description

Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless, flammable, extremely hazardous gas. #Safety Hazards: Hydrogen sulfide is a highly flammable, explosive gas, and can cause possible life-threatening situations if not properly handled. In addition, hydrogen sulfide gas burns and produces other toxic vapors and gases, such as sulfur dioxide. In addition to exposure to hydrogen sulfide in the air, exposure to liquid hydrogen sulfide can cause "blue skin" or frostbite. If clothing becomes wet, avoid ignition sources, remove the clothing and isolate it in a safe area to allow it to evaporate. The effect called knockdown (rapid unconsciousness) often results in falls that can seriously injure the worker.

An Animated Training & Awareness Program

The largest industrial route to H2S occurs in petroleum refineries. The hydro desulfurization process liberates sulphur from petroleum by the action of hydrogen.

Red Zone (category 0 area) – Risk of fatality.Yellow Zone (category 1 area) – Risk of injury.Green Zone (category 2 area) – Risk of short term nausea, irritation.

H2S Detection Equipment to be installed can control to save your life. Equipment that are used for Detection of H2S, they are mainly of 2 types 1. Fixed Detection Equipment2. Portable Electronic and Chemical Detection Equipment.

Air-purifying respirators (APRs) should not be used where H2S levels are above the 10 ppm Ceiling Limit.

You and your team must:• Be competent in using gas detectors and breathing apparatus.• Be Familiar with all H2S alarms Include H2S hazards in all risk assessments.

A few scenarios should be selected from the overall set, preferably the largest cases of each type of accident. These are the planning base accidents for emergency planning.

Establish and train emergency rescue teams (ERT) hold regular practices. Include resuscitation of H2S victims in first aid training.
