in the City” – if you need a kebab, that is place for you. It’s situated

on Grunwaldzka Street, near the medical shop.

Jam- jam- small place in the Old Town with original balkan food.

Kuźnia smaków- you can find some traditional polish food there.

It’s also cheap, one dinner costs less than 10 zl. One of them is in

Training and Conference Centre, another close to the Chemistry

Department.

Ravioli- bar with American style and polish pizza. Close to Kuźnia

Smaków.

Greenway –Vegetarian Cuisine

Grecco- place, where you can taste Greece, in the Old Town

Karczma Jana, Pierogarnia- both in the Old Town, both provide

traditional Polish food

Yoko Restaurant- sushi restaurant in the Old Town

Guide for Freshmen

Student Dear friends!!!

We have prepared this guidebook especially for you, to

make your start at our University and Faculty much easier, and remember that we are going to help you as much as we can. We – the Student Government -would like to wish you joyful and wonderful moments in a new stage of your life. We assure you that there will be many such moments, although sometimes it will be hard and you‘ll think “I can’t make it!” or “This is too much.” But anyway, we believe that it won’t be happening too often. We wish you a lot of patience and perseverance- good luck .

What kind of information can you find on the Internet?

Studying medicine doesn’t leave a lot of time for surfing the Web. But there are some websites worth knowing, which you will probably check a lot. You have them listed here:

Moment of relaxation

In the following section would like to introduce you to some places which hopefully will help you with dealing with everyday’s stress. Olsztyn offers wide variety of places, where you can spend

really amazing time and meet interesting people. Here are some of

them:

Chilli- probably the most popular club among ED

Qotłownia Stara Club- if you ask your older colleagues about it,

they’ll surely tell you many nice things .

Euphoria- known for retro party and expensive, but fancy drinks.

Faceclub- we will organise a party for you there soon

Browarnia Warszawska- pub close to the University Hospital, not too

expensive- great place for after-classes meetings (or between the classes

).

Warka- another pub, but with karaoke. The only place where you can sing

and no one will dare to leave .

To live such a social life, you will obviously need some good food. In

Olsztyn you can find a place to eat no matter what kind of food you prefer.

Sphinx- it’s a place where dishes are really big, so it’s perfect for great

hunger. Another advantage is that they have special offer for students.

It’s located close to Wysoka Brama/ High Gate/ Old Town.

Something for the body, something for the spirit As you know, it has to be more to life than studying. Even at our

Faculty of Medical Sciences:)

Akademickie Centrum Kultury=ACK= Academic Cultural

Centre.

This is the unit affiliating university clubs promoting extrascientific

activity. The organization helps to find forms of self-realization and

fulfillment of students’ free time, providing: e.g. rehearsal room,

instruments, sound equipment.

Students develop their passion in the clubs, among the others.:

Studium wychowania fizycznego i sportu=SWFiS=Department of

Physical Education and Sport , the website:

In addition to physical and sport education classes, SWFiS gives us many

other opportunities. For the avid sportsmen and sportswomen there are

individual sports sections, for those who wish to have a recreational

game with friends it is possible to rent some objects. There are also

inter-play sports organized where you fight for the glory of our

Faculty. Our Sport Department coordinator will tell you more about

it.

series? Did you like it? Well, this book is nothing like that. Stop

watching TV and start learning!

McMinn's Clinical Atlas of Human Anatomy- Yeah, we know

that photos are pretty, but we advice not to read it during family

dinners

Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy- one of the few books which

have cute colourful Picture. Enjoy!

Color Textbook of Histology- Gartner, Hiatt- You don’t like

pink? You’d better not admit it during histology classes. When

you’re finished with this book, you’ll hate pink and violet even

more

As your older friends, we know how much energy you will need for

studying anatomy, so we decided to save you atleast from being lost

in the Metropolis of Olsztyn . In the middle of the Guidebook

there is a map. Here is a short description of it:

1)The University Hospital, Warszawska 30 Street, here you can find,

among the others: Anatomy Department, Physiology Department,

Histology Department, and Hospital Wards, where will you have some of

your classes.

2)Dean’s Office WNM, Żołnierska 14c Street, here you can find: Nursery

Department and all of the Deans offices.

belong to many local government official structures of the Faculty and

University.

Representing you we try to care about issues important to students, staff,

and faculty. We have representatives in:

- Faculty Council-which is the main organ that decides about the fate of

the Faculty

- Faculty Scholarship Committee- where your applications for

scholarships, grants and assistance (extra benefits) are considered.

- Faculty Program Committee- which main task is to develop and improve

programs of study;)

- UWM Senate- which is the supreme collective organ of the University

-The University Student Council- which is the main organizational

structure of student activities at our University. If you would like to keep

up with events that are happening at our Faculty and the University, be

At the beginning of each year we will visit you during your classes and

give all the information, which you’ll ask about.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT Faculty of Medical Sciences was established on 17 July 2007, by the

resolution of Senate of the University of Varmia and Masuria in Olsztyn.

In the same year 1st Students’ Government was established, whose

chairwomen was Nursing student: Joanna Kostrzewa.

After ending her term in 2010 the new Government composition was

changing, now it consists of following people:

Each faculty on our University has a Rada Wydziałowa Samorządu

Studenckiego- RWSS the Faculty Student Council.

Representatives of students, having a right to vote are chairman and vice-

chairman from all years Medical Sciences Faculty. They choose the RWSS

Presidium, which is a major organizational and decisional unit. Every student, who thinks creatively and has an eagerness to work and wants to

have fun can belong to RWSS organization.

The main task of RWSS is promoting the interests of students. We

will try to help in solving problems and creating cultural and sporting life

by organizing various types of actions and events.
