Gloucester Heritage Open Days 2020
Friday 11th to Monday 14th September
This is our 25th year of HOD in Gloucester. Unfortunately, due to the
coronavirus pandemic it may not be our finest year. However, we hope you
will be able to enjoy what we do have to offer.
A few important points to note: -
• The History Festival have been unable to produce a brochure this
year so what you have in this booklet is the best we can offer for our
HOD programme. There will be limited paper copies available so
we ask that if you have received this by email you will forward it on
to all interested family and friends in order to spread the message.
• We are endeavouring to follow government guidance on virus
protection. Social distancing must be observed and face coverings
used inside buildings. Please observe all notices and adopt good
practice where displayed.
• Please take note that all guided walks, talks and some places open to
the public will be by pre-booking only.
• Numbers are limited to 5 on walks, 4 on the SULA lightship and 15
for talks. Where booking is not required there may be restriction to
numbers entering at one time. Stewards will advise.

A Victorian Walk round Gloucester Docks C4 Sun 13th 15.00-16.00
The Ed Shed at The Folk, Westgate St

Entirely illustrated by old photographs this talk by Tony Condor will bring
together stories from behind the scenes. Docks life was busy, visiting
narrow boats came from the Midlands to mix with local Craft. Sailing ships

the cargoes into warehouses and the businessmen sold on the grain and
timber. From this mass of people come the stories of every day life, special
events, and the tragedies that life throws up.
