Thedisassemblyprocedureisdividedintosectionsofthetool.Disassembleonlythesection(s)necessarytocompletetherepair.
Disassemblethetoolonaflat,cleansurface.Takecarenottoloseordamageanypartsthatmayfallfreeduringdisassembly.
Inordertosimplifythedisassemblyandassemblyinstructions,seetheToolOrientationillustrationtoiden-tifythesidesandendsofthetool.
Quick-Change Chuck (48755 Only)
1. Removeadapter(61)fromretainingsleeve(50).
Note: To prevent the loss of any steel balls, perform the next step over a clean, empty container.
�. Slidethethrustring(5�)backtoexposethrustringlock(51).Removethrustringlock,thrustring,andspring(53).Slidetheretainingsleeveoffoftheanvil(49)andremovetwosteelballs(54).
Hammer Case Components
1. Usingawrenchontheflatsofthehammercasecap(55),unscrewandremovethecap.
�. Removetheanvil(49),hammerframe(46),hammer(47)andhammerpin(48).
3. Removespacer(45),thrustbearing(43)andthrustwashers(44)fromhammercasecavity.
Motor
1. Removecapscrews(16)andremovemotorcap(6)fromhandle(1).Removegasket(15).Removedowelpins(14).
�. Pullidlershaft(13)withgear(10)fromhandle.Removegearfromidlershaft.Removethedrivepin(1�)andretainingclip(11)fromidlershaft.
3. Removeretainingring(11),gear(10)andWoodruffkey(9)fromdriveshaft(8).Pushdriveshafttowardhammercaseendandremoveitfromthehandle.
Trigger and Super Spool™
1. Removerollpin(4�)fromtriggerspool(�9)bypress-ingortappingitoutwithahammerandpunch.
Note: Support trigger (41) to prevent bending the trigger spool (29).
�. Removewasher(39),spring(38),retainingring(37),andwasher(36).Pushthetriggerspool(�9)outofthehandle(towardthefrontofthetool).
3. Removetheretainingring(33).
Note: Perform Step 4 over an empty container to catch the steel ball (32) when it falls free.
4. RemoveSuperSpool™(31)andO-ring(34).
Reversing Spool
1. Loosenandremovecap(�4)onleftsideoftoolandpullthereversingspool(19)outtherightsideoftool.
Note: Attempting to push the reversing spool the opposite way through the bore will damage the O-rings and could allow particles of O-ring to get into the motor.
�. Removeplug(��),spring(�1)andpoppet(�0).
3. RepeatStep�fortherightsideofreversingspool(19).

InspectionCleanallpartswithsolventanddrythemthoroughly.Inspecteachcomponentasdescribedinthissection.Replaceanycomponentthatshowswearordamage.
1. Bearings:Insertshaftintobearing.Spinshaft.Ifshaftdoesnotspinsmoothly,replacetheentireassemblywiththebearingsalreadypressedin.
�. Motorcapandhandle:Inspectmatingsurfaces,gearcavities,oilpassageways,etc.forgroovesornicks.Ifanycomponentshowswearordamage,replacetheentireassemblywiththebearingsalreadypressedin.
3. Thrustrings:Replaceanythrustringthatisout-of-roundorhasbeensprung.
4. Bearing(insidehammercasecap):Slidetheanvilintothebearing.Spintheanvil.Iftheanvildoesnotturnsmoothly,inspectthebearingsurface.Ifthebearingsurfaceshowsunevenwear,replacehammercasecapasanassemblywiththebearingalreadypressedin.
5. Thrustbearingandthrustwashers:Spinthebear-ingagainstthewashers.Ifbearingdoesnotspinsmoothly,replacethebearingandwashers.
6. Flowcontrolcartridge:Inspectforcracks,groovesornicks.Replacetheentirecartridgeifitshowswearordamage.

1. Removetheretainingring(66).Removetheflowcontrolcartridgefromthehandle.
�. RemovetheO-rings(64,65)fromthecartridge.
Adjustable Torque Output Screw
1. Removerollpin(70)fromhandle.Twisttheadjust-abletorquescrew(67)counterclockwisetoremoveitfromthehandle.
�. RemovetheO-ring(68)andbackupring(69)fromthescrew.
Donotattempttorepairtheflowcontrolcartridge.Itcontainsnoreplaceableparts.
Failuretoobservethiswarningcouldresultinsevereinjuryordeath.

7. Adjustabletorqueoutputscrew:Inspectallsurfacesandallthreadsforcracks,groovesornicks.Replaceifitshowswearordamage.

Reversing Spool
1. InstallanewO-ring(�5)ontoreversingspool(19).InstallanewO-ring(�6)intothehandle.InstallanewO-rings(30)onbothplugs(��).
�. Installonepoppet(�0),spring(�1)andplug(��)ontheleftend(theendclosesttotheO-ringinstalledonthespoolinStep1)ofthespool.Secureassem-blywithcap(�4).
3. Slidethereversingspoolassemblyintothehandlefromtherightside.
4. Installpoppet(�0),spring(�1)andplug(��)intooppositeendofspool.Securewithcap(�4).Useonewrenchoneeachcapandtightento31Nm(�3ft-lb).
5. UsethePressureCheckKitshowninthePartsListtocheckthereliefpressure.
RefertotheIllustrationsandPartsListforcorrectorien-tationandplacementofparts.
ApplyhydraulicfluidorO-ringlubricanttoallO-ringsandallmetalsurfaceswhichtheymustslideover.WheninstallinganO-ringwhichmustslideoversharpsurfaces,usearollingmotionandbecarefulnottodamagetheO-ring.
Wherevertheassemblyresultsinmetal-to-metalcontact,coatthesurfaceswithhydraulicfluidorO-ringlubricant.
Motor
1. UseanO-ringtooltoinstallanewO-ring(4)fromthebackendofthetool(1)
�. Lubricatedriveshaft(8)andslideitintothetoolfromthebackend.
3. InstallWoodruffkey(9)ontothedriveshaft.Alignthekeywayinthegear(10)withtheWoodruffkeyonthedriveshaftandinstallthegearontothedriveshaft.Securethegearwiththeretainingring(11).
4. Installthedrivepin(1�)intotheidlershaft(13).Alignthekeywayintheremaininggear(10)withthedrivepinandinstallthegearontotheidlershaft.Installtheidlershaftwithgearintothehandle,meshingthetwogearstogether.Installtheretainingring(11).
5. Installdowelpins(14)intohandle.Installnewgasket(15).
6. Installmotorcap(6)ontohandle.Securemotorcapwithcapscrews(16).Torquecapscrewsto10to11Nm(95to100in-lb).SeetheTorqueSequenceillustration.

1. ApplyMobilgrease®HPtothesurfacesofthehammerframe(46),hammers(47)hammerpin(48)andanvil(49).
�. Installthetwohammers,180°fromeachother,intohammerframe.Installpinsintohammerframeandthroughthehammers,thenslidetheassemblyontothesplineofdriveshaft.
3. PackhammerframecenterspacewithMobilgrease®Special#53030-3.Installanvilintohammerframeandthroughhammers.
4. InstallO-ring(6�)overthreadsonhammercasecap(55).
5. ApplyLoctiteprimertothreadsofcap.ApplyLoctiteprimertothreadsofhandleatcapinterface,ensuringthreadsarefreeofgreaseandothercontaminantspriortoapplication.
6. Slidethehammercasecapassembly(55,56)overtheanviland,usingawrenchontheflatsofthecap,screwtheassemblyintothehandle.Torqueto80-85ft-lb.
Quick-Change Chuck (48755 Only)
1. Slidethrustringlock(51)overanviltothegrooveclosesttohammercasecap.
�. Inserttwoballs(54)intotheholesintheanvil.Slidetheretainingsleeve(50)ontoanvilwiththeflangedendupward.Insertspring(53)andthrustring(5�)intoretainingsleeve.Slidethethrustringbackandinstallthrustringlock(51)ontotheanvil.Insertthedriveshank(61)intothechuck.
Trigger, Trigger Spool and Super Spool™
1. InstallO-ring(34)ontheSuperSpool™(31).Installball(3�)intriggerspoolcavity.InstallSuperSpool™(31)intothetriggerspool(�9).Secureitwiththeretainingring(33).
�. InstallO-ring(35)ontotriggerspoolassembly.InstallO-ring(�7)andbackupring(�8)inhandle.
3. Slidetriggerspoolintohandlefromfrontendofthetool.Slidewasher(36)ontotriggerspoolandsecurewiththeretainingring(37).
