GUM is the name of the main

department store in many cities of the

former Soviet Union, known as State

Department Store during the Soviet

times. Similar-named stores were in

some Soviet republics and post-Soviet

states. The most famous GUM is a

large store in the Kitai-Gorod part of

Moscow, facing Red Square. It is

actually a shopping mall

EXTERIOR/ENTRANCE

With the façade extending for 242 m (794 ft) along

the eastern side of Red Square, GUM was built between 1890

and 1893. The trapezoidal building features an interesting

combination of elements of Russian medieval architecture and

a steel framework and glass roof, a similar style to the great

19th century train stations of London.

GUM is not just a simple store where it is possible to buy

everything. It is a whole trading block where there is a drug

store, bank’s branch, flowers shop, etc. It is an artistic gallery

and a place to organize cultural, political events, exhibitions,

etc.

INTERIOR

The legendary Demonstration Hall is restored that left its traces

in the history of the national cinematography. Different cultural

events and high society meetings are organized in the original

interior.

Demonstration Hall is situated on the third floor and was renovated

in 2007. It is the unique and the only venue in the world with

fantastic panoramic view to Red Square. The Hall has a separate

entrance via grand staircase from Red Square, made in red

Karelian granite. The interior is decorated in a traditional emperor

style, in light exquisite colors.

The total area of the Hall is 386 sq. meters.

The stage is 10 x 10 meters. It is enough to accommodate

a banquet up to 250 guests or a reception up to 350

guests..

Check-rooms, bathrooms, staff rooms, make-up rooms,

rooms for catering are located nearby. The rental fee

includes 24 hours of renting, security staff, lighting and

sound equipment, lighting engineer, parking.

depending on number of people.
