Greetings Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

And welcome to the first year of the second century of the Hampton University Ministers’ Conference, and the 81st year of the Choir Directors’ and Organists’ Guild Workshop. Truly, the Lord has been gracious and continues to do exceeding abundantly above all we could ever ask or think according to the power at work in us! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your gracious and merciful abundance. We are wonderfully blessed by powerfully anointed preaching and efficacious scholarly teaching. This year’s slate of speakers and presenters are experienced experts in their field, and we are pleased to bring them to Hampton University this year. Our Centennial Commemoration Conference was such a beautiful once-in-a-lifetime experience. Hampton University, conference officers and faithful attendees were excited to bear witness to this great move of God in the life of the community of faith locally, nationally and around the world. What a jewel! What a joy! What a mighty God we serve! A heart-felt and enthusiastic welcome to Reverend Dr. Dwight S. Riddick, Sr. (HUMC) and Dr. Constance Dorsey (GUILD) who will serve as Presidents for the next four years; Congratulations! As Executive Director and Treasurer, I Iook forward to working with each of you to build a better and stronger conference in the years to come.

THE REVEREND DR. MAURICE WATSON was born the seventh of eight children to Ulysses and Juanita Watson on July 21, 1960, in Little Rock, Arkansas. At the young age of 16, he accepted the call to preach the gospel, and two years later was ordained. His first pastorate was at St. Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock, where he served for seven years. In November of 1988, at the age of 28, Dr. Watson accepted the call to pastor the Salem Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska, where he served for 15½ years. Salem’s membership grew from 1,200 to more than 3,500 and the ministry was able to move into a new 42,000-square-foot, multi-million dollar facility by January 2000. In early 2004, sensing a new call of God on his

life, Dr. Watson accepted the senior pastorate of Beulahland Bible Church in Macon, Georgia, and began his assignment there in April 2004. God opened the windows of Heaven and began to pour out blessings upon this ministry. Using Pastor Watson as a vessel, God has been able to touch the hearts of many causing Beulahland to grow tremendously by adding thousands souls to the ministry. With the primary goal of Changing the World from Middle Georgia, Watson’s leadership took Beulahland to a second location of worship in Warner Robins, Georgia beginning February 2005. After 5 ½ months of worship, the church was able to close on 13 acres of land to build a new worship facility for the Warner Robins area. In early 2004, Dr. Watson’s vision of “Faith on the Fast Track” didn’t stop there as the church, under his leadership, planned the construction of a second worship facility on the Macon campus grounds. This new 40,000 square foot edifice was completed in October 2009 and the membership now enjoys a state of the art, 3,000 seat sanctuary complete with custom sound and audio, new administrative offices, a café and bookstore, a finance room, an intake room and a videotaping room. In addition to his pastoral calling, Dr. Watson also has a dynamic itinerant preaching ministry that extends across the continent and globe. He has been described as one of the premier preachers of our generation and is well-known and sought after for his anointed, sound and understandable proclamation of God’s Word. In 2002, he served as the morning preacher at the Annual Hampton Ministers’ Association Conference where he later served as the conference preacher in 2005. Currently, Dr. Watson is the new pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Washington, DC. He is married and has two beautiful daughters.

THE REVEREND DR. STEVEN A. BLUNT is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the son of Rev. and Mrs. Henry and Clarissa P. Blunt of Franklin, Virginia. He is a graduate of Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University (Master of Divinity Degree), a graduate of the Union Presbyterian School of Christian Education of Richmond, Virginia (Masters of Theology Degree with a concentration in the field of Ethics and Historical Philosophy), and a graduate of Howard University’s School of Divinity in Washington, D. C. where he attained the Degree of Doctor of Ministry. Closing in on almost twenty years in the pastorate, Dr. Blunt proudly served as

pastor of the Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church of Windsor, N.C. for six years before accepting the call to fulfill the pastorate of the historic First Baptist Church Mahan Street of Suffolk, Virginia. Dr. Blunt is President of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia, a member of Virginia Union University’s Board of Trustees, Vice President of the Suffolk Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, In 2013 Dr. Blunt was elected as one of the youngest inductees into the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Board of Preachers of Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA in affirmation of his advocacy for the academy and the work of social justice. Dr. Blunt is married to Mrs. Brandey L. Blunt and they are the parents of two daughters, Nakari Brynae and Kori Cheyenne.
