    PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS

    Director of Regional Math and Science Center. The Center serves a three county area andserves over 180,000 students and 10,000 teachers. Services provided by the Center arecategorized as leadership, student services, professional development, communityinvolvement, curriculum support, and resource clearinghouse. Programs serve to motivate

    and enrich student learning and enhance and develop teacher's professionalism.Collaboration with community and industry organizations is a high priority. The Center isstaffed by 4.0 FTE professional, 2.5 FTE clerical and 1.0 FTE student workers and operateson a $700,000 budget that includes grant, gifts, and in-kind funding.

    Co-PI with Karen Meyers, present director of the RMSC, for the Mathematics and SciencePartnership Grant, Michigan Mathematics and Science Teacher Leaders Collaborative. Thisis a statewide grant among Grand Valley State University , Saginaw Valley State University,University of Michigan, and University of Michigan Dearborn.. It is a multi-year award for2006 2009 to develop teacher leaders in science and mathematics.

    Co-Director for NSF Grant # TPE-915-3904, Teachers In Industry Strategy. Project beganJanuary, 1992 and included administration of summer teacher internships in industry, in-service workshops based on the internships and development of teacher and administratorteams who participated in industry training sessions. Teams developed and executed aschool impact plan based on their experience.

    Primary Administrator and Co-Project Director for NSF Grant #TPE8751919. Major projectaccomplishments include: established and directed twelve ten week summer industryinternships for science and mathematics teachers, coordinated the writing, editing and

    publishing of a classroom manual, Teachers In Industry, Science and Math Activities, anddeveloped and coordinated a teacher in-service workshop series held at six industry sites.

    Project Director for a NASA grant and a Michigan Space grant to partially fund activitiesassociated with the National Science Olympiad.

    Project Director for two Eisenhower Higher Education Grants and two Title II Part A (3)Grants through the State of Michigan. The Science and Mathematics Leadership grantsprovided support for local leadership development and the Local District Education ReformProjectsupported science curriculum reform in participating districts.

    Conducted sessions at various teacher in-service workshops.Building Science Leaders Program Poster presentation sharing results from science

    teacher leader programs at ESERA (European Science Education Research Association)Conference in Malmo, Sweden; August 2007.

    Developing Building Science Leaders Interactive presentation sharing results from threeteacher leader programs developed by the Regional Math & Science Center @ GVSU.

    Presentations sites included: National Science Teachers Association, Annual

    Conference, 2005; Michigan Science Teachers Association, Annual Conference,2006

    Developed and directed: A Strategic Planning Action Team on Curriculum for a local school district Twenty- three successful Science Olympiad Regional Tournaments that attract over 1500

    secondary students and over 250 adult volunteers, including a national tournament.

    Mini-course program designed to provide rapid, broad exposure of varied topics tomiddle school students. A professional development summer program for in-service teachers Math and Science Support Service for GVSU science and mathematics majors Science Update Seminars that serve over 250 area science teachers. Pre-health Academic Advising plan that serves 300 GVSU students per semester.

    Michigan Science Teachers Association Board Member State of Michigan's Math and Science Center Network Treasurer State of Michigan's School Board of Education's Employability Skills Task Force. Michigan Regional committee to increase sensitivity to the needs of underrepresented
