MESSAGE FROM THE DEANaloHa,

Welcome to the 2010 Hall of Honor Awards. This year marks the 5th anniversary since launching a new awards program to recognize our alumni Hall of Honor Award recipients.

Over 450 professionals, representing 60 companies, are gathered here tonight, making this one of Hawai‘i’s premier fundraising business events. We owe much of the event’s success to our alumni, friends and Hawai‘i’s business community who continue to support the College year after year.

Tonight, we are honored to have Executive Chairman of the Board of Central Pacific Financial Corp. and Central Pacific Bank, John Dean, as our keynote speaker. John has over 29 years of executive experience in the financial services industry, and eight years of experience as a venture capitalist and investment manager in technology companies.

We are also excited to induct four exceptional alumni into the Hall of Honor: Stephen Chamberlin, chairman of Chamberlin Associates and Rouse/Chamberlin Homes; Gordon Ciano, audit partner of KPMG LLP; Cecilia Ho, executive director of private wealth management in the investment management division of Goldman Sachs L.L.C. (Asia); and Eric Yeaman, president and CEO of Hawaiian Telcom. These honorees are being recognized for their outstanding leadership in their profession and community and their commitment to their alma mater.

And finally, we will recognize alumni from the classes of 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, EMBA 6 and EMBA 11.

Organizing a successful gathering of this size requires enormous coordination and financial support. I can’t say enough about individuals such as Jay Shidler, Robin Campaniano, Barbara Tanabe, the Hall of Honor Award recipients, the Shidler Alumni Association, and Hawaii Business Publisher David Tumilowicz, who generously give their time, guidance and support to the Hall of Honor.

Together with your contributions, the College is close to meeting the Shidler Alumni Association’s pledge of $200,000 along with funds from the Shidler’s Matching Gift Program, to establish a $400,000 scholarship endowment. This scholarship will help us recruit and retain top students from Hawai‘i and around the world, and continue our effort to develop new generations of global leaders.

Once again, thank you and I hope you enjoy tonight’s program.

Sincerely,

V. Vance Roley

With over 29 years executive experience in the financial industry, John C. Dean has built a reputation for turning around troubled banks.

From 1993 to 2001, he served as the CEO of Silicon Valley Bancshares and Silicon Valley Bank, a leading provider of financial services to early-stage technology companies and venture capital firms. During his eight years as CEO, Dean grew Silicon Valley Bank’s assets from $935 million to $5.5 billion; employees from 235 to over 1,000; and market capitalization from $63 million to over $3 billion.

Prior to Silicon Valley Bank, Dean headed four other financial institutions: Pacific First Bank, First Interstate Bank of Washington, First Interstate Bank of Oklahoma and First Interstate System Inc. Under his leadership these banks grew significantly and became profitable.

In March of this year, Dean was appointed Executive Chairman of the Board of Central Pacific Bank (CPB) and Central Pacific Financial Corp. He will work with his management team to improve capital ratios by returning CPB to its community bank roots.

Dean also serves as advisor to various venture capital firms, both in U.S. and overseas. He is also director of several technology companies, including AGIS, BioImagene, WhiteHat Security and RadioTime. In 2005, Dean co-founded Startup Capital Ventures and became its managing general partner.

Over the past 10 years, Dean has been committed to helping build Hawai‘i’s economic future. He is the founder and sponsor of Kıpapa i ke Ala Lecture Series, board director of the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship (PACE) and established an endowed professorship at the UH Manoa Shidler College of Business. He is also director of Pacific Health Research Institute and is co-founder and chairman emeritus of the Entrepreneur’s Foundation of Hawaii. He previously served as a director of HiBEAM and is chairman of the Emmett R. Quady [family] foundation.

In 1997, Bloomberg Businessweek recognized Dean as one of Silicon Valley’s top 25 “movers and shakers” and, in 2001, Forbes ranked him as one of the “50 most powerful dealmakers.”

Dean graduated from Holy Cross College and received an MBA in finance from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

From his humble beginning at Arthur Andersen LLP, Eric Yeaman has built an exceptional career becoming president and chief executive officer of Hawaiian Telcom. Today he is one of the youngest CEOs of a large corporation in Hawaii.

Throughout his career, Yeaman accumulated valuable business and leadership skills. At Arthur Andersen LLP, Yeaman took on various auditing and consulting projects. He later became chief operating and financial officer for Kamehameha Schools in 2000, where he led numerous management initiatives and implemented new financial, investment and technology strategies.

In 2003, Yeaman joined Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. (HEI), as financial vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer. This led to his position as senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (parent company of HEI) where he was responsible for the leadership of its Oahu operations, energy solutions, public affairs, financial and administrative process areas.

Perhaps the greatest reflection of Yeaman’s success is his role in the community. Yeaman serves on the not-for-profit boards of Queen’s Health Systems, Queen’s Medical Center, Bishop Museum, Hawaii Community Foundation, Hawaii Business Roundtable, The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii and the Kamehameha Schools audit committee. He also serves as a director of several for-profit boards including Bishop Holdings Corporation, Kamehameha Investment Corporation and Pauahi Management Corporation. In addition, he is director of the United States Telecom Association and a member of the Hawaii Asia Pacific Association.

In 2004, Yeaman received the Financial Executive of the Year–Regional Award, which was sponsored by Robert Half International Inc., and selected as one of Pacific Business News Top Forty Under 40.

Yeaman was born and raised in Kona, Hawai‘i. He received his BBA in accounting from the UHM Shidler College of Business in 1989. He is a certified public accountant in the State of Hawai‘i.
