Wastewater streams from food and beverage,

biofuels production, pulp and paper mills, and

other industries, are often highly loaded with

organic pollutants and can be treated advanta-

geously by various anaerobic processes.

Undoubtedly the biggest advantage of anaerobic

wastewater treatment processes is the produc-

tion of biogas as a by-product of the treatment

process.

Another significant benefit, which has a positive

environmental and economic impact for compa-

nies and municipalities, is a significantly lower

sludge production rate in comparison aerobic

treatment processes.

Thousands of companies around the world already utilize biogas generated generated from waste as an alternative to fossil fuels!

ANAEROBIC TECHNOLOGIES MATRIXBENEFIT FROM 30 YEARS OF OPERATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF GWE

Over the last few decades, our technologies

have been evolving along with changing markets

and customer needs. But just like 30 years ago,

also today many variables influence the selection

of the optimal wastewater treatment technology.

A significant advantage of the offered solutions

is the possibility of adapting them to local condi-

tions. With GWE you always get design optimized

based on the lowes operating costs and maximum

treatment efficiencies and biogas generation.

ANUBIX™ - BTHE UPFLOW ANAEROBIC SLUDGE BLANKET (UASB) SYSTEM

• Medium to high loading rates

• Simple, reliable operation

• Highly effective on a large variety

of wastewaters

• Handles concentrated wastewa-

ters; up to 30,000 mg/l COD

• Requires low suspended solids

content: TSS/COD < 0.1

• Requires low fats, oil and grease

The ANUBIXTM – B is a compact and cost-effec-

tive solution that can be applied to a very wide

range of wastewaters. Now in its seventh gener-

ation since 1979, it has proven to be a highly ro-

bust and reliable treatment system for hundreds

of industrial clients around the world.

The ANUBIX™ - B can utilize both granular and

flocculent biomass, making it the most flexible

of the UASB reactor configurations. Very high

removal efficiencies guarantee uninterrupted

biogas production and reduces the size of any

subsequent aerobic polishing step.

Thanks to its tower-like configuration, the ANU-

BIX™ - T can be utilized in applications with limit-

ed available space for the industrial wastewater

treatment plant. This reactor can be success-

fully used for treatment of wastewaters whose

composition will guarantee creation of anaerobic

granular sludge.

Besides the 3-phase separation system at the

top of the reactor, present in all reactors within

the ANUBIXTM family, ANUBIXTM –T is equipped

with an extra 2-phase separator in the middle of

the reactor. This creates vertical mixing patterns

that allow biogas generated in the sludge bed to

separate from the mixed liquor.

In contrast to conventional UASB reactors, the

ANUBIXTM - CES system, with built-in three-

phase separator at the top of the reactor which

diverts biogas and retains solids, sludge sep-

aration is prerformed externally in a special

lamella-type separator, the GWE SUPERSEP™

- CF. The effluent of the sludge separator is then

delievered to any post-treatment that might be

required.

The ANAFIX™ reactor is an ‘anaerobic fil-

ter-type’ of anaerobic system containing floating

biomass carrier material to enhance biomass

concentrations and retain biomass within the re-

actor. The plug-flow operation mode results in a

stratification of layers of the specialized anaero-

bic bacteria within the anaerobic filter.

This multistage system in one reactor provides

significant robustness and resiliency to the pro-

cess, allowing it to handle very difficult-to-treat

wastewaters, including those containing toxic or

inhibitory compounds.

for the treatment of high strength or high-solids

wastewaters and slurries. For the optimal treat-

ment efficiencies, it is available in both mesophil-

ic and thermophilic (ANAMIX™ - M/T) configu-

rations, the choice of which is made based on

wastewater characteristics.

Mixing can be performed with various devices,

depending on the type of wastewater or waste

treated, but is most typically done with a large

top-entry mixer or via external pump recircula-

tion.
