HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL NEW FAMILY ORIENTATION MEETING

On Sunday, August 4, 2019, we will be holding our annual “New Family Orientation and Informational Meeting” at 5:00 pm in Holy Family Church. We invite all new families to join us for this brief meeting to discuss important dates, procedures and any forms that will need to be completed.

If you should have any questions regarding this meeting, please contact Annette Fitzgerald at [email protected] or (225) 344-4100 ext 211.

You were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. -Colossians 2:12

ASKING FOR HELP The Beatitudes praise the poor in spirit. One characteristic of those who are poor in spirit is their ability to ask for help; they know when others can provide what they lack. Today’s readings encourage us to practice poverty in spirit by asking God for what we need. What could be more natural than to ask God for good things? God is, after all, the inventor of goodness and the giver of all good things. Asking God for help puts us in conversation with God. These conversations take many forms. The reading from Genesis shows Abraham bantering with God like a skilled negotiator, while Saint Paul’s letter to the Colossians praises God for answering us even when we don’t deserve it. In Saint Luke’s Gospel, Jesus not only gives us words to use in our conversations with God (the Our Father), but also promises that God always listens to our prayers. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

PRAY THE ROSARY The rosary is recited at 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays in the daily

chapel. Everyone is invited to come and pray.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT Holy Family Parish is a loving, caring community of devoted and committed Catholic Christians. Our mission purpose is to spread and deepen the Kingdom of God among all people. Our aim is to carry out this mission through our strong tradition of faith and family, through a strong sacramental and liturgical life, through a total Catholic educational program, through a ministry to the social needs of the community and through evangelization.

Celebrating 40 Years!

Father Paul Counce, The Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, who from 1989 to 1995 also was in resident at Holy Family Parish, is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of his ordination to the holy priesthood this year. He will celebrate a special Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral (corner of Fourth and Main Streets in downtown Baton Rouge), where he is pastor, on Friday evening, August 16, at 7 pm. Everyone is invited to attend the Mass and the reception following in the Cathedral Parish Hall. Especially if you remember Father Paul, it would be wonderful for you to join him and his family and many of the priests of the diocese at this special celebration!

BAPTISMAL SEMINAR In order for a baby to be baptized here at Holy Family, both parents and both Godparents must attend a Baptismal Seminar. The next baptismal seminar will be held on Tuesday, August 13 at 6:30 pm in Marian Hall. Call the church office to register.

The summer is nearly over and there is lots to be thankful for as well as areas in which we need to remain vigilant. I do think we are making 2 steps forward for every 1 backwards and not the other way around. Thank God, He is Good! We have had a couple of beautiful weddings, several wonderful baptisms and a confirmation, which all have enhanced Holy Family Church. We are beginning our 100th Anniversary year, to be celebrated in September 2020 with Bishop Duca. If you have any old photos, artifacts or stories that could add to our

preparations, please put them in a folder and bring them to the church office. Always be sure to list your name, phone number and address on anything you bring. We will use what we can. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Praise God we came thru “Barry” without major damage. God answered our prayers. The Gulf was able to handle the 20 inches of rain that we couldn’t. Overall the church property did well in spite of the fact our sound and lighting systems were affected by power surges. They are now back on line. Our biggest loss was the lack of the weekly collection to pay our on-going expenses: taxes, property insurance and operational cost that don’t take off a week. Please continue being faithful to stewardship and consider ACH direct deposit if you haven’t. Our school will open the first week of August for our 70th year. We are all committed to correctly forming our children; Evangelizing Hearts, Educating Minds, Encouraging Talent and Embracing the Future. Catholic Education is a gift but a great sacrifice and we appreciate you who make that sacrifice for our children and our future. Our new Administrative Team for 2019-2020 is: Alise Ashford, Principal; Allison Owens, Assistant Principal; Heather Willis, Guidance Counselor; Sheila Barton; Professional Consultant and Annette Fitzgerald, Advancement Director. They are our team, let us be their support. We also have a new Executive Board for the Holy Family Parish Advisory Council: Mark Lasseigne, Chairman, Eva “Boostie” Crochet, Vice-Chairman and Amber Vlahos, Secretary. These along with the entire Council will be making important recommendations to me as pastor for continued development of our community. Please keep them in your prayers. Lastly I would just like to highlight two summer activities that reflect our diversity and creativity at Holy Family. Vacation Bible School returned to our property after a successful several year venture with St. John’s in Brusly. It was great to see how well our facilities on the North East corner of our property could host such a wonderful program of faith and fun. Our Senior Club held its second Formal Tea in Marian Hall, welcoming the Queen and serving many delicacies enjoyed by all. The ladies adorned in their hats were visions of beauty and shared joyous conversation and laugher. I and a few men were allowed to partake of the Royal Affair! Peace in Christ,

Fr. David
