Library for HE Students

The library can be found at Nuneaton campus on the first floor and at Hinckley campus close to reception.

The libraries are open Monday to Thursday in term time 8.30 am to 8.00 pm, Fridays 8.30 am to 4.00 pm.

In half term and holidays the libraries are open 9.00 am to 4.30 pm (Fridays 4.00 pm).

Membership

All current students can become members and borrow resources. Joining is simple: fill in a membership form in the Library or do it online at www.nwhc.ac.uk/library_enquiry/application.php.

Study space

The library provides flexible study areas for individual quiet study and group-work discussion. We have computers with internet access, facilities for viewing/listening to videos, DVDs, slides, and audio tapes; also colour photocopiers and printers.

Collections

The library offers:

A large collection of books, journals and videos to borrow or use in the library. The online catalogue, heritage.nwhc.ac.uk, is the best place to find out what resources are available.

Online resources (ask a member of staff for Athens access) or request online on the library website.

Help to borrow resources from other libraries. Access to other libraries through the Inspire joint access

scheme.

You can borrow up to 8 items at a time including back copies of journals and DVDs. The normal book loan period is 3 weeks, for other items it is 1 week. We charge small amount for overdue items, but loans can be renewed by telephone or by self-renewal online using your College ID and your date of birth (six digits) for the password.

E-books, e-journals and other online resources

Online resources, like e-books and e-journals, have become the main type of information sources for the scholarly community and their role is increasingly important. It is essential to get acquainted with them as early and as much as possible. They contain top quality information for study and research. The College's e-resources library is at www.nwhc.ac.uk/library/resources, and the librarians can advise on their use. Please ask a member of staff for Athens access which allows free use of e-resources, with a password.

Help, advice and support

All users are offered an induction that explains how to join the library, what membership offers and how to search the catalogue. Also, Information Skills sessions are available for students who require more in-depth knowledge:

How to access and use electronic resources using Athens; Advanced searching skills; How to evaluate learning resources; Citation and referencing.

One-to-one information skills and advice sessions with a librarian can be booked.
