Important Health Warning About Playing Video Games
Photosensitive Seizures
A very small percentage of people may experience a seizure whenexposed to certain visual images, including fashing lights or patternsthat may appear in video games. Even people who have no history ofseizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed condition that can causethese photosensitive epileptic seizures while watching video games.
These seizures may have a variety of symptoms, includinglightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking orshaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary lossof awareness. Seizures may also cause loss of consciousness orconvulsions that can lead to injury from falling down or striking nearbyobjects.
Immediately stop playing and consult a doctor if you experience any ofthese symptoms. Parents should watch for or ask their children about theabove symptomschildren and teenagers are more likely than adults toexperience these seizures. The risk of photosensitive epileptic seizuresmay be reduced by taking the following precautions: sit farther from thescreen; use a smaller screen; play in a well-lit room; and do not playwhen you are drowsy or fatigued.
If you or any of your relatives have a history of seizures or epilepsy, consult a doctor before playing.

To: Oce o Naval Intelligence (ONI)
From: Cortana, UNSC Pillar o Autumn shipboard AI
Re: SPARTAN-117 and the Destruction o Halo
Sir. As the rich data-bursts attached in this transmission make clear, we have been
to hell and back. Ill be brie.
Ater Reach ell, I ollowed Cole protocol and slipped the Pillar o Autumn. Usingastronomical symbols Spartan-117 captured rom a Covenant vessel, I chose an
exit-vector that would place us in an uncharted system near a late-lie gas giantplanet (new classication, Threshold). To my considerable surprise, in orbitaround the planet was an articial ring construct, 10,000 kilometers in diameter.
Initially, I eared the ring was a Covenant installation. It was not. But the enemyhad tracked us and was lying in wait around the ring. Rather than risk capture,Captain Keyes ordered my upload into Spartan-117s neural network. While we
abandoned ship, the Captain managed to land theAutumn on the ring, saving thelives o many o the crew.
seCreT Transmission
The Covenant referred to the ring as Halo. It seems a prophecy
about Halos existence is central to our enemys religion, and its
discovery was cause for much celebratory chatter on the Covenant
battle-network.
During our initial operations on the surface of Halo, we encountered
an alien articial intelligence, designation 343 Guilty Spark.
This AI claimed its primary purpose was tactical containment of a
virulent, parasitic life form called The Flood.
Through a connection to Halos deep data cores, I ascertainedthat the ring was built by an ancient race of beings (referred to
by the Covenant as the Forerunners) as a weapon of last resort
against the Flood. A sizable population of Flood was in stasis on
the ring, and the Covenant, either by accident or design, released
the parasite. Not their most brilliant maneuver.
343 Guilty Spark convinced Spartan-117 to activate Halos primary
weapon system and eliminate the Flood. The AI neglected to tell
him however, that because the Flood consumes any suitable sentient
host, Halo would make no distinction between the Flood and other
life forms. In short: if Halo red, it would destroy every thinking
being in the galaxy. Human, Covenant, everything.
masTer Chief
When we realized that Halo could destroy all lie, Spartan-117 and I decided our
only choice was to destroy Halostop 343 Guilty Spark rom completing hisassigned task, and deny the Covenant a weapon o unthinkable power. We used
the Pillar o Autumns usion reactors to start a chain reaction that utterly destroyedthe ring. Im sorry to report that Captain Keyes was lost to the Flood.
With respect to our ongoing ght against the Covenant, our time on Halo was well
spent. I have gathered a wealth o new inormation or our database o Covenantweapons, technology, tactics, and society. Additionally, Spartan-117s procientuse o arms, and the destruction o the ring,
resulted in a signicant loss o enemy personneland materiel.
That being said, I ear that the Covenant will not
take kindly to our obliteration o their holy relic.Having thus struck the hornets nest, we arenow heading home with all speed.
Re: SPARTAN-117
MASTER CHIEF
Spartan-117, the Master Chief, is a
member of the SPARTAN-II project. He
is a genetically, biologically, and
technically enhanced ghting unit,
standing seven feet tall and weighing
half a ton in his armor.
His reexes are unmatched, his
strength and endurance quite unlike any
other human, and his tenacity molded
by a lifetime of conscripted military
training. The Master Chief is procient
in all current ballistic weapons and
tactics, incursion, and unarmed combat
and has extensive experience with
Covenant military tech.

Covenant society is highly segmented, consisting o a conederation o races.
While an overall socio-political review is important or understanding the nuanceso Covenant society, including the role o Prophets, the key or combating our
enemy is to review the Covenant ghting classes which are comprised o Grunts,Jackals, Hunters, Elites, Brutes, Drones, and Prophets.
Elites
Elites are the core o the Covenant military. Excellentsoldiers, brilliant tacticians, and disciplined,
aggressive ghters, they are the primary strengtho the Covenant orce. Faster, stronger, and tougherthan Humans, they ght in relatively small numbers
but oten lead squads o Grunts. Armor color seems
to indicate rank, and we believe Elites are promotedbased on numbers o casualties they inict.
breakdown of known
CovenanT UniTs
Grunts
The basic inantry unit o the Covenant, Gruntsare dangerous in groups but present little threat
individually. Short, stocky, and relatively slow, theywill oten panic when aced with superior orces.
However, i they are being led by an Elite, they willstand and ght.
Jackals
Excellent shots, Jackals seem to be higher in status
i not necessarily rankthan Grunts. They oten willbe ound in deensive positions, ghting rom behindtheir distinctive energy shields. A well-used shield
makes a Jackal a dicult target, but the notch theyuse to return re provides a weak spot that can be
exploited.
Hunters
Hunters are incredibly dangerous oes, deployed
more like equipment than soldiers. They are broughtin or demolition or heavy deense, and always
work in pairs. These massive creatures appear to becomposed o multiple organisms that exist within theHunter armor, creating a bipedal hive creature. Near-
impenetrable armor and a devastating hand-held uelrod weapon make Hunter pairs very problematic.
Brutes
Not as readily understood as Elites, Brutes ghttogether in a pack and are physically stronger. Brutes
demonstrate similar battleeld abilities to Elites, andtheir numbers have demonstrably increased sincethe conict began. They carry a ballistic explosive
weapon with an attached bayonet device.
Drones
Like Brutes, Drones appear to be new additions to
Covenant ghting orces and are being deployeden masse. Apparently insectoid in origin, in addition
to maintaining Covenant spaceships, they havea limited ability to y and are excellent shots.Highly intelligent, their mastery o antigravity
ight assistance has given them an almost
insurmountable strategic advantage in combat.
Prophets
Little intel is available on these creatures. Weknow that they are administrative or religious innature and have little to do with actual battleeld
circumstances. None has ever been killed orcaptured, and they appear to be ew in number.

Because you all will be required to use nonspecialist equipment in these dicultcircumstances, we are issuing you a reresher on the currently available UNSC
arsenal. I you have not used any o these weapons in the eld or in practice, you would do well to amiliarize yoursel with them beore entering a combat

pick up the secondary weapon. Click the let and right mouse buttons, or pull theLet and Right triggers, to re.
S2 AM Sniper Rie
Gas-operated, magazine-ed weapon utilizes
smart-linked scope with two levels omagnication (5X and 10X). Firing 14.5mm
armor-piercing, n-stabilized, discarding-sabotrounds makes it very powerul. Sheer sizeand limited magazine capacity dictate strategic
use. Devastating rom secured position;has clearly limited use as close-range
weapon.
M6C Pistol (Dual Wield)
Standard UNSC sidearm. Recoil-operatedhandgun, ring magazine o six 12.7mmsemi-armor piercing rounds. Fired accurately
in semi-automatic mode, can be powerulanti-personnel weapon. This stripped-down C
variant does not eature scope.
BR55 Rie
Fires 9.5mm rounds rom 36-round magazine.
Mounted with a 2X optical scope or targeting.Fires in short, automatic bursts o 3 rounds. Veryaccurate, relatively high rate o re makes it a
useul all-around inantry weapon.
M7/Caseless Sub Machine Gun(SMG) (Dual Wield)
Bullet hose res sustained burst o 5mm re
rom 60-round magazine. SMGs, while notaccurate over long distances, can provide
withering re at close quarters. Tends to walkupward as compounding momentum rom recoil
takes hold. Thereore, careul moderation o aimrequired to maintain accuracy.
M41 SSR MAV/AW Rocket Launcher
Most commonly used light anti-vehicle weaponin UNSC arsenal. Man-portable, shoulder-red,
with single 2X level o magnication. Fires102mm shaped-charge, high-explosive trackingrockets. Reticle indicator denotes when launcher
has achieved lock on target.
M90 Shotgun
Powerul, loud, pump-action, magazine-ed,
ring 8-gauge magnum (3.5) rounds withstrong recoil. Devastating at close range and in
conned quartersshould be used with caution.Inefective damage ratios at long range mean itshould be used appropriately.

M41 LAAG (Vehicle Mounted)
Three-barreled, electric-powered, linkless drum-
ed, vehicle-mounted light anti-aircrat gun.Standard armament on Warthog. Fires 450550
rounds per minute. Excellent armor penetrationcapability.
Recent events have exposed us to yet more Covenant military technology, much
o it more powerul than previously encountered and used in widely diferingcombat situations. Following is a rough eld guide to currently known Covenant
armaments.
Plasma Pistol (Dual Wield)
Understood better than most Covenantweapons, semi-automatic, directed-energy
weapon. Fires rapid bursts o superheatedplasma, but holding trigger or extended periodcan build powerul overcharged plasma bolt.
Becomes temporarily unusable as it dischargesexcess heat. Both Plasma Pistol and Rie use
power core we dont ully understand.
Plasma Rie (Dual Wield)
Favored by Elites, but used by many Covenant
troops, is a directed energy weapon andcapable o both automatic and semi-automaticre. Extended bursts o automatic re cause
weapon to overheat, temporarily disabling gunand depleting energy core. Once energy core
has completely discharged, it is useless.
Needler (Dual Wield)
Unusual magazine-ed weapon resrazor-sharp crystalline projectiles, using
unexplained homing ability to center on sotorganic targets, to pierce esh no matter
angle o impact. Energy shields deect themsuccessully, and they ricochet rom other hard
suraces. Ammunition explodes ater it impactsesh, causing urther damage.
M68 Gauss Cannon(Vehicle Mounted)
Asynchronous linear-induction motor produces
bipolar magnetic eld to re 25mm projectileat hyper-sonic velocity. Excellent armorpenetration capability, but not as efective
against multiple inantry.

M9 HE-DP Fragmentation Grenade
Basic explosive device has changed little thanks
to excellent design and exibility. Well-throwngrenade will kill or stun most opponents. Fuseactivates hal second ater striking surace or
object to avoid accidental detonation. Also allows
combatants to bounce grenade into dicult-to-reach targets.

Covenant Carbine
Rare Covenant projectile-ring rie, a powerul, stocky weapon, and tted with magniying scope.Fires single rounds with high degree o accuracy
and power. In some ways its technology mimics
Covenant Fuel Rod Gun, although obviously onsmaller scale, but ofers similar penetration toUNSC Battle Rie.
Covenant Energy Sword
Initially thought purely ceremonial. Few havebeen seen in combat, but they are invariably
carried by high-ranking Elites. Do notunderstand how it unctions but cuts throughany armor with ease. Click, or pressB, or
regular melee attack and click right mousebutton, or pull Right trigger, or basic undercut
attack. Or wait until reticle turns red to lock onenemy, then click right mouse button, or pullRight trigger, to perorm atal lunge attack.
Particle Beam Rie
Very precise, powerul weapon, uses relatively
amiliar particle beam acceleration methodto re devastating beam o energy. Limitedbattery capacity means weapon can reonly 18 bursts beore depleting charge.
Integrated scope enables two levels o zoom, approximately 5X and 10X. Makes excellent
sniper weapon.
Brute Shot
Type o grenade launcher used, as ar as we cantell, exclusively by Brutes. Grenades it res rom4-round belt can be deected deliberately or
tactical reasons, such as ring around corners. One o the least precise Covenant weapons
yet encountered, limited ammunition capacityis made up or by huge, razor-sharp bayonetattachment.
Fuel Rod Gun
Launching highly radioactive uel rod
projectiles, weapon is efective against bothvehicles and personnel. Weapon is bulky, heavy
and carries 5 uel rods per clip. Single 2X levelo magnication.
Plasma Grenade
Using unknown technology that canapparently diferentiate between strategic
targets and nonthreatening suraces, thisgrenade, when thrown accurately, adheres to
combatant or vehicle, but not to wall. Three-second use activated as soon as grenadecomes to rest either on ground or stuck to
intended target.

group o riends that ollows the party leader rom game to game.

You can add up to 100 other gamers to your riends list. You can also send a textor voice message to a riend, send a party invite, or remove a riend rom your list.
The Status column shows you who is online, who is in your party, and the currentparty leader.

Individual StrategyWhen you play as an individual player, its important to manage your two diferent
weapons correctly. Try to carry a long-range (such as a Battle Rie) and short-range (such as a Shotgun) weapon. Make sure youve always got a ew grenades.Running backward and throwing grenades is a great deensive move when
another player surprises you on a map. Use dual wielding in tight spaces at short
range and in vehicles when outdoors. Try boarding another players vehicle. Asuccessul boarding ejects another player rom his seat. Move slowly by crouch-walking i you want to stay invisible on other players motion trackers. Also, dontcharge through the ront door. Use a little stealth and planning.
Team StrategySuccessul teams coordinateand communicatewell among members.
Use voice to direct your team. You can access your radio and talk to your team
members no matter where they are on the map. Be careul thoughnearbyenemies can hear you talking as well.
Manage your teams weapon selection. In Team Slayer, put someone on a
Rocket and someone on a Sniper Rie.
Find out what your teammates are good at and let them do it. Who are the best
long-range shooters? Put them on sniping duty.
Stick to your teammates. Dont go of by yoursel unless there is a tacticalreason to do so. Note that there is a marker above your teammates heads to
tell you whether or not theyre on your team.
Know what game type youre playing. Not everyone on your team can bedoing the same thing. They need to take on diferent tactical roles. Someone
needs to stay on deense in Capture the Flagi everyone is on ofense, youwont win.
