HIGHLIGHTS

Sitting on the banks of the River Cray, Hall Place was once the country residence of Sir John Champneys, a successful merchant and former Lord Mayor of London. Today you can imagine genteel life in Tudor times as you explore the 500-year-old historic house or take a stroll in the spectacular gardens. Throughout the year, exciting exhibitions and events make Hall Place the perfect destination for all the family.

Magnificent gardens and plant centreTake a relaxing stroll in our 65-hectare estate. Whatever the season, there is always a spectacular show in our award winning gardens, with the stunning ‘Queens Beasts’ topiary sculptures, and herbaceous borders. Our busy wildlife will always keep you entertained. Watch out for squirrels, wagtails, geese and exotic ring-necked parakeets. In the glasshouse, see the banana trees as well as fish and terrapins in the pond.

Historic HouseDiscover the magnificent panelled Great Hall with Minstrel’s Gallery, the Chapel, Great Chamber and Long Gallery with their decorative plaster ceilings, the Bell Tower and the Tudor Kitchen. Everyone will love getting hands-on with history in the imaginative Tudor discovery gallery.Riverside CaféRelax by the River Cray and enjoy our seasonal menu of light lunches or indulge in delicious cakes and scones. Enjoy Jing teas and speciality coffees, a selection of wines by the glass and local ales. In the warmer months sit and relax on the decking overlooking the weir and River Cray.

Code Name: Sante Fe The secret wartime history of Hall PlaceDiscover how American soldiers stationed at Hall Place - code name Santa Fe - intercepted encoded messages sent by the Germans. GI veterans’ memories and declassified files reveal the importance of their round-the-clock, top-secret work, which helped defeat the Nazis.

Illuminated World - One man’s photographic collection Discover lost worlds through our selection of Victorian and Edwardian lantern slides in our museum collection. All collected by one extraordinary local man called Arthur Boswell. His collection is an A-Z of the globe neatly stored in wooden boxes.

Faces of the Great War: Sidcup and the Pioneers of Plastic SurgeryThousands of First World War soldiers who came back from France with terrible facial injuries were treated in a new, military hospital in Sidcup, Kent.
