Spring Livestock Weigh-In Dates

• Saturday, March 28 - Derby Swine

• Saturday, May 2 - Sheep

• Thursday, May 7— Goat at the Washington County Fairgrounds

Iowa Pork Youth Team

Ak-Sar-Ben Reminders

All Ak-Sar-Ben registrations and

nominations are done directly

with Ak-Sar-Ben at

https://www.aksarbenstockshow.co

SOON!

IMPORTANT 4hOnline information

for all livestock exhibitors

• JAN 31: All market beef weights must be approved by

members after the county office enters the weigh-in

results. • MAY 15: ALL animal identifications (106 forms) will

be done through 4hOnline. Members must get enrolled

through that system. • If showing, purebred breeding beef you must have the

tattoo and registration numbers by May 15 or they will

be in the commercial class.

It is a requirement that all beef, bucket bottle, swine, sheep, dairy cattle, dairy goat, meat

goat, rabbit, and poultry exhibitors are required to be YQCA certified annually to exhibit at

the county fair and Iowa State Fair. This certification shows our youth are working and

learning to produce healthy, safe and quality food for market. This process is completed

online annually by using 4hOnline credentials to log in at yqca.org Coupon codes are availa-

ble from the Extension Office to cover the $12 fee online. Call ahead, 319-653-4811, to get

your individual code. This certification must be completed by June 1.

Spring Preview

Cattle Show

County Council will host an Open Cattle Show on Saturday,

April 18 at the Wash-ington County Fair-grounds. This is a

great opportunity for youth to get extra

work and experience with beef projects.

For new beef/bucket bottle members, this is a great event to observe showman-ship techniques.

Pre-registrations due April 1st.

Registrations taken the day of the show as

well.

Vet-Client Relationships Matter: Families with animals/livestock or plans to start those projects, it is very important to have a positive working rela-tionship with your veterinarian in place. BEFORE you need their immediate attention with sick ani-mals or special feed needs, go visit them, introduce yourself, let them know what projects you plan to have in the future and see if they have starter tips on the best way to care for your animals to prevent problems.

4-H Enrollment

Assistance: The Iowa 4-H Foundation is offer-

ing scholarships to those who may

not be able to afford 4-H enroll-

ment fees. If your family would

like to apply for these scholarships

contact the Extension Office. It’s

a one-page form and you are not

required to give financial infor-

mation. Please contact the Exten-

sion Office if you know 4-H’ers

who would qualify for this grant.

Please thank Unc & Neph’s for allowing Washington

County 4-H to participate in a fundraiser night during

National 4-H Week. We great-

ly appreciate those families

who dined out that evening to

help give to our program.

We are EXCITED to have this opportunity again

on Tuesday, March 17. Take your families out for a

“Clover Holiday” St. Patrick’s Day supper to Unc &

Neph’s, and they will automatically donate 10% of the

sales that evening to Washington County 4-H! You do

not need to pay extra, tip extra or provide additional

money for a donation—but they simply donate 10% of

your bill!

Re-enrolling with 4hOnline

Logging In

1. Open a web browser and type in http://iowa.4honline.com.

2. You can click on the blue sentence, “Find more information about enrolling using 4hOnline” to get picture views of these step-by-step instructions.

3. Enter the family email address you provided to the Extension office last year (if you have never given the Extension office your email, call ASAP to get it en-

tered into the system — you cannot log in without an email address). The office can help get you an email if you need!

4. Click “I forgot my password.” DO NOT CLICK “I need to set up a profile.” Anyone who has been in 4-H or had a family member in 4-H from 2009 to the

present already has a profile.

5. Click “Send my password.”

6. Leave this window open. Check your email. There should be one from 4hOnline with your temporary password. Be sure to check your spam.

7. Return to the 4hOnline page and click “I have a profile.” Enter your temporary password exactly as it was sent in the email. It is case sensitive! Perhaps

copy/paste it to eliminate errors.

8. Click “log in.”

9. Choose a new password you will be remember. Write it down! Enter it twice when prompted to update your password, then click continue. This is now your

password every time you log on to 4hOnline.

Now you will see your family information, plus a list of members and leaders associated with this family name and email address.

1. Click “Edit Family” if any of the information listed there is incorrect. Change and update as needed.

2. If everything in the family section is correct, you are ready to re-enroll! Click “edit” to the right of the person you want to start with.

3. Scroll all the way to the bottom of that screen and click on “Enroll for 2019-2020”

4. Edit information as needed. If this member has his or her own email address, you can enter that on top. Emails will then go to both the family email and the

personal email. This is ideal. The more contact, the better.

5. Please remember to list emergency contact information.

6. Second Household fields are there for children with multiple parents/guardians wanting 4-H information.

7. Answer the statistical questions, make sure the school information is correct, and click “Continue.”

8. The “Additional Information” page replaces sheets you formerly had to sign and turn in. Please read, mark, and “sign” as needed, then click “Continue.”

The next page has two tabs you must work through, CLUBS and PROJECTS.

1. Verify you are in the correct club. Select it in the drop-down menu, then click “Add Club.” Then click “Continue.”

2. Next, select what projects you are interested in for 2019-2020. You can choose as many as you want and can add and delete up until May. This is an im-

portant step, so you get updated information on your project areas for special workshops, deadlines, etc.

3. When you have finished selecting projects, click “Submit Enrollment.” You are done!

Now what?

1. Your enrollment status will show as “Pending” on your family member list. Repeat as needed until every member and leader you want to enroll for 2019-2020

is listed as “Pending.”

2. If your status says, “Incomplete,” click the edit button again to find what you missed. Submit enrollment again.

3. When you are finished, click “log out” in the upper right corner.

4. You will get an email when the county office approves your enrollment.

5. You may return to your profile any time during the year using your email address and the password you chose. Please keep info. up-to-date.

YOU MUST RE-ENROLL ONLINE NOW TO CONTINUE RECEIVING 4-H INFOR-

MATION. We will no longer send 4-H mail to families not enrolled this year!!!!!!!!

These cold winter months can allow for time inside to work on Educational Presentations.

4-H prides itself on developing strong communicators through a variety of activities and

experiences for 4-H members. It is the goal that each member gives an educational presen-

tation annually at the club level to develop those public speaking skills. Start with a topic

you love and know a lot about. This form can help you include important parts and remind

you what to work on as you develop those skills. We are happy to help anytime at the Ex-

tension Office brainstorm topics, organize ideas, or evaluate—come work with us, practice

with us, perform for us!
