AN ACT to control the movement of animals into and from Guyana: to prevent Ule inlmdudion

and spread of animal d~seases within Guyana: to protect and promote animai health and

safety; and to provide for malters connected therewith and incidental thereto.

Interpretallon 2. In thls Act -

"animar means any nan-human mammal, blrd. fish, reptile, amphiboa",

Crustaceans or insects:

'animal pans' means the bones and bone meal, untanned hides and

skins, flashings, hooves, homt.claws. hairbnstles, ww1,feathers.

offal. blood (whether fresh or dehydrated) or meat scraps of an

animal Or any other panof an animai other than the meat or offal,

for human oranimal consumption which has been separated from

the carcass;

'anlmal product' means the carcass of an animal, animai manure, any

animai produce and any product of animai ongm for human or

animai consumplion w for agticulural, repmductive. industrial, domestic, cosmetic or pharmaceutical use;

'fintngs' means any facilit~es or materials used for housing, restraining.

'notifiable disease' means a disease mentioned in the Schedule or any

other disease for which the Schedule is amended to indude;

' ~ w n e f means - (a) a person having or claiming any right Mle or interest in a

domestic animal, animal product animal pans or other

pmpem;

(b) a lawful occupier of properly:

(C) an agent of a penon specified in paragraph (a) or (b):and

(d) a peison who is in charge, or appears to the Inspector

conclmed to be in charge. of a domest~c animal, anlmal

pmducl, animal parts or other property.

"quarantine' means action that places animals or areas under the dlrect

supeNiSion of the Veterinary Authority for purpose; of :hi; Act.

'quarantine station* means a facility under the mntrol of the Veterinary

Authority where an animal or a group of anim* is maintained in

sola at ion, with no direcl or indirect contact wlth other animais, in

order to undergo o b s e ~ a o n for a specified lengm of the and, it

'veterinanan' means a duly regfstered practitioner of vetennaw medicine;

Vetennary 3 (1) The Veterinary Authorcb shall be the Authority for the purposes of thts

Restr~ct~on 4 (1) Any animal, animal product or animal pans shall not be imporled mto

on import- Guyana unless -

accordance wilh an lmpart permlt issued by the Vetednary

Authoriiy and

(b) the relevant Authority of the exporllng country issues a

certificate specitylng the country of orlgin, s p i e s , producl and

(2) Any person who wishes to imporl any anlmal, animal products or

anlmal parts into Guyana, shall apply to the Veterinary Authority in the form determ~ned

(a) in me cased an Individual, to a fine of mree hundred thousand

dollars and to imprisonment for a term of M l v e months; and

(b) in the case of a M y corporate, to a fine of one million dollars.

ANIMAL QUARANTINE

Quarantine 8. Whefe Me Veterinary Authcdty prescribes a station for the quarantine of

Control 14. If the Veterinary Authority believes that it is reasonably necessary for the

zones purpose of preventing, mntmliing or eradicating an infectious disease, it may declare any

land, premises, area or place to be a controlzone and speciw any pmhibiins. restricUons

and requirements which are to operate in the control zme.
