mother's milk.

Darwin's theory learnt years ago

came into my mind, “Struggle for

own existence”.

I vowed with myself to

take care of poor life right after

my board exam. I even thought to

share my one slice of bread with

it every morning. Its condition

became worse when it mother

refused to feed only that poor

puppy. The only assumption I

could make for such behavior :

May be the mother felt death

coming near and instead feed

other its part of milk. It may fight

with it brothers but not with its

Dear Chhori Pritishma,

Greetings from Nepal!!!

How are you? I hope you are fine and struggling there for the best education and better life. We are also very fine here with the blessing of God.

It's been 4 years that you are away from us and your lovely home country. Your Mum and I are very proud of you because you have been doing better there for Good to Great. Neither we been there nor our ancestor were there but you are doing great. So we hope you will keep continuing it achieve your destination.

Chhori Pritishma, as you know that English proverb “Time and Tide Wait for no Man” so try not to waste your time; uses it as much as you can. In general I hear a lot like “try to manage time” but I totally disagree with this statement because who are we to manage the time? Time cannot be controlled we just try to adjust with time. So we are also trying to adjust with the time having different programmes, events, social gatherings, day to day activities including happiness, unforgettable moments of ups and down and what not. In this connection I would like to share with you the event with Pasa Dhuku, Jaa and Saa where we missed you and Akash. Luckily Akash was with us in some events though not in all. It would have been much better if both of you were here to attend Pasa Dhuku's Annual General

stMeeting (AGM) which is going to held on 1 day of New Year 2070.

I am preparing a presentation of the summary of events and activities during the year 2069, which is going to be delivered in the AGM in the capacity of President of PASA DHUKU for the year 2069. If you have any advice and want to add any personal feelings towards the PASA DHUKU, JAA and SAA, please let me know, I will definitely convey your message to them.

Dear All the member of Pasa Dhuku, Jaa and Saa.

Thank you very much for your strong support, outstanding contributions and active participation in all activities and events during the year 2069. I personally think that each and every member of the group has unique a character and a generous heart. They never compromise anything to make the events of Pasa Dhuku, Jaa and Saaa memorable one. We had number of evidences such as:

Ÿ Night hall in Tent at Water Kingdom with great experience of Shower Dancing and couple dance (I think nobody forgets the feelings expressed by Rabi to his beloved Padma Bhauju “gay dakushya mileju jhijaka chhaya mile majugu” and of course the morning gossiping beside the Highway.

Ÿ Monthly Regular meeting in Balaju, Tribhuban Park, Bajrabarahi, Nilbarahi, residence of Dhuku

and Jaa, including Yomari and momo programme

Ÿ Dashain ko tika programm for all the Saa members at Madan's residence last time.

Ÿ Special invitation “Nakhatya” from Rabi and Padma Bhauju to be present in culture programme performance by Rabi ji as “Paya” which was held in last Dashain. I understood that it happened once in his life time.

Ÿ Token of love appreciations to Saa who completed 12 grades to Akash, Manshre and Sahesa.

thŸ Pradip and Sabita's 25 Marriage Anniversary

Pasa Dhuku, Jaa, and Saa arranged the programme such a way that Pradip and Sabita Bhauju witnessed many surprise programmes during their party. It was really surprised them and other guests as well. I think this was one of the unforgettable moments for Pradip, Sabita Bhauju and their family members. It was just a beginning of involvement for entertainment. I think you all are agreeing with me.

As you all know, we are friends since ONE class. We are still great friends and it will continue forever. We are very proud of being friend of each other. The good thing about this group is that there is no conflict and no misunderstanding among us. Now, you can also guess our age. If we are almost in the same age group, then the event should be within the year or year after. By this saying you may guess that there should be another anniversary or had already celebrated the anniversary.

thYes, Indra and Bina Bhaju's 25 Marriage Anniversary was the first celebration for the group which was took place last year. This year, it was my turn to celebrate.

thŸ Rajendra and Mala 25 Marriage Anniversary

The celebration date was fixed and invitations send to all the member of Pasa Dhuku, Jaa, Saa and other colleague and relatives. Luckily my son Akash was here in Nepal and but unfortunately my chhori Pritishma could not attend the event due to her engagement in University but we had her moral support.

The day of EVENT, it was sunny day - neither

cool nor hot and it was pleasant day. As day began I felt nervous and I had a kind of fear in my mind and was worried that something may go wrong in the party; anxious as to how people will be react? Because I really treated it as my marriage ceremony, I had feeling of nervousness.

At 4:30 most of relative and friends had arrived. My group Pasa Dhuku came with elegant 1980's dress, Jaa with colourful sari with stylist hair and Red Rose as they were 80's heroin. I also felt that they were here for only the party and Saa with fancy dress and charming and enthusiastic mood. When I saw all of them, then I felt comfortable and confident.

I was called to go outside for a moment, I followed them without asking any question because they were the one who made my life easy in the party. It was height of surprise. I could not believe myself but it was true. I saw a car fully decorated and with music (band baja). It was as if I was going to marriage procession as a groom. I had garland and “Nepali Dhaka Topi” then I went back to party venue in a decorated car with all the handsome friends with their beautiful beloved along with lovely kids. It was not only a real surprise to my wife Mala and me but it was also a great surprise to all my relatives other friends. We performed rituals which were supposed to be done in the marriage event.

The best part of the events was that all the kids presented dance performance in the stage like they were professional dancers. Another surprise was that Seven Dhuku member performed couple dance in the stage on song of “Ek mai aur Ek tu”. It was fantastic programme and all credit goes to MY PASA DHUKU, JAA and SAA who made this event an unforgettable one in our life. I believe my wife Mala, you my daughter Pritishma and Akash agree with me.

Ÿ Groups view towards health related Issue We have not forgotten of our good health.

Considering the age ahead, we have started doing exercise together. Most of our members are participating AEROBICS in the morning every day.

Ÿ Special designed Programme:

Last but not the least, we had special trust building programme within the group in the evening. Keeping in the view of security and safety of the all the members at night, the programme was held in residences of group members. (Saa in Iccha's, Jaa in Mala's and Dhuku in Pradip's)

This programme was designed for knowledge and experience sharing within the group. After the programme all the participating member found it very useful and interactive. Especially Saa wishes to have this type of programme twice a year.

Objective: this programme is simply trust building and just for fun but it will help us to clear and clean our mind.

We Pasa Dhuku, Jaa and Saa are committed to provide support to all of us as when required

I certainly have the feeling that 2070 is going to be a fun and favorable year for these groups.

Thank you all once again and I hope you will continue to provide the same support to our new President of Pasa Dhuku 2070.

Thank youPresidentPasa Dhuku 2069

Prtishma, this is what I want to share with you about the group before I deliver the message to them. I hope you are keeping in touch with Akash. Do call him from time to time. He may feel alone so your call may provide him a moral support.

Hope to see you soon.

Mnemonics is the art of memorizing. The use of

mnemonics dates back to 1600 BC in ancient Greece.

Mnemonics is a secret art by which anything can be

memorized. Mnemonics enhances the capability to

memorize more than 10 times than usual if used regularly.

Though prevalent from 1600 BC very few people know

about mnemonics. Now that you know a little about

mnemonics I'll be teaching you how to apply mnemonics.Mnemonics is a vast subject having various branches all

related to techniques of memorizing. But I'll be teaching

only the basic stuffs of mnemonics. Some teachers use

mnemonics but they don't know they are using it. For

example in primary levels of teaching, to make the

students remember the colours of rainbow the teachers

use the contraction VIBGYOR which stands for the seven

colours present in rainbow namely Violet, Indigo, Blue,

Green ,Yellow, Orange and Red.

Now that you know about the contraction

method, let me take you deeper into this wonderful art.

Now the next method I am going to teach you is the most

important technique of mnemonics. This branch of

mnemonics is called association. Through association you

can memorize almost everything. Association is further

branched into many categories but I'll only be teaching

you about the Link method. The Link method is all about

linking things to remember them. This link method is very

useful if you have to remember a large list. I'll give you a

list of things and teach you how to remember it. Ok let's

start with a small list. Given below is a list of fifteen

different things.1) Carpet 2) Paper3) Bottle 4) Bed5) Fish 6) Chair7) Window 8) Telephone

9) Iron-nail 10) Pen11) Television 12) Football13) Spider 14) Car15) Tea-pot

Ok let's get started, shall we? The first thing on

the list is carpet, so just imagine a carpet. The second

thing on the list is paper. Now just associate the paper

with the carpet in your mind. You might think about a

piece of paper in a carpet but believe me, that won't work

because it's too usual. Try to link them in an unusual way.

For example you might imagine a carpet made out of

paper. Human mind has a tendency to remember unusual

thing more than usual thing, so while associating the more

the unusual the more the better. The next thing on the list

is bottle so link the paper with the bottle. You may

imagine a bottle made of paper or any other unusual

association but pick the one that comes to your mind first

as you will have a better chance in recalling them later.

The next thing on the list is bed so link it with the thing

before it, which is the bottle. Just imagine that you are

drinking water from a bed. But remember this is only my

association, you will have to think of your own association

whichever comes to your mind first. Next is fish, so try to

imagine that you are sleeping on a huge fish. Then comes

chair so link it with the fish. You don't have to use my

ideas. Close your eyes and think of an unusual association.

Well if you can't, then I'll help you. It is very simple, just

imagine that a huge fish is sitting on a chair. Next is

window, so just imagine that you are sitting on a window

instead of a chair. Another one on the list is telephone so

just imagine that you are dialling numbers on a window

and calling somebody. After the telephone is iron-nail so

imagine that you are hammering a telephone into a wall

or anything. Next is pen so imagine that you are

-

Mnemonics

Niresh Man Shrestha

“any fool can be happy. It takes a man with real heart to make beauty out of the stuff that

makes us weep.”

47

Page 51: Hamra pailaharu 70

hammering a pen into a wall. After pen we have

television so imagine you are writing with a television

instead of a pen. Next is football, so you may imagine

that you are kicking a television in a football field. Then

comes spider so imagine that you are kicking a huge spider

and scoring a goal. After spider we have car, so just

imagine that a huge spider is driving a car. Now the last

is tea-pot so just imagine that you are driving in a tea-pot

instead of a car.

Now let's see if the Link method really works or

not. Now just fill in the blanks without seeing the above

list and test yourself. The first thing is carpet, so the carpet reminds you of

. The second thing reminds you of . The third thing reminds you of . The fourth thing reminds you of . The fifth thing reminds you of . The sixth thing reminds you of . The seventh thing reminds you of . The eighth thing reminds you of . The ninth thing reminds you of . The tenth thing reminds you of . The eleventh thing reminds you of . The twelfth thing reminds you of . The thirteenth thing reminds you of . The fourteenth thing reminds you of .

I am pretty sure that you got it all correct. You

might be shocked to know that you got it all correct but

what's more shocking is that that you can recall the things

backwards. Just remember the last thing and it will all

come to you. Now you don't need to write down the stuffs

you need while shopping. You can just the link the stuffs

you like you did above and voila! Now the only trouble

you have is to remember the first word. Now if you are

going shopping you can all link the first thing on the list

with the shop? This will help you to recall the first thing. The link method is a wonderful memorizing

technique but it has some limitations. The link method

can only be used in a sequential order either from forward

or backwards. Now if I ask you what's the seventh word

you will start to recall the first word, then the second, then

the third and so on until you get the seventh word. This

would take a lot of time. In this type of situation we can

use the peg method I won't be teaching it right now.

Maybe I'll teach you how to use the peg method in the

next edition of "HAMRO PAHILA HARU” but for now

just be happy with the link method. -

Once a policeman caught a thief and was taking him to jail. On their way to jail, a strong wind blew the policeman's cap. Then the culprit said "Please policeman, you stay here, I'll go get your cap for you"And the policeman wisely replied, "Do you think I am an idiot? You stay here, I'll go to get my cap myself."

Teacher : If A=B and B=C then A=C. Did you all get it.Sundar:: (loudly) Yes ma'am

Teacher : Okay Sundar give me another exampleSundar : I love my teacher, my teacher loves her daughter so I love my teacher's daughter.
