Our school’s partnershipsOur school works on many projects with other schools from abroad. Each project is different. The first project, as you definitely know, is Comenius. We co-work with students from Hungary, Poland and Portugal to meet habits, history and culture of each nation. Except Comenius, there’s another work, which is prid by Socrates Company. Name of this is easy: Socrates. Socrates is the partnership with French lyceum from Rennes- city in Brittany, France. The theme of the work is ecology. But there are two partnerships, which aren’t paid by anybody. Students pay for meetings on their own. One of these partnership is called Mettingen with the gymnasium of Mettingen from Germany. Another one is with Slovakian school in Šahy, this partnership is based on sport tournaments.

History of grammar schoolGymnázium of František Palacký was established of the impulse from people who were in our town council. Together with Alois Mikyška who was the greatest member of this association and also the most famous person in our town. This idea originated at the meeting of our town council on 17.2.1871. The emperor František Josef I. agreeded this on 14.8.1871 and the third Czech grammar school in Moravia was established. Antonín Gruška was the architect of this building and he started this project in November 1871 and he finished it in 1875. During this time grew up from this construction a neorenaissance building which was visited by František Palacký who was famous Czech historic and one of the biggest figures our National Revival. Our building was named after him in 1936. This time our grammar school was called: State Czechoslovakian gymnasium of František Palacký. The instruction started in the new building but it had fight against germanization because there was a group of Germans who wanted a German gymnasium. Since 1875 was headmaster Alois Kaplan open made to do a German paralel class which was canceled because of few Germans.

In 1880 a grammar school was changed into eight class gymnasium. It was Alois Mikyška’s idea to found botanical garden not far from the gymnasium and students maintain of it. At the beginning of the twentieth century, professors and students of our grammar school took active part in the political campaign for election of Tomáš G. Masaryk to the Wiena parliament. The feelings of our students who were against the Austro-Hungarian monarchy were the reason why authorities wanted to close this gymnasium. Both World Wars partly destroyed the gymnasium building. In the year 1943 the headmaster František Nedbálek was executed who joined the antifascist rebellion. Similar destiny had some students and professors. In 1948 the building was moved to primary school Šafaříkova at the time of communism. In 1973 we came back to the old building. Since 1992 the headmaster is Jan Trčka and since 1994 was added six years‘ study section to four year – course study section. From 2002 to 2006 a big and expensive reconstruction was made.
