THFCOn Thursday 19th November, the Year 13 students from the Tottenham Hotspur Football programme visited the Clubs’ Training Centre in Enfield.

The boys took part in a practical session led by Academy Coach Tony Tillbrook, which covered the ‘4 corners’ of a football practice; Technical, Tactical, Physical and Social. This linked in with their studies for their FA Level 2 Coaching Course and they were excellent with both their observations of the session and their feedback to the group.

They also received a talk from Luke Georgiou, the Youth Performance Analyst on player development and analysis, with the students receiving brilliant feedback from both coaches for the way they represented themselves and the school.

Well done lads!Mr J Adcock

Year 12 BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care Students volunteer to help at New Grange Care Home in Cheshunt.Y12 students in BTEC Health &Social Care are studying how to effectively communicate with different people in a health and social care setting.  As part of their course requirement students have to partake in an individual and group interaction within a health and social care setting.  Students spent a Wednesday afternoon with the residents and staff of New Grange Care Home.  The students got fully involved and participated in a number of arm chair activities including games and signing Christmas cards for regular visitors to the home.  After the activities, the students had an opportunity to interact with the residents on a one-to-one basis.  The residents welcomed the opportunity to interact and

communicate with our young people and some of our students have volunteered to regularly visit the home so that the residents can have a regular opportunity to meet and communicate with others.   12 BTEC Level 3 H&SC students will be visiting New Grange Care home during November.

Thank you for a productive and purposeful three weeks into the second half term.  ‘What can we learn from the past?’ curriculum theme is progressing well as the students are learning through projects across the whole school. The extended writing task in the school hall on Friday 13th November relating to World War One ended a very successful and respectful week of learning and reflection. The students behaved impeccably and took the task very seriously resulting in high quality responses.

Attainment Reports will be posted home on the week beginning 14th December. There will also be a letter to explain the report and a reflection task that the students will fill in. The report will show your child’s progress in each subject and will also have an engaged learning grade. The information below explains the Gold Standard:

The Haileybury Turnford KS3 assessment system focuses on key knowledge (big ideas) and skills to be successful at KS4 and beyond and is based upon high expected standards for all, locking in an expected trajectory (challenge) for all students.

The key is that we are not setting a ceiling on achievement, but setting a standard of excellence - in the knowledge and skills that we think are important. Equally, we are deliberately signaling the importance of 'core' knowledge and skills and asking faculties to adapt their teaching to address misconceptions / plug gaps before moving on.

Gold is an entitlement for each and every Haileybury Turnford student. The thresholds have been labelled as follows:

Year 7 & 8 Attainment Grades

Attainment Grade Description

Platinum ( Exceptional progress)

The standard of this students work is extremely high and places them in the top 5-10% of their year group.

Gold (Good progress) This is the core level we expect from all but those students gaining platinum.

Silver (Expected progress)

The standard of this student’s work is sound but not consistently at the core expected level.

Bronze (Below progress)

The standard of this student’s work is a cause for concern

On the last week of term, your child will have the opportunity to take books and folders home of work that they are most proud of. These will be available to collect from their subject teachers. The books and folders are very important, it is critical that they are returned in good condition by 17th December 2015.

Parents’ Evenings will be held in school on 16th March for Year 7 and 4th May for Year 8. This will be an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and discuss their progress. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions before this time.

Thank youMrs L MegawAssistant Principal

Whilst they didn't win, they were the youngest, smallest and only team to bring creativity and laughter to the debate.

Congratulations to Hajar, James, Sammie and Emily.

SHOCK PENSIt has come to our attention that a small number of students have brought a shock pen into school.  Under no circumstance should these pens be brought into school. If a student is found with one they will be confiscated.  This is a serious incident and therefore the student will be dealt with according to our behaviour policy and parents will be informed.

Exam CertificatesThese have now arrived in school and can be collected from the Exams Office. Certificates can only be collected by someone else if they have written permission from the named student. Please make sure certificates are kept in a safe and secure place as they are evidence of a student’s qualifications and may be needed in the future. They are also very costly to replace.
