H-4.2 BQAED OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) April 12, 1961 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member "banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended April 5: Increases of $572 million in holdings of Treasury bills, $620 million in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $391 million in balances with domestic banks, and $1,$82 mill ion in demand deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial and industrial loans decreased a net of $134 million. Loans for pur- chasing or carrying U. S. Government and other securities increased $113 million. Loans to sales and personal finance institutions increased $57 million, but loans to other nonbank financial concerns decreased $59 million. "Other" loans increased $47 million. Time deposits other than interbank increased $170 million, of which $105 million was i n deposits of individuals, partnerships, and corporations and $64 million was i n deposits of States and political subdivisions. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased «f j. million but borrowings from others decreased $465 million.     The condition statement of weekly reporting member "banks i n leading c i t i e s shows the fo l lowing pr inc ipal changes for the week ended April 5: Increases of $572 mi l l ion in holdings of Treasury b i l l s , $620 mi l l i on in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $391 mi l l i on in balances with domestic banks, and $1,$82 mill ion in demand depos i t s credited t o domestic banks.

    Commercial and industr ia l loans decreased a net of $134 m i l l i o n . Loans for pur-chasing or carrying U. S. Government and other s e c u r i t i e s increased $113 mi l l ion . Loans t o s a l e s and personal finance i n s t i t u t i o n s increased $57 mi l l ion , but loans t o other nonbank f i n a n c i a l concerns decreased $59 m i l l i o n . "Other" loans increased $47 m i l l i o n .

    Time depos i t s other than interbank increased $170 mi l l ion , of which $105 mi l l ion was in depos i t s of individuals , partnerships, and corporations and $64 mi l l ion was in depos i t s of States and p o l i t i c a l subdivis ions .

    Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased f j. m i l l i o n but borrowings from others decreased $465 m i l l i o n . Loans t o domestic commercial banks decreased $390 m i l l i o n ,
