Wednesday Night Suppers Will Resume January 4, 2017

December 26 and January 2 Church Closed We will be closed December 26 and January 2. If you have an emergency you can contact Dr. Stowe on her cell phone at 404-317-3233.

Sunday January 1 Worship Service at 10:00am Sunday, January 1, 2017 start the new year off right with your church family at our 10am worship service. Please feel free to dress comfortably. If you wish you can come sing in the Family Choir; we’ll sing familiar Christmas season hymns. Just sit in the Choir Loft in the sanc-tuary prior to the start of the worship. There will be no Sunday school that Sunday.

Come Consecrate Our New Building with the Bishop January 8 at 11:00am (1 Service Only)

January 8th we will be hosting our new Bishop and we will be consecrating the new building. Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson will be preaching that Sunday as we celebrate 50 years of worshiping at this location.

January 8 - Covered Dish Lunch After Worship Service As we celebrate the consecration of our new building and the 50th Anniversary at this location, we invite you to a covered dish lunch after the worship service. We are providing the fried chicken and dessert. Please bring a salad or vegetable enough for your family times two.

Year-End Giving Reminder Please remember to honor your 2016 pledges. All contributions postmarked on or before 12/31/16 will be credited to this year's giving records. Contributions can be brought to the Church office until noon on Friday 12/30/16.

2017 Offering Envelopes Are Here The 2017 Offering Envelopes have been distributed to the Adult Sunday School classes. If you are not in a Sunday School Class, envelopes will be in in the breezeway. Envelopes for children are with their parents’ envelopes.

Confirmation Classes Begin January 8 All current 5th graders and above-including parents, and grandparents who have not been through Confirmation Class are welcome to attend. Confirmation will give each person a basic knowledge of the Christian story, teach core Methodist beliefs and explore the vows they will take on Confirmation Sunday if they choose to live out their commitment as a professing mem-ber of The United Methodist Church. Classes will be from 9:50 to 10:50 for eight weeks and end on Feb 26 with a Confirmation Ceremony during 11:00 worship. Contact Rev. Winford at lwinford@chambleeumc.org if you or someone in your family plans to attend.

Wednesday Night Supper January 11 - Chili Cook Off The chili cook-off is coming for the Wednesday Night Supper on January 11, 2017. Everyone is encouraged to make their favorite chili to be judged by the panel of experts (the WNS attendees). We will have prizes and awards for the top vote getters. The more we have the better. Please let Joann Gibson know if you are entering the contest at jgibson@chambleeumc.org.

The Chamblee Basketball Season Starts January 7 Basketball Season starts each Saturday at 9am and runs throughout the day for 8 weeks. Some teams will be traveling so not all teams play at home each week. It is always fun to watch the kids and they could use your support cheering them on. Also, we need volunteers to help at the concession stand on Saturdays during the basketball season. Please contact Rev. Winford at the church office or by email (lwinford@chambleeumc.org) if you or your Sunday school class would like to help with concessions.

Gospel Lesson

John 1:1-14 (NRSV) 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7He came as a wit-ness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. 9The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. 12But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.
