GUIDED STUDIES
Organizational Skills/Time Management
• Daily use of Planner• Separate notebook/binder/folder for each
subject• Organized and neat locker• Gather all materials before sitting down to
work• Keep desk in school and at home neat and
orderly
Organizational Skills/Time Management
• Clean up desk at the end of each study session• Try to use the same location everyday, but
have a backup location just in case• Build in time for review every day• Get homework in on time, everyday• Allow extra time for assignments, reading and
studying• DO NOT overbook or over schedule your time
Organizational Skills/Time Management
• Start each day with a list of what needs to be accomplished
• Prioritize each task from most important to least important
• Stick to the plan (list) of the day and try to minimize distractions
• Finish each list every day• If you can not finish a day’s list, complete tasks first
that you did not finish yesterday first • Be realistic as to how long each task will take
Organizational Skills/Time Management
• Make sure to block enough time to complete each task correctly, fully and properly
• Break down large assignments into smaller components. Smaller pieces are more manageable and give a sense of accomplishment
• Use the O.H.I.O. principle—Only Handle It Once
Organizational Skills/Time Management
• Stick to the plan (list). Don’t fall into the trap of forgetting the plan
• WORK BEFORE PLAY• You are a student first and foremost. School,
homework and studying are your number one job!
• Take short breaks when you work. Reward yourself with a quick break.
Organizational Skills/Time Management
• You need to concentrate on what you are doing.
• When reading, studying and doing homework, do not have the tv, stereo, iPod, cellphone or any other distracting devices on
• Use all available resources to maximize study time. This includes parents, siblings, friends and even (gasp!!!!!), teachers
