Haileybury is a corporation limited by guarantee and operates, as a not-for-profit organisation, the following schools: Haileybury College (for boys), Reg No 1191; Haileybury Girls College, Reg No 2009; and an Early Learning Centre.

As both Haileybury College and Haileybury Girls College run in parallel, sharing the same facilities and staff, this Statutory Report is common to both.

THE STUDENT BODYOn Census Day, 2 August 2013, Haileybury had an enrolment of 3,326 students (Prep to Year 12), of whom 1,992 were boys and 1,334 were girls. This enrolment included 35 overseas students and 12 Indigenous students. Haileybury also had Early Learning Centre enrolments of 248 for a total enrolment of 3,574.

Students Attendance & Retention

AttendanceAttendance is taken twice a day and electronically recorded. Parents of students who are to be absent are asked to ring an attendance ‘hotline’ before School. Parents of students below Year 10 who have not confirmed their child’s absence by recess are contacted by phone. Students above Year 9 are required to bring a note the following day to explain absence, and discrepancies are followed up by Senior School staff. In 2013, the Attendance Rate was 98.34%.

Retention79.7% of students in Year 12 had been in the School since at least Year 9.

It’s not just Haileybury programs, teachers and facilities that draw praise -more importantly, it’s our students

available to them.

In 2013, 39 Haileybury students or 12% of the cohort were in the top 2% in the country. Eighty-eight students or 27% of the cohort were in the top 5% in the country and 129 students or 39% were in the top 10% in the country. 88% of students were in the top 30% in the country and 95% of all Haileybury students were in the top half in the country.

This result demonstrates strong value-added performance from the largest open-entry independent school in Victoria.

Haileybury has focused strongly on core skills in literacy and numeracy in the Junior and Middle Schools and this is now flowing through into the academic performance at the VCE level.

Ten Haileybury students attained the highest Study Score possible of 50 for English. A 50 is very hard to achieve as it is a ranking against all of the other students doing that subject in Victoria. A record 26 Study Scores of 50 were achieved in 2013.

A remarkable 29% of all Study Scores for Haileybury Girls College were over 40. An excellent 20% was achieved by Haileybury College (for boys).

The 2013 class has been a dynamic and engaged group. It has been a pleasure to see them involve themselves in the broad range of School and Social Justice activities during the year. We believe they are ready to take on the next phase in their lives.

Data published on the My School website indicate that, at all year levels, Haileybury is performing well above like schools in most areas. Haileybury continues to work towards ensuring all students achieve at their highest possible level.

NAPLANRESULTSIn 2013, all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 undertook the NAPLAN testing. The results were outstanding and continued to show improvement from past results. The results show we are one of Australia’s leading schools in literacy and numeracy.
