Entry Guideline
Eligibility
The competition is open to any individual, group or
nationality.
Entry Categories-Kanji category
-Latin category
Either or both categories may be chosen. There is
no limit to the number of submissions per entrant.
Award Categories
-Morisawa Award
Entry works are to be judged for creativity, excel-lence of design and functionality.
-Akashi Award
Entry works are to be judged for typeface designs
appropriate for commercialization by Morisawa Inc.
Production of a prize-winning typeface will proceed
under the conditions of the copyright agreement.
Entry to the Akashi Award is optional.
JPY 1 million (1 work)
Peoples Choice
Winners receive a testimonial, a trophy and a gift.
-Kanji categoryHighest number and 2nd highest number of votes
(1 work each)
-Latin category
Highest number and 2nd highest number of votes
(1 work each)
Entry rules and Design format
Download the competition entry rules and the de-
sign format in the official website.
Submitted designs must conform to the format
specifications for the respective category: Sheet
1 - 3 for Kanji category, and Sheet A - B for Latin
category. Entries that differ substantially from the
competition specifications will be disqualified.

All of the characters shown on the sample Sheet 1
and 2 for the Kanji category are to be regarded as
the character set assigned for Kanji category entries.
A total of three sheets per typeface must be submit-
ted with each entry as described in the rules below.
For entry sheets entrants may use the guide file of
entry sheets prepared in the official competition
website. Works unrelated to the theme will not be
judged.
Each sample sheet has been prepared using an ex-
isting typeface for reference only.
Rules common to all entry sheets
0-1Entry sheets should be marked on the upperright-hand corner with the Work ID provided at
the time of your entry in the official website.
Show the ID with 14pt (5mm) sans-serif typeface
and outline it to eliminate any problems in output-
ting.
0-2Entry sheets must be submitted in a PDF file.
Please make sure it is properly opened by Acrobat

surrounded with 0.1mm thin line to show full-width
imaginary body. Character spacing is 20 mm with
24 mm leading.
1-3In the last line, set the alphabet and numerals
as created to assume the width of each character.

Entry Sheet 2: Horizontal and Vertical-setting
Examples
2-1Set the same sentence in horizontal composi-
tion as shown in the sample using 16 mm full-width
characters with 23 mm leading. Use any character
spacing that will best display the effect of your en-

Entry Sheet 3: Free Presentation
3-1For the sheet three, make a free presenta-
tion that will best display the effect of your entry.
You are free to use any character size and to set
any way you want. Characters not assigned in the
sample may be created and used. However, names
of entrants, their membership organizations and
typefaces should not be appeared in the sentence.
Using the exisiting typefaces is also prohibited.
3-2The space used in the sheet must be within
270 mm x 400 mm as shown in the sample. Dont
use each margins of 10 mm.
