Habitat’s mission is “to work as God’s servants with people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities

with people in need by building houses so that there are decent communities in which every person can experience God’s

love and can live and grow into all that God intends.”

Habitat in Henderson is a volunteer organization with no paid staff. Several of the core leaders in Habitat are members of

First United Methodist Church but volunteers come from many different churches and organizations. We normally build

one house per year and have just completed home #18 in Henderson. Volunteers work every Saturday morning side by

“sweat equity” and is required as a part of the Habitat partnership agreement. Habitat’s mission goes on year round but the

actual home construction begins in October and is completed in late May.

Habitat homes are not free, but they are very affordable for low income families. When the construction on the home is

“STAY”

Summer is here. For some that does not

change our schedules. Work or retirement

carry the same schedule throughout each

season.

For many others summer means a different

schedule. School is out. Vacations are

planned. Our pace has changed.

Today I would like to encourage you to

“stay” this summer. Not a “stay-cation.”

More of a “stay connected.”

Stay connected to God and our church.

Stay connected through worship. There will

be Sundays we all will be traveling and not

able to be in worship here. But don’t allow

yourself to be lazy on those week-ends you

are in town. Be consistent in worship

throughout the summer.

Stay connected through the Word. I hear a

lot of people talk about “summer reading.”

God’s Word would be a good one to add to

your list. Pick a Gospel, a letter of Paul’s,

and an Old Testament book to read through.

Stay connected on your knees. Remember the

importance of daily prayer. Keep God

primary in your heart and in your mind.

After all, you are primary in His heart and in

His mind!

May your summer be a time of relaxation

and refreshment. May it also be a time of

staying connected.

In His Immense Love,

David

We have had another successful year at FUMC

Preschool! Believe it or not, August will begin the

43rd year of our existence, and we are already making

plans to nurture, love, and teach some of our

community’s most precious treasures!

We still have a few spots left for fall enrollment. We

take children ages 3 months-5 years, and church

members receive a 10% monthly discount. If you or

someone you know are interested in enrolling a child,

please contact Casi Dickerson at (904)657-4881.

We are also looking to hire a certified teacher to fill

one of our classroom teaching positions in our 3-year

old classroom. The position open is Monday-Friday

until noon, with an option of staying in the

afternoons.

Please contact Casi for more information.

Dear Pastors and Churches of the East District, As you likely have heard by now, Lon Morris College in Jacksonville is struggling financially. Bishop Huie discussed this with the Cabinet at our recent meeting, and she expressed particular concern for the faculty and staff, as they have not received their last three paychecks. Out of our care and concern for these persons, the Cabinet voted to ask the churches of the Texas Annual Conference to receive a one-time special offering to raise funds to cover one of the missed pay periods. As you can imagine, this is an urgent situation, and we hope to raise these funds by Annual Conference. Thank you so much for your compassion and generosity on behalf of the staff of Lon Morris College! Yours in Christ, Chuck Huffman East District Superintendent

If you would like to make a contribution, please mark your check

“Lon Morris” and return it to the church office.

SUMMER WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY

Please call the church offices to reserve your spot and book for our Summer Women's Bible Study. We will meet this summer

beginning June 12th, at 10 am, on the third floor of the Adult Center. This will be a 6-week, one hour per week study with

DVD and discussion. Our first study will be A Woman's Passionate Pursuit of God by Karol Ladd.

Books are $13, and once you call to RSVP for the study, one will be available for you to either pick up at the church office

or will be brought to the first day of class with your name. Childcare will be provided.

We are looking forward to a wonderful summer and hope you can attend.

This June and July,

KIDZworship is focused on

stories that involve Jesus and water …

Every week the kids will experience:

“It Is COOL to Follow Jesus!”

We are excited to bring God’s Word out into our

community again this year through our Apartment

Ministry VBS program.

This year we will be hosted by Point North Apartments

on Monday-Thursday, JUNE 18-21 5:30-7:00.

We need helpers to lead crafts, games, and snacks. We

also need persons to share their time and God’s love

with the children of Point North and FUMC.

There are A LOT of children at these apartments, so we

are going to need LOTS of man-power this year! If you

could come to just be an extra set of hands that would

be so very helpful!

I call on ALL OF YOU to be in prayer that God’s

message of love will be shared and received during this

outreach event.

We need supply donations as well…

Cases of bottled water (It is HOT outside!)

Hula-hoops

Q: What is Bible Quest?...

A: A non-competitive program, BibleQuest encourages

servant-hood, faithfulness, evangelism and scripture

memorization. With enticements like colorful stickers and

Olympic-style medals, even first-graders will memorize

plenty of Bible verses and learn to apply the truth of God´s

Word. It is not unusual to see the number of children in

the program double in the span of three or four days.

Q: Who Is Wesley Putnam?

A: United Methodist minister. A full-time evangelist, a

musician, dramatist and storyteller. A man whose ministry

crosses denominational and state lines. Most of all, he’s a

believer who wants to glorify God and build up the

Kingdom.

…..More information to come next month….

Our Little Blessings nursery is still looking

for a third staff member.

If you or someone you know is

interested in working as a paid nursery staff

member, please contact Susan Evans ASAP.

Must have a love and passion for working with children

and be available on Sunday mornings to work.

Apportionment Update

During the month of May we were able to

pay $6,635 toward our Conference

apportionments, which means we have paid

42% of these items in our budget. We were

also able to pay 100% of our Fair Share Goal

apportionments which were $2,923.

NOTE OF APPRECIATION Most of you know by now that Don was the recipient of a double lung transplant February 6, 2012. We relocated to Houston June 29, 2011 to await the news of “new lungs.” Since that time we have been blessed with caring concern and support from our church family through your prayers, cards, letters, phone calls, notes on Caring Bridge (our web page) and visits. Our former pastor, Rev. James Turley, said many times from the pulpit that we as Christians are to be “Jesus with skin on.” This is what you are for us, “Jesus with skin on.” We are so grateful and blessed to have a church family such as you at this time in our life. Know that we are deeply appreciative for all you do to help sustain us as we journey through the lung transplant process. As Don is still very weak, please continue to pray for healing and increased strength and endurance. Our prayers go with you. Revival & Kids’ Bible Quest Program

Mark your calendars now for July 29 through August

1! These will be very special days of experiencing

God’s Word in a fresh way.

Reverend Wesley Putnam will be with us for four days

of revival and renewal. Wesley is a song writer and

preacher who has created special ways of delivering

God’s truth.

Each evening he will be with our children from 6:00 –

6:45 p.m. to help them learn Scripture through creative

songs and activities.

At 7:00 p.m. he will move into the Sanctuary to lead

our entire congregation in worship through music and

Bible characterizations.

You will want to be sure to include these days in your

calendar and to invite friends and family to join us.

Music Notes

Youth Choir Is Coming!

You heard right. Youth choir is coming back to FUMC Henderson. We will begin rehearsals in August of this

year. Youth Choirs are a vital part of any healthy church music program. We will not only be fostering the

desire for great music in church but also passing down a tradition of service and giving back to your church.

We will need volunteers to help organize and plan for our new program. Please contact Gene in the church

office for more information!

Wow! What a year it has been! The Chancel Choir and I have completed our second year

together! We have grown closer and shared many great worship services, including

fantastic Easter and Christmas seasons. We were able to once again provide a wonderful

service to the community in our annual spaghetti lunch, and with the proceeds we were

able to award scholarships to two of our graduating seniors this year. Chancel choir will

be taking off the month of July for a much deserved rest. We will build upon our

tremendous success beginning in August! I personally want to thank each and every choir

member for a fantastic season this past year. I look forward to starting our third year

together in August!
