Easter Hat Parade! Come and join us for our K-2 Easter Hat Parade on Thursday 29th March starting at
9:30am. This will be held in the Primary Quadrangle on the grassed area. Limited seating will be
provided, please feel free to bring your own chair. Each year group will sing an Easter song and model their
beautiful Easter hats. All students will organise their costume and accessories at home.
The winners of the raffle will be announced at the end of the
parade. We hope to see you there.
Egg Drop Competition Your mission is to design a container that will protect an egg from a plunge off a two metre ladder. Your design needs to follow these guidelines:
1. The egg needs to be raw!
2. You cannot attach material around the centre of the eggs.
The Egg Drop competition is for K-2 students only.
Some suggestions for your eggs drop —
- Use balloons or a parachute to slow the egg down
- Soft, crushable packing that encloses a lot of air is best. Foam rubber, feathers, cotton or synthetic padding might help.
Students are to make their egg-cellent containers at home.
The Egg Drop will be held after recess on Thursday 29th March under the Infants Cola.

Yarn Up with
Heidi & Jorja
When you look around our school you will see SAFE, RESPECTFUL, LEARNERS. We use Aboriginal symbols to remind us what these words mean. The hand means consider your thoughts and ac ons to be safe, the respec ul symbol represents an elder and child and the learner symbol is of people gathering and learning from one another. You may have also no ced our new bush tucker garden and yarning circle. Stay tuned for the grand opening in Term 2.

Willow Tree Horse Sports
On Friday, 16th March, 3 of our Equestrian Team members saddled up their steeds and competed at the Quirindi Showground for Willow Tree Public Schools Horse Sports Day. The team consisting of Sidney Cooper, Bronte Snow and Madison McDonald had a great, if not very warm day, with some excellent results.
Sidney received 2nd in the flag race, 3rd in the 9yr old Boy Rider and Hack, and 4th in the Pleasure Hack, Barrel race, 3 mug race and the Keyhole. It was also an amazing achievement for Sidney to receive the 9yrs Boy Encouragement Award.
Bronte received a 3rd in her 11years Girl Rider and 5th in her Hack.
Madison received a 5th in the Keyhole.
Congratulations for representing your school so well, and thanks to the parents for getting our team there.

GSPS Represented at Professor John Ha e’s Visible Learning
Conference in Sydney
On Monday 19th March, Mrs Craig, Mrs Walters, Mrs Heath,
Mr Gleeson, Miss Budge and Miss Anson a ended an
Inspira onal conference on Visible Learning, presented by the
‘pop star’ of Educa onal Research, Professor John Ha e.
For nearly a year now, all staff at GSPS have been involved in a
professional development programme called Visible Learning that
explores how evidence can be used to create innova on in the
learning environment. This professional learning is focused on
John Ha e’s research.
A key message of our professional learning is to evaluate the effect teachers
have on their students, understand this impact and act on this knowledge and
understanding accordingly. KNOW THY IMPACT!
John Ha e has developed the no on of Visible Learning to represent the most
powerful influences on teaching and learning in
our classrooms. By powerful, he means those
strategies that are effec ve for student learning.
At GSPS we have been focusing on not what
teaching strategies WORK, rather which
teaching strategies WORK BEST!
It was an absolute privilege to hear John Ha e talk about his research and
beliefs as we have worked on embedding Visible Learning in our school.
We were able to network with other schools from all around Australia who are
undertaking the same Professional learning journey as we are.
We will ensure that you, our school
community, are kept informed about this
professional learning and how it impacts on
student learning.

Bus Passes and Travel on the Bus
All parents and carers need to be aware of the regulations surrounding bus travel for school students. All students from Kindergarten to Year 2 are eligible for free travel to and from school but must have a bus pass. Bus passes can be obtained from Transport NSW via the following link https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/#/applyNow . The process is now completely online. There are no forms to fill out physically.
Years 3 to 6 are only eligible for free bus travel if they live outside the radius of 1.6km from the school. Those students who live outside the bus zone may travel on the bus for $1 per trip. If students are paying for their travel they do not need a bus pass. Students who only travel on the bus occasionally will be asked to pay $1 per trip. Please keep this in mind if your children are to catch the bus for the odd trip.
If students have a bus pass they must have it with them every time they go on the bus. I would suggest that the passes are attached to school bags in a tag that is sturdy and will not break easily. If students forget their pass they will be allowed on for that day but must show the pass the next day they travel. If students forget their pass continuously they may be asked to pay or possibly denied travel.
If a bus pass is lost, it will need to be replaced by making contact with Transport NSW. According to the Transport NSW website ‘A card replacement fee may apply’.
If you are having any issues with bus travel please contact the relevant bus company as soon as possible. We don’t want children denied travel due to a lost pass. Please ensure that your child has a valid pass.

SUPA Clubs are Christian clubs for kids. They operate in primary schools throughout Australia. At SUPA Club we have games, drama, stories from the
Bible, and the occasional treat. Children have the opportunity to investigate some of life’s challenging questions. SUPA Club is held in the Hall each Fri-day at lunchtime with Mrs Sommerlad and Mr Stones (Scripture teacher).
